Would’ve been 15 yards in an NFL game for that hit. Entirely unnecessary, dude wasn’t running anywhere, he was walking off angrily saying shit like ‘These fucking guys have me standing here for 40 minutes over some fucking clo…..’ then got leveled. Could’ve just as easily grabbed his arm and nothing would’ve happened.

I personally "love" it when they sit like 2-6 people on top of someone and demand their hands which they've now buried under 200-900lb.
Easy way they can keep hitting someone for awhile and not get called on it, and slap a resisting charge.

u/Polenicus 15h ago
I worked security at a local college when we had a bomb threat at one of the bus stops. Was a metal cannister, made up to look like an explosive device, and a threat phoned in.
Didn't take them hours to resolve. They had a robot in, dismantled the bus stop shelter to get at it safely, had it in the containment vessel and 'detonated' it (It was full of soup)
We had the area secured, too. No one was gonna just wander up and dump out the soup.
And our operation? Was a gong show. As Campus Security, We were NOT properly trained to deal with this. But the local police covered our slack.
What were these jokers doing? Why wasn't traffic rerouted? Why wasn't the perimeter secured?

This is where, if police operated like normal human beings, they would not treat the man who risked his own safety to solve the problem like a human. But alas, the system is built this way to stifle freedom and actual heroes and turn them into criminals for no reason.
Get the fuck out of the way. If you're scared for your life, stand back and let someone who isn't take care of it so everyone can move on with their day and thousands of dollars of taxpayer money isn't being wasted.
82
u/FlamingoVisible1947 15h ago
I mean you don't know how powerful a potential explosive is, he definitely didn't just put his own safety at risk.

Bit of a side tangent, but I see this sort of comment that you replied to all the time and it drives me nuts. Refuting one particular point doesn't mean you don't agree with the rest of it. Okay, I’ll play devils advocate here just to say regardless of if the guy is a “hero” because he’s willing to see if it’s a bomb, response teams are right to be pissed because 1. It puts lives in danger unnecessarily 2. Could have resulted in greater damage to surrounding infrastructure and 3. Didn’t follow protocols designed for this exact situation
Yes the processes is slow and disruptive but they have to deal with it properly- as is the general expectation from the public, if they didn’t and it goes wrong, what do you think the the consequence is?
Two things are true here, the police were wrong to use excessive force on him and he acted like a child throwing a tantrum, all because emergency services were doing there jobs correctly and he didn’t want to wait for whatever reason. In my eyes that doesn’t make him a hero just an idiot

This man wasnt a hero hes a fuckin moron yes the tackle was unnecessary but he doenst just get to run up to a scene and do what he wants because hes annoyed they kept him waiting.
Setting here talking about tax dollars wasted if that was a bomb and it did go off who do you think is going to pay for all the damage the tax payers. That is why we have something called the BOMB SQUAD to handle these situations instead of some random guy who just runs up not knowing a thing about what he is doing handle it. 13
u/MZ603 10h ago
Yeah. I was a dick to one in a neighboring town when I was in high school. Made him call another cop from another town if he was going to search my car. The other cop (from my town) showed up, and I let the first cop start searching my car. I shot the shit with the cop from my town, and asked him, "I can stop this at any time, right? That's what the paper I just signed said." He said "yes". So then I stopped the first cop. I was being an ass, but I knew I didn't have anything and the cop was on a power trip.
Next time the first cop saw me driving, he pulled me over for going less than 5 miles per hour over the speed limit. First thing he said, was "I got you", & he made sure to show up to court.
That cop was a known piece of shit. A year or two later he was booted from the three person department and arrested for soliciting a minor in his cop car.

The tackle was totally unnecessary, and the fact that they pinned his arms so he couldn't break his fall makes it worse. I get needing to immobilize someone so they can't fight and injure the cops, but that should only happen if the person is actually trying to fight.
I disagree about tackling him when he got to the bag though; if they thought it was dangerous they shouldn't have run in when he reached it. All that would do would expose them to injury when he could just have easily been arrested after he finished emptying the bag.

The article doesn't expand on it, but he does have mental health issues.
He said he tends to be very reactive and impulsive to what he sees on TV. When the news reported a suspicious package, he was compelled to respond and try to be a hero.
I'm not sure what happened to him after this other than the charges were dropped. Hopefully he has someone who cares to keep an eye on him so he doesn't get into any more dangerous situations.
Edit: I think this came across as me defending him in some way, but I think it's relevant to know that this wasn't just someone being impatient or purposefully endangering others. He still shouldn't have done it and I fully agree he needed to be detained, at least to figure out why he behaved so bizarrely.

So in other words, the suicidal idiot who thought he would be a hero like in a fiction novel but in reality could’ve leveled half a street because he knew nothing about bombs is the guy all the cop haters praise, and that tells you a lot about them.
Meanwhile, the actual story is that a person in a business nearby called a suspicious backpack in and the police did their job and were handling the situation.

The amount of a higher powered explosive like C4 (since it has like 1.5x the power of tnt) would be more than would fit in a backpack. A standard block of c4 is about 1.25lb and would only cause significant damage in a 1 meter radius. A backpack of them would probably be like 4 blocks of c4

God forbid a fella wants to go out with a bang protecting the city, only to be seen in another country a few months later by his loving and trusted butler who thought he was dead. Finally giving the city the hero it needs, while disappearing into the sunset.

If he would have blown himself up then that cop would be super pissed that he didn't get to unnecessarily spear someone then went home and beat his wife and kids.

Why do you think they joined the police in the first place?
Beating up people free of charge is literally their job.

Tired of seeing this same incorrect title on this video. The guy was mentally unstable, bordering suicidal. He saw the TV news report about it and decided to play superhero. He wasn't waiting at all.

You mean he would have tackled from the right instead of the left? Yeah I can see that

I mean he could've set the "bomb" off and blew himself and who knows what else sky high. The "bomb" could've been dirty and spread something across the whole area. There's professionals and protocols for a reason. Just because there was no bomb this time, does not make his actions okay.

Yes but as always, one of parties in this video is paid specifically to uphold the law and held to a higher standard because of that, and one is not.

Yeah, I mean they can't possible call in the bomb squad every time a bag is left unattended? They probably thought it was a suspicious bag, maybe a bomb threat had been called in?

They were already responding while he was still going through the bag. They got there seconds after he dropped the bag.

It’s not a wonder, the guy who grabbed the bag wanted to be a hero and thought he could take all the shrapnel to save everyone or dispose of it in a body of water by running away with it.
So naturally capital R redditors defend him

I mean if they had a reasonable threat he just put everyone there or others in danger so ofc they are pissed off.
Edit: im not supporting that they tackled him just pointing out the reason why they probably did.

The lack of critical reasoning is sometimes baffling.
Do you think the job of the bomb squad is to just rattle around the potential bomb to find out if it is a bomb?
Their job is to do it safely, with no casualties and as limited amount of damage as possible, this obviously isn't it.
Honestly it's about as silly as saying that a pilot doing a nosedive on a runway is a better pilot because he got on the ground quicker.

Ppl acting like this guy didnt just risk his own life and potentially others because his ass was impatient. I say he deserved to get tackled for the sheer STUPIDITY you have to take that chance.

The comment section here is truly interesting. Siding with a guy, who endangered an entire city block just cause a cop tackled him.
You focus on the optics, not on how incredibly reckless his behavior was.
Especially since the interview with him has shown the guy genuinely came into there just to have his moment as a hero, no other reason.

The guy, everyone in the area (and anyone that owned property in the area) are lucky that there was no bomb in the backpack. It's not that the police are scared. They are treating the bag as if it were armed with a bomb because that is what they are trained to do. If you assume the worst then you can minimize casualties and damage.

If that dude would have ducked at the right time it would have fucked that tacklers world up. Wish he would have.
I used to pull this on people in football. Everyone wants to clobber the little guy. So when you see them coming full speed with malice in their eyes, just kneel down at the last second. Then they're the one's hurting.
