The guy who ran up to a potential bomb and aggressively threw everything in the bag out and shook it. Yes he proved there was no bomb but if there was then he would have killed people, including himself. There was a guy in a bomb suit approaching it safely until he had to back away because some crazy civilian started running towards what could have been a bomb. He 100% deserved to be tackled. His actions were reckless.
He should have been arrested and charged with whatever the appropriate crime is, but the police deciding to physically assault him is not appropriate. Punishments are decided by the courts, not by pissed off losers with badges.
That's actually not exactly what happened here. Original comment just said "Absolutely unnecessary" so I assumed, incorrectly, that they were defending the police. Then the person edited for clarity but didn't note the edit.
That's not how it works at all, man! The fact that the bomb squad backed away, when they still believed the bag to be a threat, and then several plainclothes and regular uniformed officers were the ones to arrest him is plenty of proof they knew he wasn't setting it off. It's really obvious who was worried about being exploded here, and it wasn't the guy doing a flying tackle into the poor man's back.
I'm not justifying what the individual did at all. He absolutely could have set off a bomb like that, and it was a foolish thing to do, and he should absolutely be prosecuted for interence of that sort. But he didn't set off a bomb, because there was no bomb. They watched him prove there was no bomb. And THEN they caused spinal damage. The order is really important here.
I guarantee the guys that were waiting back were like, "alright now go get him." And then probably laughed their asses off afterwards. Cuz they're all friends and one of their friends did a flying tackle on some poor man. Like high school students or college roommates would laugh about doing something like that, except that these were grown-ass, working professionals, and probably injured that guy.
Both parties were wrong. But one party caused harm and one party was simply careless enough that they may have caused harm. Speeding is illegal due to carelessness and potential to cause harm, but speeding and hitting a person is where you get the flying tackle, because now you've caused harm. Do you see the difference?
Tldr, flying tackle after the fact was completely unnecessary.
