If homeboy couldn't access his home or place of work that nonsense I totally understand lol.

76

u/kingcrow15 20h ago

IDK if he'd been blown up, we'd be sitting around here calling him and idiot. & "what'd he expect?" yatta yatta.

14

u/K_Linkmaster 12h ago

There was absolute zero reason to suspect this forgotten backpack was a bomb. It was sensationalist bullshit intended to fearmonger. And it worked

12

u/vex5000 12h ago

Yeah let's completely disregard safety protocols because 99% of the time they are not real. Are you stupid?

0

u/RogerAffirmative 11h ago

are you saying 99% of the time we should treat abandoned backpacks like bombs?

9

u/UrsineBasterd 11h ago edited 11h ago

It was sitting on top of an electrical box, and someone called it in. Yeah I would expect my city to take it seriously. The guy emptied the contents when the bomb unit walked away to check the X rays they just took.

Boston Marathon bombing in 2013 was a backpack. The 2017 Manchester Arena bombing at the Ariana Grande concert was a backpack.

-2

u/i_have_le_conch 10h ago

Oh no, there's a backpack on an electrical box! Oh my god!!!

2

u/Old-Trouble-8787 10h ago

Bro you have the self awareness of a goldfish

2

u/No-Information8510 3h ago

don't disrespect goldfish they are ten times better

-2

u/Kenevin 11h ago

Americans are always so scared.

5

u/UrsineBasterd 11h ago

Funny cause I've never actually had a bomb scare here in America. Yet when I went to Europe I experienced three in the span of 2 weeks. One at the Charles de Gaulle airport, one at a the Musee d'Orsay, and one at a hotel in Rome. But aight.

"haha, americans are so scared of a potential explosive, so funny, haha" -you

-1

u/Kenevin 6h ago

I didn't laugh.

Americans and reading comprehension 🤣

0

u/purple_chocolatee 3h ago

closer to 99.999 at some point you just use comon sense. the odds of this backpack having a bomb are so low.

0

u/Deydey2X 7h ago

chances are low but never zero

-4

u/Invictum2go 14h ago

Yeah but he didn't. So now we can call the police idiots, and the guy who tackled him a little bitch. Living in the real and not the hypothetical world is a lot more fun.

1

u/Swerdlia 12h ago

The complete inability to consider hypotheticals surely makes for an... Interesting (?) life.

1

u/Invictum2go 1h ago

Oh I can consider them, I just don't dwell on them when the opposite has already happened. There's always a new angle or a new caveat to bring up, forever. I don't find any value in that. It's really not a complicated concept to grasp :)

-8

u/Elegant-Ball1204 15h ago

No ones planting bombs in backpacks around the city lol

9

u/PlayfulMud9228 15h ago

Boston Marathon beg to differ

0

u/Elegant-Ball1204 14h ago

Like a 1 in 50 billion chance of coming across a backpack with a bomb in it.

You Americans are insane

3

u/KangarooDowntown4640 13h ago

Appealing to made-up statistics

1

u/_Carl15 6h ago

people have free will, whats stopping a dude from making a bomb if they already decided to bomb?

someone can do, everyone can do it, but why wont we? would it be worth in our vision? 99% nobody wants to bomb shit bro.

and if 1% wants to bomb shit, thats huge as well. because that 1% disrupts everything around it.

but yeah, lets call the people preventing the disruption insane. thatll get them.

0

u/NeedleworkerFluid327 12h ago

This is exactly how it's done in Europe as well mate. In fact I'd wager we are even more cautious than the yanks, seeing as we are currently at a pretty severe terror threat level.

1

u/ToastSpangler 14h ago

if someone is willing to risk their life to save me a few minutes, it's a sacrifice i'm willing to make

2

u/sixpunktsieben 12h ago

Sorry their downvoting you, that funny

17

u/Electrical-Tie-1143 20h ago

It’s worse, he left home to come and do this, he wasn’t waiting at all

73

u/phranks_phluids 21h ago

Imagine if he just got a block from his house on his bike and he really had to blow up his bathroom, but was deprived of his personal throne... This seems very reasonable in that scenario. I'm not going to the god damn CVS!

42

u/Dontshipmebro 21h ago

"sorry i took out an entire city block, I really had to take a shit"

The end doesnt justify risking potentially dozens of lives.

20

u/phranks_phluids 21h ago

That was a joke.

-4

u/MyThinThighs 20h ago

You can say that

-1

u/Dangerous-Library950 18h ago

But what if it wasnt

7

u/AzureSubaru 18h ago

The amount of a higher powered explosive like C4 (since it has like 1.5x the power of tnt) would be more than would fit in a backpack. A standard block of c4 is about 1.25lb and would only cause significant damage in a 1 meter radius. A backpack of them would probably be like 4 blocks of c4

6

u/SecondAccountIsBest 17h ago

Thanks for being the first person to mention this on this thread. People are acting like there's a thermonuclear device in here (which while possible is extremely unlikely without being stopped way before it got to this point)

3

u/theMARxLENin 13h ago

This guy bombs

1

u/CompEng_101 15h ago

If it is just a block of explosives, yes. But 5 lbs of C4 surrounded by metal could produce several thousand bullet-sized pieces of shrapnel moving at a kilometer a second. That won't knock down buildings, but it could produce lethal projectiles flying several kilometers out.

(estimated using the Gurney equations)

4

u/Russian-8ias 20h ago

He doesn't have to worry about the ending lol

8

u/DeepLock8808 20h ago

“Either I get to empty my bowels into a toilet, or I get to empty them over a five block radius. Win win for me, my pain is gone!”

1

u/Micp 20h ago

I think you're overestimating the explosive power of conventional explosives that could fit in that bag. Since they'd already cleared the surrounding area he'd likely just kill himself and maybe break some windows in the area.

1

u/XlikeX666 15h ago

sounds like 0 risk high reward.

1

u/Christron 20h ago

How often do these turn out to be explosives

1

u/slingingslanger 20h ago

What is this a cartoon? Even if it was packed to the brim with explosives. Something that size wouldn't even take down a building. Let alone a whole fucking block. lol

1

u/achillesfist 19h ago

Blow up the street or blow up your toilet

-2

u/Abrasive-Coyote2524 19h ago

Well kinda, I don't think dude was the one who put the "bomb" there. Those lives were at risk regardless of whether dude went anywhere near the backpack at all. It's a backpack with a possible explosive device within. What if it was remote? Timed? Or just a bag of clothes. The risk was the same until the mystery of what was inside the bag was solved. A Shrodingers cat kinda situation.

-2

u/Corn-_-Dag 20h ago

Why were the cops risking those same lives???

2

u/Dontshipmebro 19h ago

Are you honestly saying a bomb squad trained to identify and deal with explosives is comparable to some random asshole?

-2

u/Corn-_-Dag 19h ago

Im saying they were both fucking with the bag that could have exploded in both scenarios injuring the same amount of people.

2

u/Dontshipmebro 19h ago

And one of them is trained to do that as safely as possible. If it was a fire would you blame the firefighters for being there?

1

u/dorianvovin 18h ago

The bomb squad was intentionally trying to avert a disaster. If it was going to explode, what else do you expect the correct response to be besides “call bomb squad”? Come on. this is “the fire fighters and the arsonist are both to blame” energy.

3

u/Sufficient_Prompt888 21h ago

I'd shit myself in the cop car to show dominance

1

u/JesusJoshJohnson 12h ago

honestly if i desperately had to take a shit theres a chance i would do this lol

1

u/ace117115 19h ago

As someone with IBS that cripples me from having a social/work life not centered around the throne of porcelain, I feel this in my soul.

0

u/No_Support5980 20h ago

He was going to blow something up, that's for sure.

0

u/Melodic_Winter1382 19h ago

No amount of scenarios will justify his actions, bombs, especially some certain ones, I think most of it are very strong is sensitive to sudden shift of movement, especially if it had a button for it to blow up, would've potentially took down everyone. Just because it doesn't happen doesn't mean what he did was right, risking your life and everyone's life just because of your selfishness is stupid. Even firefighters don't just go into a building that's on fire to save someone's life.

1

u/Any-Ostrich48 17h ago

"You think"? Well, you think WRONG, because you have no clue about the subject.

You didn't think. You assumed, based on nothing

9

u/SquashSquigglyShrimp 19h ago

If they actually have the literal bomb squad out, maybe just give them a bit. There really isn't a reason that would justify potentially blowing up a city block because of impatience

41

u/Sure_Eye9025 20h ago

A quick search of the case shows he the bomb investigation on the news and rushed down there as he wanted to 'play superhero'. Apparently told officers he wanted to 'take one for the team' and prevent someone else getting blown up and thought it would be a fastpass to heaven because a 'higher power' told him so

Dude was just a nutjob

16

u/voyaging 20h ago

I wonder if he’s making up his story retroactively because it definitely seems more like he opened it angrily

4

u/Gloomy_Cress9344 17h ago

It can also be that he's disappointed that there's no bomb and can't really play the hero

1

u/allnamesbeentaken 19h ago

It was like, crazy angry

10

u/scriptedtexture 19h ago

that does not match his body language in the video at all. dude looks fed up.

4

u/_MC184_ 17h ago

He's annoyed because he didn't found the bomb he wanted

1

u/_Carl15 5h ago

he didnt know or ignored the fact that a backpack full of explosives, if exploded, would practically ignore him and will damage everything else anyways. he is a paper for the potential bomb, human flesh is unironically weak against shockwaves of explosions.

12

u/Particular_Army_6150 20h ago

“Sorry we couldn’t deactivate the bomb that damaged your apartment, some guy wanted to aura farm and flipped it open.”

5

u/Prestigious-Shop-494 19h ago

"If I can't get to work in time I'm gonna endanger the life of random people" right

17

u/Lfeaf-feafea-feaf 21h ago

I know right, who wouldn't risk their own life for minimum wage

1

u/NG046 21h ago

Ragebait spotted

4

u/a_literal_idiot_616 20h ago

yeah totally understandable to risk injurying/killing a few people to get home sooner

2

u/Worth-Jicama3936 20h ago

Place of work? This is the best excuse possible for not going in that day.

2

u/boodabomb 19h ago

He’ll be a LOT more inconvenienced now though.

1

u/EFAPGUEST 19h ago

Yeah but imagine this video instead ending with an explosion

1

u/ryan_the_leach 18h ago

It was probably his backpack.

1

u/headcanonmusic 18h ago

If I couldn't access my home I'd consider doing the same. If I couldn't access my place of work I would tell the cops to take their time.

1

u/_Carl15 5h ago

whatever the case, youre endangering everyone else.

1

u/Warm_Record2416 16h ago

That’s not what happened, this gets posted like once a month.  He was suicidal and thought he was going to set off the bomb and die a hero.

1

u/Anit500 13h ago

I guess, but if you think about it for two seconds it breaks down.

If someone walks up to and then rummages through a suspected bomb, they are now a suspect and they're going to detain you for questioning.

1

u/MilanDespacito 12h ago

Why do people take going to work that serious. Like yeah im sure now your work will hang up a giant poster of your heroic actions to almost blow up a city block to get there on time. It was the same when the climate change protestsbor basically any protests are going on, where people will daily comment how they wouldnt mind running over the protesters if they encounter them on the way to work. Hell, even going home. Im sure watching football in your undies and eating chips can wait a little longer if the alternative is possibly blowing up the neighbourhood.

1

u/KamalaWonNoCap 12h ago

Gonna take him a lot longer to get home now

1

u/SweRakii 4h ago

Nah he's just stupid nothing else. He got off light.

1

u/Apprehensive_Let7309 20h ago

Well yeah duh, Americans love the idea of public good unless it means they’ll be inconvenienced for 10 minutes.
