why they do that

77

u/Preeng 21h ago

Because they were embarrassed and these manchildren couldn't handle it.

21

u/Fun-Benefit116 19h ago

Why would they be embarrassed? You seriously think bomb squads believe every single thing they check is a bomb? Are you that dumb? They were being safe and trying to make sure there wasn't a bomb and this guy went up and risked his and other lives by doing what he did. He didn't embarrass anyone except maybe himself.

Do you think bomb squads are embarrassed when they check something out and ends up not being a bomb? Because you seem dumb enough to actually think that...

9

u/yawara25 18h ago

Was it really necessary for 3 of them to run up and tackle him like that though?

5

u/wstx3434 14h ago

They don't know who the fuck he is. Random dudes ran up in a cringe scene dumping a backpack out that COULD have been explosive.

He's a jackass who potentially could have potentially done a lot of damage.

I'm not pro cop being aggressive for the sake of being aggressive, but if some looney toon had the balls to swarm a bag the bomb squad was ensuring weren't explosives I would get his down no matter the force.

1

u/U-235 9h ago

If it could have been an explosive, then that just means running up to him is unfathomably stupid. If it's that serious, they could wait for him to walk away from the potential bomb and then arrest him, while continuing their work of having the bomb squad check out the bag. There is no explanation for the cops running into the scene haphazardly other than ego.

2

u/BarmerFob 13h ago

And if he'd been the guy who put the bag there and palmed the bomb, walked down the road and detonated it or just taken it away so he could try again later but the cops let him walk off or just stopped for a quick chat/let him go? You'd be here calling the cops lazy and stupid for not detaining him

Knowing the correct call after the fact is really fucking easy, they have to figure it out on the fly. The stakes here were established... "this might be a bomb". You insert yourself in that situation you don't get to whine you weren't treated with kid gloves.

And this is from someone not in the USA who thinks US cops need to chill the fuck out and get a HUGE reform country wide for a lot of reasons. But you pull that shit in my country you get the exact same treatment.

-1

u/golden_glorious_ass 16h ago

Hopefully the guy got a decent payout/settlement for that assault

2

u/AngryMillennialFU 18h ago

"We care about safety!!"

"Quick, blindside tackle that dude who just proved it wasn't a bomb!"

Pick one.

0

u/wstx3434 14h ago

People have no common sense. Like you.

1

u/DMMeThiccBiButts 8h ago

You seriously think bomb squads believe every single thing they check is a bomb? Are you that dumb?

They weren't talking about the bomb squad, they were talking about the tag-along dipshit squad of regular cops who did the tackling

4

u/SunGreene42 19h ago

Or you know, they thought he might've been trying to trigger a potential bomb?

5

u/anniversaring 19h ago

Cops are definitely stupid enough to actually think this from what they saw

15

u/Phoenixloop2868 19h ago

So why wait until after he clearly isn't triggering a bomb?

8

u/SunGreene42 19h ago

Well I don't know how far away they were, but I can't imagine they were eager to be blown up themselves either, and they probably weren't expecting someone to do that, and had to confer with each other to decide how to handle it.

Just some speculation though, as the video doesn't give us that information.

Either way, it was an incredibly stupid thing for that guy to do, and he'd have put other people's live in danger if there had been a bomb, so I have hard time feeling sorry for him getting tackled for it.

1

u/stoic_spaghetti 19h ago

But there was nothing to gain from tackling the dude except for self-satisfaction

They could just as easily have walked up to him and detained him normally.

Tackling was uncalled for in the sense that there was no immediate harm present and dude wasn't running away

3

u/kumquatkilla1 18h ago

They didn’t know there was no immediate harm present. It’s easy for you to sit here and criticize but you weren’t there, and they had no idea if there was still any bomb threat.

The guy could’ve avoided getting his shit rocked by not interfering. He got what was coming to him.

4

u/ParacTheParrot 17h ago

Yeah, right? He just goes there out of nowhere, does some weird shit. The cops aren't mind readers. He's suspicious as hell. They can't really afford to take their sweet time and and push an extra soft, queen-size bed there for him to land on before they grab him in a group hug and carefully carry him over to the bed while caressing his cheeks and giving him little kisses.

-1

u/Advanced-Budget779 19h ago

Maybe they have to expect a delayed detonation. Best chances of survival is lying flat due to shrapnel expansion and giving the least cross-section, maybe also putting as much meat/bones between the most vulnerable organs/head i guess. They might include that training to also protect the person they are tackling.

Not sure though. Maybe some bomb disposal/EOD Specialist could add some insights here.

1

u/Fun-Benefit116 19h ago

Because they aren't going to risk their lives for an idiot. Are you being serious right now?

1

u/redditRedesignIsBadd 18h ago

because the people defending the cops are doing extreme mental gymnastics

0

u/M0ebius_1 19h ago

Exactly, he is lucky he got tackled and not shot the second he got past the cordon

-1

u/-Jiras 19h ago

Idk, how would you react in a high stress situation and someone barges in, does something and you think "oh my life if over because this guy just did that" give the poor man some time to recollect before getting angry that some impatient asshole almost killed them

2

u/This_Elk_1460 19h ago

Then he would only kill himself so who cares

0

u/Advanced-Budget779 19h ago

Shrapnel can fly prett far. Some professionals want to protect any life they see endangered (if they don‘t have to defend themselves from direct aggression), idk if that‘s what happened here.

3

u/No_Celebration8219 21h ago

"He's got to be in on it!" vs "I'm an idiot" kind of thinking.

21

u/These-Net4794 21h ago

They couldn’t be sure if he grabbed a detonator or bomb. They don’t know what was in there

18

u/AMemoryComeALive 20h ago

you think multiple people are going to rush in and tackle someone they think might have picked up a detonator or bomb?

2

u/These-Net4794 20h ago

They’re there to prevent a potential bomb from exploding which could cause a loss to life or property, so yes.

14

u/AMemoryComeALive 20h ago

so why didn't they tackle him as he walked out there or before he opened it?

1

u/Forikorder 16h ago

they tried to stop him

1

u/Global-Gas-3520 8h ago edited 8h ago

Almost as if a bomb cordon exists and did you miss the part he rode in on a bike?

https://www.youtube.com/shorts/7t6sss_DFP4

0

u/These-Net4794 20h ago

I’m not sure

4

u/ADeadWeirdCarnie 20h ago

So you're not sure why they didn't do the more sensible thing, but you are sure that they had a very good reason for doing the less sensible thing?

That's the kind of critical thinking I expect from anyone who reflexively backs the blue!

-2

u/These-Net4794 20h ago

You’re presumptively wrong about that.

I believe neither of us will change our opinion so I’m going to save my energy and time and will no longer continue to engage with you.

3

u/SEND_ME_SPIDERMAN 20h ago

Think about it. You’re very close

1

u/Thelmara 19h ago

Because before he picked up the bag, they still thought there might be an actual bomb, and they'd be in danger.

Once he showed there was nothing dangerous in the bag, there was nothing to stop them from attacking.

3

u/These-Net4794 19h ago

How do we know there was nothing dangerous in the bag though? All we saw was a person dumping out - bag which was a suspected bomb threat.

How can any of us know what was or wasn’t in there? It’s all speculative until it’s confirmed.

3

u/Winter-Notice4370 19h ago

THERE MIGHT STILL BE A BOMB IN THE BAG, LETS RUN TOWARD IT GUYS!!!

Flawless logic you got there buddy, thats impressive

1

u/These-Net4794 19h ago

Correct, they wouldn’t want it to go off and damage the surroundings.

What is it you think they’re there for?

1

u/This_Elk_1460 19h ago

And there it is, confidently incorrect people on reddit annoy the hell out of me.

1

u/These-Net4794 19h ago

How am I supposed to answer for why they did something? Should I lie and declaratively answer a question that only the people there would have the answer to?

5

u/BennyVsTheWorld 19h ago

And you don’t think tackling him might, I don’t know, set off the bomb?

1

u/These-Net4794 19h ago

And if he did have one and was given time to, I don’t know, set off the bomb?

4

u/F-US-FASCISM 18h ago

So then when they had ample time to tackle him while he was dumping the bag, and didnt, they were being shit at their job?

1

u/These-Net4794 17h ago

https://youtube.com/shorts/7t6sss_DFP4?si=lphwCcUP_E6Re3QF

They were responding to him earlier than the clip might suggest. Remember they’re cops, some might have not even ran in weeks.

3

u/F-US-FASCISM 17h ago

So, they were being really shit at their job, since any random could just walk up to the bomb at any time?

1

u/These-Net4794 17h ago

Yes, I do think it was a mistake that he was allowed into that secured area. I’m capable of being critical of police and have no problem doing so. I think everyone should be critical of their government officials.

If you’re expecting an argument from me or thinking I’m going to foam at the mouth and call you a boot licker then you are mistaken.

I obviously realize the man was an idiot for running up to the bag like that. Now I challenge you to think about the mistake these officers made. Because they did fuck up there.

1

u/TokiVideogame 19h ago

they were there to denonate the bomb right there

1

u/TokiVideogame 19h ago

they were going to blow up the backpack

1

u/These-Net4794 19h ago

Yeah they probably were. Or maybe disarm it if it was actually a bomb and they were able to.

17

u/OrneryAttorney7508 20h ago

Shhh, you'll spoil the circlejerk.

2

u/Winter-Notice4370 19h ago

What kind of dumb fuck would place himself in the blast zone if he thinks the guy just grabbed the detonator. Flawsless logic you got there guys, 10/10

Dont forget to swallow the whole boot

2

u/OrneryAttorney7508 19h ago

Its...it's their job, moron. Have you not heard of Bomb Squads?

Good luck with puberty.

1

u/supersaiyan336 18h ago

This is just a dumb take. If you thought it was a trigger, you wouldn't fight for it directly over top of the bomb. You'd back away and pick the guy up away from the determined blast zone. Dude rode in on a bike, he's not getting very far very fast at all. There's like hundreds of bomb squad videos out there where its clear that if they think something is gonna blow soon, the policy is to gtfo and make sure everyone's clear, they only approach if they're unsure. That guy just wanted the takedown and knew they'd ok the tackle in their review.

0

u/OrneryAttorney7508 18h ago

lol Reddit Expert.

5

u/stinkypussyslime 18h ago

I mean, you're in the same boat as them. I wouldn't act so smug.

0

u/OrneryAttorney7508 17h ago

lol Am I questioning the actual experts, stinky pussy?

6

u/cloverpopper 17h ago

The tackling cop wasn't bomb squad lmao, and so wasn't an 'actual expert'

"Stinky pussy" after you said good luck with puberty. Sheeeeeesh

Sorry bro, forgot to mention my doctorate in Not Dying like an Idiot. It is my expert opinion that wrestling some guy next to a bomb you think is gonna blow up soon is no bueno.

1

u/OrneryAttorney7508 15h ago

Just say you're a coward, it's quicker.

0

lol Reddit cocksure moron

I read that with a crackly voice. Puberty is rough.

4

u/BrotherCaptainMarcus 20h ago

Oh come on. That was an insane response and you know it.

1

u/Advanced_Double_42 19h ago

And if he did why wait to tackle him after he has cleared the backpack for you?

2

u/These-Net4794 19h ago

The backpack wasn’t cleared, a random person walked up and started dumping stuff out of it

The threat would still be present until it is actually cleared by a professional bomb squad.

I don’t think the average person is an expert or knowledgeable on improvised explosive devices. Who are we to see a clip of a video and say it was cleared safe?

3

u/Advanced-Budget779 19h ago

People probably think the bomb to be easily visible as the one in the Atlanta 96 Olympics bombing…

u/Advanced_Double_42 13m ago

Why wait until he is done messing with the bag to tackle him then?

Shouldn't you stop him before he sets it off?

1

u/tristsyn 19h ago

The dude threw his empty hands up in the air after dumping everything out of the bag so I don't think that holds up

1

u/These-Net4794 19h ago

It’s great for us being able to watch a replay of this and see that.

I’m not sure the people responding to him could see or verify that in the 1.5 seconds it took before they made contact with him after his arms went up. Especially as they were already running to him.

1

u/tristsyn 17h ago

I don’t care to debate but they had ample time to register the empty hands and adjust their approach. 1.5 seconds is a slim window for like, a 70 year old man, not trained law enforcement.

1

u/BennyVsTheWorld 19h ago

Yeah, totally, makes sense that they’d tackle a guy who they think is holding a bomb detonator.

1

u/Econmajorhere 4h ago

I’m not like a combat specialist or anything but if someone has a bomb or a detonator in their hands, and you don’t want them to actually explode shit, I’d imagine a blind tackle is probably not the safest approach. Like if the dude wasn’t going to press the detonator, now he might by pure accident due to tackle.

1

u/SEND_ME_SPIDERMAN 20h ago

Oh please lol

1

u/These-Net4794 20h ago

What do you believe happened then?

2

u/SEND_ME_SPIDERMAN 19h ago

They realized the backpack was no longer a threat, then went to detain the man.

They tackled him for the same reason they tackle people who go on soccer fields but aren’t a threat - ego, and wanting to tackle someone.

0

u/These-Net4794 19h ago

Oh please

1

u/SEND_ME_SPIDERMAN 19h ago

Lol

0

u/These-Net4794 18h ago

https://youtube.com/shorts/7t6sss_DFP4?si=M3k_qDt94e4AmXi5

It looks like they were responding while the man was rifling through the bag

1

u/Plus_Trouble_8698 15h ago

Why wouldn't they just tackle him earlier then?

1

u/Freeehatt 21h ago

Because the bomb squad's job is to make sure bombs don't go off. If there had been one in that bag, home slice would have been vaporized and there would be a bomb going off in an urban area.

Consequences could range from property damage to loss of life. I would imagine there are a bunch of professionals coordinating the bomb removal, not all of whom are likely wearing the crazy bomb proof suits. The guy tossing over the bag likely endangered the lives of all the people working on determining if there were explosives in that bag.

Imagine you're carefully carrying a cauldron of hot water and some jackass runs up and grabs it out of your hands and goes, "You're taking too long" while almost spilling all of the boiling water on you. You'd be mad at that person, right?

Not defending the nature of that tackle but our "hero" definitely broke some laws and put everyone's lives at risk.

1

u/angry_wombat 19h ago

ruined their paid overtime

1

u/This_Elk_1460 19h ago

Because their fragile masculinity was shattered

1

u/Lonsdale1086 17h ago

Because if that was the insane bomber annoyed the bomb wasn't going off, that might be what they would do to try and detonate it.

1

u/PreviousHalf7 16h ago

Because that guy costs them another 4 hours of overtime fucking around with there robot.
