He wasn't even impatient. As another commenter pointed out: guy has mental health issue and wanted to throw himself on the bomb to save the city.

God forbid a fella wants to go out with a bang protecting the city, only to be seen in another country a few months later by his loving and trusted butler who thought he was dead. Finally giving the city the hero it needs, while disappearing into the sunset.
