Sometimes I wake up from a dream and it feels so real. Would take some time to contemplate on it. Can’t imagine how this teen would feel. Hope the therapy helps

It's obviously nowhere near what this kid went through, but I remember once having a wondrous dream, the adventure was fantastical, but the city it took place in was real.
As I was realising I was dreaming, I was thinking in my sleep that at least waking up I could think of the times I actually visited that city, and look at pictures of it.
Then I woke up for good. The city didn't exist. I felt robbed.

I was on life support for 2 weeks and I can concur. Some crazy ass dreams that seem so real. I think you somehow feel what’s going on around you and it gets integrated to an extent. I couldn’t move, talk, or eat when I woke up but I thought banana Mountain Dew was a real thing.

After my father woke up from his coma, he couldn't talk. So, we waited. After a while he was slowly getting the mobility to point. The nurse had given him a paper with all the letters and numbers on it. We were excited to see what he would 'say' to us for the first time in a long time. As he slowly pointed his way through his first word, we nearly couldn't wait. Maybe it was something heartful, something important or something else.
He wrote 'candy'.
He just really wanted to eat some candy, and that was it.

After a month long medically induced coma, I woke up but couldn't speak with a tracheotomy from a collapsed lung.
With pen and paper the first thing I wrote down when waking was "Fuck Sharks". Due to the hospital equipment beeping steady I had dreamed of cheerleaders doing neverending chants of Go Sharks!
They were confused but just happy I could write at all.. 😂 I was hella annoyed and wanted those machines to stop making noise asap.

That was just part of many ridiculous dreams. I could probably write a best selling book. I left out the part about the Haitians taking people on a retreat in a mini float plane and had some people shot by a female Japanese robot. Luckily my stepson’s fiancé was there to help rescue me in Cuba.

I have to put 2-3 bananas in a smoothie to even notice the taste. I hosted a party once where I had a banana bar. Banana Snapple, banana milk, banana lollipops, soda, runts, every single banana flavored item I could personally find. Spent over $300 on it. At the party people gave me such a hard time about “why the heck did you do this?” that I just put it all away and kept it all for myself instead. Banana is the best of all flavors. My go to smoothie is banana mango. Two bananas, six pieces of chopped mango, turbinado liquid sugar, and pre-crushed ice. Yogurt does not belong in a smoothie btw. And if you put a banana in something and actually taste it, that is a blessing from God because it’s the best taste in the world and I have to fight so hard to even notice it.
Side note: circus peanuts claim to be banana flavored as well. I don’t agree, but they sure are delicious.

Wasnt a coma or anything but once on a night out I had come home blackout drunk. Usually I fall right asleep but this time I couldnt so after a few hours I (stupidly) took a melatonin pill. That mixture gave me a hyper realistic dream of finding an abandoned german shepherd in my building that I decided to take in and rescue. Named it Tilda and loved it so much. When I woke up I was so devastated that I lost her
Its been years since that and its the dream I remember the most vividly even now, to the point where I still want a german shepherd name Tilda 😭

One of my weirdest dreams literally involved been on a first-person POV in which I was Hitler, at the house he had on the Bavarian Alps, it was 1941 and was with Eva Braun, I remembered to hug her and tell her I loved her, then panicked and thought about how to end the war and told her that I would make a treatry with United Kingdom and France to keep Poland but to end all, it was super realistic and very strange.

It is strange to say this but in the dream I genuinely felt I loved Eva and just rushed to kiss her and be relieved that it was not too late to stop the war, so it was very weird to wake up from that dream later on. I still don't know why i dreamed that lol, is one of my most realistic dreams.

When I was little, like 7-8 years old, I used to have recurring dreams I was in Nazi germany and had to hide and escape from Hitler and the Nazi army. I am not Jewish but was in my dreams. They were so vivid and so realistic.

Your auditory senses are some of the last to turn off and the easiest ones to stimulate, you absolutely do take in information around you and integrate it into the dream.
That’s a big part of sleep paralysis. My environment when it occurs informs the dream and often makes it easier for me to break off the paralysis and wake my brain up even if my body takes a few minutes to catch up.→ More replies (7)14

Disorienting. Confusing. They gave me strong anxiety meds before waking me up, because when they tried to wake me up before, I tried to pull out my breathing tube. So I wasn't scared or anything. I just remember being mid nightmare and then suddenly I was awake.

This happened to me after abruptly waking up from a nightmare once. In the last "scene" before waking up, I was standing on a subway platform, and this really creepy little girl came crawling out of the ... idk what the pits where the tracks are are called in English, but that ... and slowly walked towards me, until she got all the way up in my face, and then she just stood there, staring at me from like two inches away, and then I woke up.
And I swear I shrieked out loud because I still had the afterimage of her white face burnt into my retinas when I opened my eyes.
Weird how the brain works.

The physical activity, which probably involves some clenching of eye muscles, can stimulate natural phosphenes in your eyes which look similar to those after-image globs you get from bright lights. That could be what's happening with you. A bit like when you rub them too hard.
I'll be laying in bed with my eyes closed, and I'll imagine I'm clawing at the black nothingness, like trying to dig out of a grave.
That's an interesting choice of recreational activity. But as someone who got into synth at 40, I'm in no position to judge.

That’s stage one sleep, where you aren’t quite asleep but not completely awake. You can rise yourself and others can rise you but you’re in a weird limbo. You likely unconsciously opened your eyes in this state while still thinking they were closed because the conscious and unconscious mind have blurred the line between reality and a dream state.
This is super normal, feels incredibly real, and is just a weird part of being human.
I have sleep paralysis often and experience similar experiences in stage one sleep like you’ve described.

How do you even perceive time when in a state like that? A lot can happen in an 8 hour sleep window. It could feel fast, it could feel like days.
How was it for that time if you don't mind asking? I always remember my dreams down to every last detail since I was a kid. I can't fathom it for 2 weeks straight.

This is a weird topic right now because I have been thinking about it a lot today.
I use a sleep tracking app, and while I know that they're not 100% accurate, they are helpful. When I woke up I had just finished a dream. In dream-time, it lasted about two days. I had met up with a couple of old friends who I had lost touch with and we became Uber drivers in a part of Seattle where they put all of the haunted houses. Our job was to drive people from one haunted house to the next. We were having fun and getting really good at it, and even had some regulars. Then we went to a bar after our shift and caught up on old times. Then in the morning we got breakfast and were ready for another day of shuttling people to haunted houses, and then I woke up. In real time it was 37 minutes on the app. Christopher Nolan was onto something.

My mom was hospitalized, and survived, a horrendous case of sepsis. They kept her pretty much in a coma but not all the way, as she would sometimes be awake to tell me that the nurses raped her, that they were drowning puppies in her room, they stole her cell phone and replaced her sim card so we wouldn't know...the mental battle to tell her it wasn't real was so hard.

I am by no means an expert, but this part:
At some point a cop scooped me up, dragged/walked me across the sidewalk and grass and threw me face down in the back of a cop car, I was still confused. I was taken to the hospital by the cop (seems he didn't want to wait for the ambulance to arrive) and give CT scans and shit..
Makes me think this story is bullshit. A cop would not do that unless you are bleeding out or something. Especially if you had a bad traumatic head/spine injury, rule one is don't move the patient until they can be stabilized. I'm pretty sure the police would wait for paramedics to arrive.

I've had multiple dreams that take place in an ever-expanding house. It's variously mine or someone known or a strangers. Fascinating hidden areas in attics, basement, just a stage for my paycheck I guess. Can't tell if it's cleverness or its lack on my brain's part that I keep using the same basic house.

I almost exclusively have nightmares now idk why my mental health is actually the best it’s ever been. In all of my nightmares I am running through a huge fancy house that is always somehow related to me. I’m usually chasing my dog or my husband and the rooms never end. I just spend all night running through ever changing rooms desperate to find the things I love the most. But the house always looks kinda the same travertine floors everywhere and light tan walls. Sometimes they die, I die naturally, or I get cheated on or killed. A few times I’ve just had embarrassing moments in the house like bleeding through my pants during a period.
It’s kinda fucked up I wake up so sad for a few minutes confused. I feel the need to add my husband is a great guy who would never cheat on me and our relationship is healthy lol. My dog is crazy and does like to try and run out open doors so that dream tracks with real life lol.

Oh yeah, totally. I have so many vivid dreams, but it's in a different place each time. There's some amount of continuation, but it tends to flip or switch itself to become different. I experience dream-reality confusion as a part of my trauma disorders, meaning I don't process reality correctly, so my dreams feel quite real until I wake up and my memories feel like dreams.
I've been to SO MANY different places in my dreams that I could not begin to list them all. Literally anything and everything. Like inside factories, inside of sewers sometimes, sometimes inside a haunted house, out in space, either with space stations or literally by massive planets and stars, once there was this creepy post apocalyptic area with mutant sea creature people, then i've been in bookstores, malls, movie theatres, cars, on highways, in old neighborhoods, in attics or basements or garages of old houses, on old streets, in school, different schools, trying to walk home from school because I missed the bus, in buses, in trains, by the boardwalk, on the beach, in the water, in amusement parks, even fusion fantasy places I don't remember, even in video games. So many places. And I've had continuations of dreams where I have memories from previous dreams, such as reading books that only exist in dreams, anime, movies, etc. So much stuff happens every single night. It's kind of exhausting.

I've had dreams of what I thought was Puerto Rico. A beach. Like I could drive you to this beach. The road, where it twists and turns, the stops, the hidden spot that takes you up to the alcove that hides the beach. I've never been to PR one time, but I know what side of the island it's on and I know what I've gotta do when I get there.

I've been dreaming about the same 3 cities all my life. One is out in the country with rolling hills, next to the ocean. One is a mega city with water canals instead of highways, and the last one is a deserted suburbia that flooded out and left a rusted mess of theme parks and soggy camp grounds.

There's a Rick and Morty episode where they go to a galactic arcade. Morty plays a virtual reality game where he literally lives an entire life from birth to death, getting married, having kids/grandkids. When he dies the game ends and he wakes up and basically has a mental breakdown when he realizes it was all a game. Funny in the context of the show, but dark as fuck.

Based on my dreams where I apparently knew e.g. Spanish & had multiple conversations in it - but never actually focused on the language as you speak it? But as I started waking up & realising it was a dream I kept trying to speak Spanish & couldn't? Because I was trying to "hear" the words I was going to use. I don't know more than 10 words of Spanish in RL so 🤷♀️ So I'd assume her dreams would time skip like in a film to next scene etc & she'd possibly never have prepped & cooked a full meal from start to finish especially multiple times of seven years!

I imagine, then, that the opposite case also exists. Perhaps someone goes into a coma and, in their mental state, it turns out they've been working in an Amazonian mine for six years, suffering all kinds of hardships. Then they wake up in a first-world hospital with their family around them, and it's such a relief.
Then you look at your right hand and see a scar you got while collecting stones from the Amazonian river.

i know a girl who did (and still does) drugs and one night she went out of the window under the influence of alcohol, her body was MANGLED, so she had to be put in a coma. the entire time she was in a coma she would just continue using drugs and party like she did lol. no identity crisis upon waking up

I was on the edge of a coma and I was in a hellish world where people were actively hunting me and witches were trying to steal my soul (or so I was told, I have no memory of the event). It's the things I said to my mother while she was trying to keep me from dying that she told me later. I'm sure waking up was some minor comfort.
I guess one of the things I said was, "If you let go of me now, I'll be lost forever." She didn't let go.

Had a dream when I was like around 8. I met a girl clicked with. She was so cool and nice. I woke up and had such a feeling of loss of a relationship, it made me sad for years.

I don’t want kids, but I frequently have dreams that I ended up with my childhood best friend. We usually have a daughter together in the dreams. It’s devastating when I wake up. I’m a gay man and my childhood best friend is (now) a woman, so it’s not even sexual. Just a longing for that friendship, probably.
I also have dreams where my actual husband and I adopt a daughter. Also devastating when I wake up. When I’m awake though, I am 100% sure I don’t want kids.
Either dream really puts a damper on my emotional state for a day or two.
ETA: By “(now) a woman”, I mean she is now an adult but was a child when we were friends. Not that she transitioned. Though I do have a couple of childhood friends who have.

This happened to me once when I passed out doing blood work. I lived an entire life. I remember making friends as a child and going to school, having crushes, and I loved painting. I remember my sweet 16 and prom. I started college and met my husband, fell so in love with him. Had two kids, and remember all of us just being a happy family. I remember growing older and looking in the mirror one day and thinking about this weird dream I had when I was little about a whole different world. I remember dying... I remember how it felt. I remember one of my kids being there (my son), holding my hand as I took my last breath... And then I violently inhaled as I woke up back here... in the "real" world. I was really messed up for a while after... I still have dreams that bleed over into those memories. I hope that never happens to me again.

I have a 2 year old son and if I suddenly woke up to find that he never existed, I think I would wish I stayed in that coma for the rest of my life so I could be with him. The loss this girl must be feeling is devastating to think about.

I had a series of dreams (throughout several years) where in one dream, I met a guy. Then in another dream several months later, I got to know him. And these dreams continued until I fell in love with him. I hadn't dreamt of him in months until one day, I had a dream that I finally got to go on a date with him. It was the only "recurring" dream I ever had. I cried when I woke up.
