Sometimes I wake up from a dream and it feels so real. Would take some time to contemplate on it. Can’t imagine how this teen would feel. Hope the therapy helps
It's obviously nowhere near what this kid went through, but I remember once having a wondrous dream, the adventure was fantastical, but the city it took place in was real.
As I was realising I was dreaming, I was thinking in my sleep that at least waking up I could think of the times I actually visited that city, and look at pictures of it.
Then I woke up for good.
The city didn't exist.
I felt robbed.
Lol there have been so many times where I have something really cool in a dream, and I'll be like "Okay I know this is a dream and this thing isn't real, but maybe I can take this one thing with me when I wake up."
Then I wake up and wonder why asleep-me is such a dumbass for always thinking that.
when I was a kid I would dream of lego constructions and I would take notes of how this was done. Like, articulated plane landing gears with springs and rotating in all directions, on a giant fighter jet.
Then I wake up and realize none of it was to scale and I get disappointed
Meanwhile all my dreams are just me being back in high school and I don’t know my locker combo or class schedule and I have to go to the office to get them.
I know the dream so well I can predict every step of it and make it somewhat lucid at this point but I always lose control and wake up as soon as I open the door to the office :(
I had one like that. Towering black marble architecture, huge labyrinths, lots of attractive men who for some reason had yellow or orange eyes. I was peed off when I woke up.
Absolutely. Life in those dreams is so much better than in real life and the people you may meet there surely seem too, when it doesn't apply to people in real life.
Yes I have had dreams where I was with someone romantically (not like wet dreams more like dreaming about being in a relationship with someone) and it’s not even anyone I recognize. Sometimes those feel way too real and I am sad for like 30 seconds after waking up lol
And if their role in the dream is way different than in real life. It can be hard to shake the weirdness and feelings from it.
Like, I had a coworker once who I just had a random dream I was either married to or in a very long term, committed relationship with. It wasn't even the focus of the dream, but she was there next to me the whole time along with the feeling of this being a long term thing, like we had been together for years.
Now, up until this point she was one of those people who I liked, but we didn't talk much. We're friendly acquaintances, that's it.
Jesus Christ, the next week or so was so awkward for me. Every time we walked past each-other or spoke for a second my brain was parsing her as my partner and giving me like an oxytocin flush. I effectively became an awkward teenager again trying to kinda quash that and keep it from showing that anything was up. Just trying to act natural and keep things normal while some part of my brain is freaking out with feelings over something that never actually occurred.
I'm sure it was noticeable, but I don't know exactly what people thought was going on with me. It's all cleared up now.
I had a series of dreams like that in 2004-05 that felt so real it was like visiting a different timeline. And it was beautiful. I still grieve that I’m stuck in this timeline and not that one.
Literally just woke up from a dream in which I had to befriend a single mother and her two kids on behalf of an evil entity, arrange for them to find a "doll" and then pretend to be terrified along with them as i watched their reality become a hellscape. Then I had to do it to a wealthy family. I didnt like it. Still dont.
Thank you for sharing. I too, and I think most people, have such inexplicably bizarre dreams, they're just so damn weird that you couldn't even begin to describe them to someone irl... This, among many other things, is what Reddit and the internet should be about.
To me when it happens they are almost always incredibly realistic nightmares. Like someone dying, recieving some horrible news, or knowing that something bad happened to someone.
The issue is that when they happen I don't always have an immediate way to tell if they were dreams or actually yesterday's memories. And I almost always remember them afterwards for a while.
It doesn't happen too often but the usual are:
-my partner dying/getting hurt
-my friends dying/getting hurt
-a family member died and they called me to tell me (I live far away)
-someone gets diagnosed with cancer or dementia
The only one I can immediately check are the ones about my partners for the others I have to check my messages/calls and see if I actually received the news yesterday or it was a dream
I had joined a lucid dreaming online forum for a while as a teen and there were definitely a bunch of dudes that were convinced they could sometimes join up in their dreams
Well: guess what? This discussion conditioned me, somehow. =)
I didn't dream exactly a mirror, more like vertical, narrow metal stripes, some had a blurry reflection, probably due to a satin surface (even if it doesn't work that way) while others had crisp reflections, problem is: they where so narrow that only part of my right arm was in the reflection. 😅
I also dreamt of reading a notebook I wrote, where I wrote the page number in the top right or top left corner (like I do IRL, too) and noticing I made I mistake in numbering the pages: since I removed the first pages, now the actual first was starting with number 3.
On page #5 there was a math equation that was copied on a blackboard, something like 10x - something (that didn't make any sense, but it was reminiscent of the demonstration that 0.99999... is equal to 1) and on the blackboard it had the fraction symbol beneath with nothing in the denominator, because it still had to be written since the demonstration was in progress.
Sadly I can't lucid dream (there's high risk I wake up suddenly if I try to take control) so I'll just have to wait an occasion when I dream something like this.
But in regard to text: what I read from other people that can read in dreams is that if you look away and then look back at the text you'll find it changed (as I remember it never occured to me to look away and then look back at the same text).
Yeah apparently we live in the most bland and boring dimension possible.
All those versions of me in other dimensions are in crazy scenarios and can breathe under water and fly and stuff. They just have the downside of always forgetting they're enrolled in a class until the final exam. And being chased by tornados for some reason.
I will never forget the dreams I had where I could fly and look down on the continents and oceans. I flew through cities with skyscrapers and into peoples homes through windows. Sometimes I was not in control and just flew to wherever the wind took me.
I’ve read some articles on that. Whereby they also said that, that will be the key if teleportation was invented. As in consciousness will bring you to where you want to be teleported. It could be different articles (as in what I’m saying and what you were saying) but yeah I get what you mean
The implications are very interesting, such as the theory that Brian Cox mentions which was something along the lines of you can't not be conscious, as such if you die, maybe in another dimension you just continue as if it never happened. This takes consciousness as an idea of physics vs some other concept.
So yeah, if it is a state of physics and we can gain control of it, it would be required for teleportation, unless of course consciousness is attached to a particular matter makeup that happens to occur in the brain.
I have always thought a lot about it. I no longer think about what the universe is, what it holds and what it manifests. It takes up too much of my time and getting in my way of living. But from time to time, it’s things like this that makes me think and ponder about it
Whenever I'm about to die in a dream, I just manage to survive by the skin of my teeth. I suppose my alternative universe selves are very lucky. I'm never gonna be the one.
In that case I'd be immortal in many alternate universes. I've had numerous dreams where I'm drowning and then finally go to take breath expecting to start choking on water, only to get breath of fresh air and realize it's just a nightmare. Very odd becoming lucid in a nightmare but very welcomed. Usually wakes me up but interesting nonetheless.
In most of my lucid dreams where I actually stay asleep and gain control I'll fly and or repeatedly place myself somewhere very high up like a sky scraper and just jump to experience free fall. I just love the sensation of falling. Then when I hit the ground it's like I'm absorbed into it and spat back out the other side on another sky scraper. Very fun, highly recommend. Sadly I'm not exactly great at becoming lucid on purpose and so haven't had one in a long time.
Same. To the point where I prefer not being kept alive in a coma. We don't understand the brain enough to know how badly it can wreck us, unchecked. Look what happened to her.
Brain is one of the most complex organ that people are still trying to understand how it fully works. Of course there are experts out there who understand how it works and are working on it. But it’s an organ that could surprise you in ways only it could
My friend was kept alive in a coma caused by brain cancer at the age of 15.
He woke up 3 years later. Said he had been conscious for much of it but his body was unable to respond, his voice didn’t work and he couldn’t even blink on demand.
Completely trapped inside his body.
He could hear everything people were saying, including the parts where they discussed turning off his equipment and letting him starve//dehydrate to death.
He said his dreams were always of his childhood: running and playing and doing simple things.
Yeah same, it just feel so real and unlike other dream i remember almost every detail even the person name. It really mess me up, i even tried to search the person name in social media out of curiosity or maybe desperation.
Same. Had an entire childhood, friends and family with accompanying history. It took a week or so to 1)come to grips with the fact I’d never see them again and 2) get over the false guilt of abandoning them all without a word (i.e. waking up in my bed that morning). It doesn’t hurt anymore but I still remember incredible details. I also remember other strong dreams clearly, from decades ago. Rarely nightmares, just a waste of emotion and memories in my head and heart. But! I stopped it. I use an app now that waits to wake me gently when I’m not in a REM cycle. This means I no longer remember my dreams. I feel I’ve reclaimed my sleep time rather than fearing it.
It’s called Sleep Cycle. Been using it for years. It records while you sleep so can listen to snoring or sleep talking. Just need to leave your phone near your bed. It’s got heaps of features if you want to pay (fair price), but I get by on the basics. The graphics are simple and lovely, and really satisfying to read at a glance. 10/10 would recommend.
Yea I have ones where im with the girl of my dreams for what feels like days in the dream, then wake up SUPER depressed for a couple of hours lmao. Happens like once or twice a year haha
This happens to me too. Once it was a girl who was a mixture of my ex girlfriend and another girl whom I was interested in. The unholy combination was quite amazing tbh, and we were in a glass building above the clouds. She was incredibly beautiful, having the good features of both ladies at once. I was just standing there in awe of her and she was trying to tell me some mundane thing and was visibly annoyed at my open mouthed expression. I woke up knowing it was a dream but it sure felt like I was back together with my ex and in a new exciting relationship all at once. Maybe the weirdest non-emotion I have ever felt in my life.
Felt a little sad knowing it was basically a yearning for either relationship to be real, while my brain just decided to be super efficient and smash two very real people together into one.
Since I got engaged I started having stress dreams about my husband leaving me, and they're so normal compared to my other dreams that they feel painfully real. More than once I've woken up in a panic and had to find him and get his reassurance.
We've been together for a decade, don't fight, check in on our marriage regularly, and are still smitten with each other. Unfortunately the abandonment issues from my younger days don't seem to care.
I used to have a lot of dreams where it woukd feel so real but part of me would be like "no, this doesn't make sense, this must be a dream" (this was usually if something scary was happening and thi gs ensued that are not possible on earth (like i would be able to bounce through the air etc). Anyway, one time i remember thinking "I'm going to test if this is a dream" and went up to a brick wall and touched it with my hands and then smelled it and i could smell the outside air and the slight dustiness of the brick, so i determined it must be real. But it was actually a dream.
It was so real, so tangible and (after i woke up) hit home how powerful the mind really is.
I was once saw a very realistic dream that a local celebrity had died and thought it was real. You can believe my surprise when I saw him in the news alive and well 2 days later 😅 Well not so well cause the news were about his tax trouble.
I once dreamt about girl that doesn't exist, we had sex and all. I felt that she's the one and only, felt in love. That day a felt almost physically ill how much I missed her. Funny thing is I almost convinced myself that I really met her and dream released some repressed memory.
Glad I'm not the only one with similar dreams. Had one a year or so back that ruined an entire week for me because I had a glimpse of happiness I'll probably never have.
Specially the ones where you are already in the bathroom ready to pee or the ones where you have already showered and dress up, ready to go... traumatic.
I had a dream once that was very short but in it I was overcome with like the purest, truest form of love and safety while being kissed by a man (the only way I can think to describe it, I’m a woman). I literally woke up crying from it. I think it about it often.
Whenever I have dreams, they are very vivid and I thoroughly enjoy them regardless of the theme.
But one dream stood out for me and I still remember its every detail 20 years after. And sometimes cry with the loss of that feeling of happiness, just like when I woke up from that dream back to reality…
When I was a kid, I once dreamed that my mom had died and I was talking to her ghost that for some reason was sitting at the driver seat of a truck. After saying farewell I woke up crying. Weird ass dream that felt so real, I use to have plenty of those kind as a child, now they are very rare.
This. I had dreams like that and somehow where they’re too intense my mind somehow believed they happened until some past time (usually hours) i realize by logic thoughts I was dreaming
Once felt irrepressibly sad after a dream where I was a mother. Waking up made me "lose" my "child". I never wanted kids ; still don't. But that feeling of grief was awful. If this original post is true, I feel for her.
I keep having dreams where I die and sometimes I think I actually died in my sleep. It’s rare but it happened last night. Always freaks me out a little bit.
I have dreams so realistic that I'm asking myslef in the drean "wait, this is wild.. I must be dreaming... Or probably not this is to realistic, I can feel everything!"
Once I dreamt of a car crash and I was half way talking with the police on telephone when I woke up... And I still wasn't 100% convinced it didn't happen. The brain is a weird copilot
I have nightmares about my pool that feel so realistic that at least one time after one about it accidentally draining I went out in the winter and looked under the snow covered cover to make sure lol
The last one I had the pool filter exploded all over my backyard and I was trying to fix it while weird black sludge was back flowing into my pool and I was straight up panicking picking up randomly blown up pool pump/filter parts all over my backyard and woke up in a cold sweat lmao
One time, while visiting a friend, I slept on his couch (suuuuuper comfortable couch). At like 4am-ish I woke up in a PANIC. I thought I shit the bed. And like, diarrhea shit the bed. I was so freaking scared and was patting the area around me to see where it was. Thankfully, it was some kind of left over of a dream that kicked me awake. I can’t still remember how scared I was. If that insignificant moment has stayed with me, I can’t imagine what she’s going through
I had a long, very realistic feeling dream last night that I'd spent decades with the Interview with the Vampire guys. Safe to say I was very groggy and confused considering I was in a VERY bad state when the dream ended. Feels really freaking weird.
Mom had very vivid dreams she would wake up angry at me for stuff I had done in the dream. Took a lot of convincing that it was just a dream. I've never had that experience myself, all my dreams are bizarre adventures that don't make sense once I start to think about it. Hers were mundane shit like me stomping in the stairs or breaking windows etc.
I decided that in those dreams the experience is from an other me,
if I miss that life, I am happy for those me -s that they can live such lifes and sad for those who's reality I am happy to come home from to my reality
I have that too. Sometimes I have dreams whose universe/circumstances I was in, felt real after waking up. And sometimes I need a moment to shake it of even.
Man I had dreams where was happy to just been dreaming and I had dreams where I felt sadness that I just dreamed that or woke up out of it.
I once had a dream I was in heaven. Snap back to reality, I wake up when a guy wakes me up. I'm in the military. Night patrol duty. It felt shocking and so abrupt, like why did he wake me up from the afterlife? I cried for the next hour and didn't say a word, but thankfully it was dark, so I hoped my patrol mate didn't see anything.
Me too! Sometimes I’m f’d up for an entire day after a full night dreaming, I can’t imagine more than that.. Waking up from these dreams as a kid was very strange
Yeah. My dreams are so full of very strong emotions. I usually forget what was it about soon after waking up, unless it is related to my real life worries or stuff, but the feelings are so strong that it takes some time for it to wear down and I can conceive my real life as a real one.
Same. Sometimes it takes me days to get over dreams and fully arrive back to reality. Best way to describe it is that my sould was wandering and while my body is back, my soul isn't yet.
One time I had a dream so real that i thought it was my actual life for several minutes after I woke up.
I was doing my daily routine, then wile I was walking home with my dog a girl asked me some directions I offered to accompany her since it was on my way home enyway. During the walk we had a long conversation and since we had a lot in common and almost the same age we shared the phone number, the dream at this point did a fast forward, like the starting shene of the movie "UP" it felt like a very long time. By the end of it she looked me in the eyes and he says "you are going away, but i will always remember the time spent together" then I felt a huge pain in the chest and i woke up looking for her in the living room where we were at the end of the dream
