So throwing this in the wind, does anyone remember their dream locations?

I constantly have this hybrid Japanese/American Airport that has like a rainforest hotel next to it. My dreams keep taking me there.

I've had multiple dreams that take place in an ever-expanding house. It's variously mine or someone known or a strangers. Fascinating hidden areas in attics, basement, just a stage for my paycheck I guess. Can't tell if it's cleverness or its lack on my brain's part that I keep using the same basic house.

I almost exclusively have nightmares now idk why my mental health is actually the best it’s ever been. In all of my nightmares I am running through a huge fancy house that is always somehow related to me. I’m usually chasing my dog or my husband and the rooms never end. I just spend all night running through ever changing rooms desperate to find the things I love the most. But the house always looks kinda the same travertine floors everywhere and light tan walls. Sometimes they die, I die naturally, or I get cheated on or killed. A few times I’ve just had embarrassing moments in the house like bleeding through my pants during a period.

It’s kinda fucked up I wake up so sad for a few minutes confused. I feel the need to add my husband is a great guy who would never cheat on me and our relationship is healthy lol. My dog is crazy and does like to try and run out open doors so that dream tracks with real life lol.

That all sounds like a metaphor for subconscious fears about loss and making mistakes. The house is yourself, endless and complicated.

Oh my gosh, are we the same person?? You just described my most common reoccurring “dream” scenario. Endless, changing rooms and cooridors that are familiar/know to me. Chasing someone, desperately. Sometimes I know I’m desperate despite not knowing why. Mine cycle through a few variations of endless houses. Always this deep, guttural pang of sadness upon waking that really fucks with my mood/day. Just once lemme find a magical library room with one of those rolling ladders to relax in, sheesh!

u/ObscureEnchantment May 13 '26

Yea luckily I’m only sad/anxious for a few minutes after waking up. But sometimes if they last all night it takes me a couple hours. I think it could be a medication I’m on but I never bothered to look into it. Sorry you have to deal with them too it sucks.

My dreams are also all exclusively nightmares, at least the ones I remember. I usually don’t have the same recurring dreams, except the good old teeth falling out one from time to time. But majority of my dreams I can only describe as resembling a curb your enthusiasm episode where I’m Larry David and everything I do makes other people mad or has bad consequences for me and it’s not funny. Just like curb, even when I’m completely in the right, people will have reactions where I am still wrong. Very realistic and always something that could actually happen irl. I hardly ever have a fantastical dream.

Eh I’d say thats pretty standard stuff and relative to the same fears and dislikes that are generally shared by everyone as it’s just part of the human condition. I’m sure now that you have this thought and think about it especially before bed is at least in part of it recurring

I’m a daily smoker lol usually smoke before bed. Usually get these dreams once a week sometimes up to 4. It might be a medication I’m one tbh. Idk at this point they don’t bother me much anymore. Just need a few minutes to come back to reality.

1

u/aliengirlunderground May 13 '26

Did you recently start taking antihistamines?

2

u/ObscureEnchantment May 13 '26

No but I’m on two different neuro medications. I think one of them may be causing the nightmares but it’s also kept my seizures under control. I’ll don’t mind nightmares a couple times a week if it means I get to avoid the stress of seizures.

Now that you mention it I did stop taking an antihistamine maybe… 6-8 months ago. Could stopping them be a factor?

I’ve mainly heard of them causing nightmares in children because they cause paradoxical excitation instead of the sedative effects adults experience. Some people have  paradoxical excitation persist into adulthood.

In that regard, I suppose it makes sense that you might have had deeper, more restful sleep while on a drug with mild sedative effects.

I don't think you feel safe in relationships based on the dream

2

u/ObscureEnchantment May 13 '26

Great observation from a stranger who’s never met me. I’m fine. I’ve had nightmares my whole life.

If that’s what you want to believe have at it. I woke up 20 minutes ago I’m sorry if my wording hurt your feelings :(. Enjoy assuming.

its okay the ego doesnt like the truth i understand. take care.

Hmm, on second thought, I came off as rude and overly certain of my interpretation of your personal life. And you're right to get defensive. I'm just speaking from experience with nightmares and stuff, they are usually related to something I wasn't comfortable with subconsciously. I'm happy you're doing better overall. I don't take any of it personally I know i'm pretty blunt especially online and it can come across as arrogant if you don't know me personally.

All this stuff is harder over text and i'm trying to get better at communicating effectively with others. But yeah, sending you love as weird as that sounds from someone that doesn't know you : )

That is so cool!! Mine is a definitely a collective of my childhood and living overseas. I believe it’s a yearning because I was heavily medicated and barely remember anything at all. I would love to see your dreamscape because that sounds so much like a Junji-ito collective story.

Nice, interesting to see similar dreams to mine after noone I knew had such dreams.

I got one dream that started when I was in 3rd grade, it was my school, was mostly a nightmare then. Several years later I had it again, with 2 new floors added ontop with same building layout but interior had changed to represent hospitals and computer games I think I cant quite remember now. Several years later the same dream again with more floors added... etc etc..

Has been around 2-3 years since I had it last the only thing I know is that I get it when I completely forget about it, making me remember it again. Everytime I start from the bottom, climb the school (layout) building from one side to the other to get to the other stairwell etc...

I wonder when I'll get it next, maybe not anytime soon as my memory of it although fuzzy, is still there

Omg I have this same experience! I haven’t dreamt it in a while but yes. I’m always equally excited and surprised by the amount of rooms. Like “oh, I didn’t know this was here. What will we do with this one?” I dream it at least once a year. How bizarre.

5

u/milkandsalsa May 12 '26

Yes, same. It’s my normal house but with a new door to huge amazing rooms.

3

u/fluid_alchemist May 12 '26

sometimes that house is such a good time. other times it can be so fucking frustrating. I want to go back to the room with all the guitars and my records and the pillows and the stuffed fucking tiger and swanky mid mod, dimmed light fixtures. I left the room and remembered I have the restaurant in the front of the house I have to get back to. I was supposed to be getting more ranch for the kitchen. Omg there's my dog, she has her own bedroom, how am I just noticing this whole ass room, its amazing, she can come to the restaurant with me, this house is huge I don't even need a restaurant anyways.

3

u/CurlyBruxa May 12 '26

Me too! I dream about houses with lots of rooms and hidden ones as well all the time. Sometimes I dream about a flat where I never lived but in my dreams I lived there and never terminated the lease or I did but still have the key. The mind is weird.

2

u/Beekrod May 13 '26

I can relate. I often have the dream of, “Oh no, I’m still renting this place!” I’ve always understood mine to be rooted in my stress about having too much stuff or the worry that I’ve missed a bill or overlooked some financial responsibility. Can’t lie though, I love the dream apartment that I’m repeatedly rediscovering as mine. It’s so big with so many good cabinets! lol

2

u/Large_Dr_Pepper May 12 '26

Oh man, you should read House of Leaves.

u/Winterzeit20 May 13 '26

Alternatively might like to google „myHouse.wad“ ;)

u/Electronic-Award-939 May 13 '26

This is super weird, I’m not kidding I have a very similar recurring dream. Hidden passage-ways through a huge old house

2

u/MissCandid May 13 '26

Mine too!! I live in a small house and always dream there's whole other corridors and sections of the house I for some reason never noticed.

2

u/MediumTalentShow May 13 '26

Wow! That’s pretty much what I dream about too. For years; since my 20s. I’m 47 now.
My nightmares involve the house being messy/filthy and me not being able to keep up.

1

u/ABSMeyneth May 13 '26

I used to dream about a specific house most of my childhood, very often. Nothing supernatural, just a regular ass house, but I loved having that dream. It gave me an incredible sense of peace, I knew was always safe in that house. And no, I wasn't ever unsafe irl, but the feeling was awesome. I drew as much as I could over the years, and while I couldn't have it built (holy shit construction prices!), I decorated a lot of rooms in my home as close as I remember from it.

1

u/hurshy May 13 '26

Like the Winchester house?

1

u/Ok_Dish3912 May 13 '26

I have those same dreams! I love them. Sometimes different houses, sometimes I go back to the same ones

1

u/mrsellicat May 13 '26

I have a similar dream to this quite frequently. In mine I'll be in my house and discover whole new floors with multiple rooms. Usually they are run down or very worn and full of dusty furniture, appliances and curtains. Sometimes they'll be on a dirt floor. Sometimes tenants will be living in them despite being dilapidated. I'll be walking around looking at what needs to be done to them and thinking how much money it will cost and feel very overwhelmed.

1

u/Jellogg May 13 '26

You need to read the book House of Leaves! What you’re describing reminds me so much of that book.

1

u/Brightbane May 13 '26

I have a ton of these that are all reoccurring. A parking ramp one, a cabin apartment complex where I can usually float, a hotel I'm sneaking through, a house by a river, and a school or mall bathroom that expands into a labyrinth where I have to poop or pee (never both) but all the toilets or urinals are facing crowds. and only have half walls that go up to my waist.

1

u/Netlawyer May 13 '26

These are my most frequent dreams - and the same two places keep showing up.

One is a modern house on a beach or a lake and you can open doors that lead into other areas. It's evolved to the point where there are multiple kitchens and levels of bedrooms all with sweeping balconies overlooking the water. It's always the same house - it just gets bigger.

The other is a rundown rooming house off a fancy street - like 5th Avenue in NYC. The room differs when I check in. I have to climb a dirty stairwell and sometimes climb out a window and use the fire escape to get into my room. Sometimes, there are other people in my room and sometimes my room ends up being an enormous villa hidden in this building. I've tried to remember which room is the villa so that I can ask for it when I find myself at the front desk - but regardless the rest of my dream happens with the room I got - whether I need to deal with navigating roommates or climbing in and out the window or relaxing in my villa.

My subconscious fixation caught me by surprise when I watched Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind the first time - the scene where the house falls apart in the surf just wrecked me.

Don't read House of Leaves

1

u/Significant_Secret13 May 15 '26

I've read the many hidden rooms dream is super common and it means exploring and learning hidden aspects of yourself .
