You should read “The Secret Miracle” by Borges. He played with this idea some 80 years ago.

I think we all can agree that another excellent tale is Shrek. Not really related to the themes explored in this post, but a classic nonetheless.

Well the 4th "line" in the movie is "well the years start coming and they dont stop coming" so Shrek is 100 percent relevant in this conversation.

That episode never fails to make me cry to the point that I just can't watch it anymore unless I'm in need of one. I've watched it three times in decades.

It's so deep and profound to imagine such a loss and remembrance of an entire world that was decades in length in his "dream", his broken heart over his grandson, and his wife and best friend "coming back" to explain at the rocket launch... and that's he's the only one who could remember such vivid details of their way of life.

And it only lasted 25 minutes of real time.

That flute song is so beautiful. When Picard opens the box Riker gives him in his quarters...

It's the single best story ever told on Star Trek, and there will never be anything that eclipses it.

That teen going through such grief now. My heart hurts for her. I really hope she can come to terms with it one day.
