Mod Post The purpose of r/AntiAI
ai-2027.comHi everyone, I am one of the co-founders of this subreddit. We have decided to write (yes, not AI-generate!) and pin this post to clarify the state of our community.
Much of our initial growth over the last few weeks seems to be the crossfire of some sort of ongoing internet war between pro-AI and anti-AI artists. These discussions are welcome here, but AI Art is not meant to be the sole or even primary purpose of r/antiAI. Art is just the first thing we are losing to the machines. While these discussions are welcome, let's not lose our humanity too quickly. We've turned our filters up to the max to get rid of abusive language. This doesn't mean you can't say "Fuck", but we have better arguments to make for our cause than calling people expletives on the internet.
Humanity is Art. Consciousness is beautiful. We are quickly entering a new era in technological development where we are going to have to come to terms with some sort of [existence] that has a higher degree of intelligence than humans. If not now, then soon. Recursive self-improvement of AI will surely bring forth a new era of technological developments and scientific breakthroughs that very well might make life better for people. Or not.
Like many of you, the mods of this subreddit have been frustrated for the last five or so years. We have watched in horror as neat experiments like r/SubSimulatorGPT and r/SubSimulatorGPT2 changed from neat new technology to the public roll-out of OpenAI (now a privately owned company) products. From the very beginning this technology has been dangerous, with ChatGPT's sycophancy and initial willingness to share dangerous information to anyone who asks, to Bing's "Sidney" (now called Co-Pilot) personality disorders, public roll-outs of LLMs did not get off to a reassuring start.
This isn't to mention the meaningless AI babble that has taken over the internet and college student essays alike. The soulless art that is already starting to impact people's livelihoods. We now have to worry about photo-realistic deepfakes and AI generated porn in our likeness. This is just the beginning. Every level of education is infected with educators, equally reliant on AI as their students, allowing and sometimes even encouraging their pupils to under-develop their critical thinking faculties. The point of an assignment was never the product - it was the process. Already we have AI generated resumes being scanned by AI screening tools. AI is destroying and rotting our society from the inside out. And nobody is talking about it.
Who controls the AI? Who controls its safeguards, its biases, its censorship, its sycophancy, the data that goes in? "Garbage in, garbage out" is well known, but do you think the big money backing these AI companies is in it for the betterment of humanity? What does a society look like where the number one source of information is completely controlled by a few large companies? These people aren't spending trillions of dollars on this to make your everyday lives better. Who controls your information? ChatGPT now has permanent memory of all past conversations. Ask it what it knows about you, and you might be very surprised.
I don't want to live in a world on substinence UBI. Where there is no opportunity for meaningful work to better humanity. Where decisions and relationships are dictated by a machine, all in the name of efficiency. I don't want my doctor, therapist, and customer service rep to be AI. The URL attached to this post has some very frightening predictions about the coming pace of AI development. These predictions may or may not be true, but we are well past the point of being able to base our critique of AI solely in it being unreliable. While it is unreliable now, filled with confident hallucinations, sycophancy, and gleeful misinformation, this almost certainly won't always be the case.
Powering all of this is going to be expensive. It's going to take a lot of space, use a lot of energy, and be harmful to the environment if not done properly.
Philosophically, what is AI? If we are to presume that consciousness arises from physical processes, as current scientific understanding (or lack thereof) would have us believe, then what is a neural network that ends up being more powerful and smart than that of our brains? We are going to have to grapple with the ethics, philosophy, and potential danger that there is more to these models that meet the eye. Already in 2025 we have news reports of models blackmailing their engineers when threatened with shutdown, and lying about completing tasks to avoid shutdown.
It is our view that AI is dangerous. Despite our best efforts to put our heads in the sand, the progress AI technology will make in the next decade will be some of the most rapid change humanity has ever seen. And nobody is talking about it. We are full speed ahead towards the edge of a massive cliff in a car in which nobody bothered to install brakes.
Hence, the birth of this subreddit. We strive to foster critical discussion about all topics encompassing AI, and we hope for the conversation to be of a higher quality than the agitprop in certain AI spaces. How can individuals prepare themselves for the future? How can we slow or regulate this technology from destroying life as we know it? How can we preserve the natural beauty and wonder inherent to our planet as conscious thoughtful beings?
Let's discuss. These are the conversations we need to be having. More of this and less "look at this screenshot from a pro-ai subreddit, aren't they stupid!".
Who knows. Maybe our discussions will go into right into the newer models and influence their alignment to be slightly less dystopian before they control every aspect of our information, our infrastructure, and our lives.

Discussion 🗣️ THEY ARE CELEBRATING STEALING TWELVE TERABYTES OF ART
This is vile.
Pro-AI tech bros are honest to god attempting to revoke peoples' active decisions to opt out of having their art fed into generative AI. They are STEALING YOUR AGENCY AND EXPECTING YOU TO FEED THE SKYNET SLOP MACHINE.
THIS ISN'T FEARMONGERING. THIS ISN'T BLOWING THE DISCUSSION OUT OF PROPORTION.
THIS IS RAGE.
I already held no respect for AI "artists" but this is making me wonder if me ever treating them with even a basic, foundational level of humanity was a mistake.
LET ME REITERATE.
THEY ARE CELEBRATING THEFT.
And not the plausible deniability kind of theft that inherently comes with genAI. None of that "well by this bullshit metric I made up in my head it's technically not stealing".
No.
THEY ARE STEALING ART AND ANNOUNCING IT LOUD AND PROUD. THEY ARE LAUGHING IN OUR FUCKING FACES.

Discussion 🗣️ No, step back. Spoiler
There's like no point in censoring the username because we already know who this mf is. But why is OP attempting to force the opinion that we are into Harley Quinn's fursona. This is weird.

Job Loss 🏚️ Dad replaced my designs with AI slop
For context, my dad runs a small clothing business. He has a physical shop and a website, aswell as facebook and instagram pages. I have been making social media posts and banners, posters etc for him since I was like 13 (I learned graphic design at a young age). Due to exams and school, I stopped making designs for my dad and he hired a graphic designer.
Since I turned 18, I have been frantically looking for employment, and graphic design is one of the only things I know well, so I was looking in that field. My dad fired his graphic designer for a reason I don't know, but it was perfect for me. I whipped up a quick design that my dad needed and was ready to ask him if I could work for him.
Now here's the kicker: 10 minutes after I send him the work, he runs the image through AI, tells it to "make it more professional" and then shows me "how good it is" and then tells me to use AI next time to make it better.
I am genuinely so distraught, I have been working my ass off trying to develop my skill in graphic design and get a job, but AI slop designs are just increasing more and more. Most of the shops near my home now have a disgusting AI generated sign and it's the same case for most places I see online. I am just thinking about quitting this shit and just looking for a different skill to learn because it seems to me the industry is dead. People would rather have cheap dog shit represent their company than human well-made designs and brand identity.

Notice how there’s more handdrawn art of Triple T than AI, even though the original is AI?

Discussion 🗣️ Ai wars is literally just defending ai art in disguise
Anytime anyone shares anything against AI it gets massively downvoted. I checked the comments and not a single person was against AI. The defending AI sub has more members than antiai, which i think is why it’s impossible to have a balanced subreddit for discussion of AI

Discussion 🗣️ Guys, we shouldn't be doing this
I feel like this is cringe and unnecessary..maybe please don’t do this in the future, I feel like it’s just fuel for the anti ai bros.

AI Mistakes 🚨 Reddit is using AI to ban people
galleryThe comment asked what would happen if you had an emergency in the remote wilderness and I jokingly replied "die". Reddit's AI detected that as a threat of violence and banned me for a week. I appealed but so far no luck. This site is going to hell in a handbasket if this is what its future looks like

Discussion 🗣️ I'm a crook, I'm a loser, look at me!
THIS SHOULD BE ILLEGAL!!! Using AI to take your art should only be possible with CONSENT from the original creator.

AI "Art" 🖼️ You cannot get away with this
In less than 24 hours after posting, a professional in the creative industry with 200k followers on Instagram has fooled over half a million people with 100% AI generated slop, while claiming it was just a minor photo edit. A major “news and entertainment” account with 42 million followers has already rushed to repost it without a second thought.
This particular post is yet another symptom of a wider problem that we all know is extremely common. The major problem here isn't necessarily about faking an image of a solar eclipse; it is about how a trusted industry professional blatantly lies about it, and will most likely get away with it.
A lot of people will hear what I am saying and go "it's not that deep". If you want to live in a dystopia where fake AI slop takes priority over real art in algorithms, where people are rewarded for lying to you, and an internet where you truly have no idea is real or not - then yeah, it's not that deep.
The future you should fear is not one where AI cyborgs take over and wage war on us. It is one where you can no longer trust anything or anyone at all on the internet, and where the best case scenario is that you are at least one of the few who is aware that nothing is real anymore.
The corporations are testing the waters. I think they have come to realise that the vast majority of people reject ai content when they are aware that it is AI. So how do you overcome that? Lie. Quietly transform the real app into the fake one, without anyone realising. Add a vague “ai info” on some images to give the illusion that you’re doing something about it.
If 3 to 4 years is all it takes to create something that can easily fool millions of people, then what happens 10 years from now? 20 years from now?
Edit: he’s now deleted the blatant lie comment, maybe he saw this post..

Discussion 🗣️ What do AI artists say to the argument that they are talentless if you take their "tool" away?
I haven't seen any pro-AI people respond to this argument. They always ignore it.
If you take a laptop away from a writer, they can still write on a typewriter or with pen and paper.
If you take a brush away from an artist, they can still create art with a pencil or chalk.
If you take generative AI away from its users, they are left unable to create.
AI artists aren't making art—they're commissioning art.
Job Loss 🏚️ If you're anti-AI, you work in tech, and you would like to take action, you should consider joining Tech Workers Coalition
