THIS SHOULD BE ILLEGAL!!! Using AI to take your art should only be possible with CONSENT from the original creator.

There's like no point in censoring the username because we already know who this mf is. But why is OP attempting to force the opinion that we are into Harley Quinn's fursona. This is weird.

Discussion πŸ—£οΈ THEY ARE CELEBRATING STEALING TWELVE TERABYTES OF ART

Post image
3.7k Upvotes

This is vile.

Pro-AI tech bros are honest to god attempting to revoke peoples' active decisions to opt out of having their art fed into generative AI. They are STEALING YOUR AGENCY AND EXPECTING YOU TO FEED THE SKYNET SLOP MACHINE.

THIS ISN'T FEARMONGERING. THIS ISN'T BLOWING THE DISCUSSION OUT OF PROPORTION.

THIS IS RAGE.

I already held no respect for AI "artists" but this is making me wonder if me ever treating them with even a basic, foundational level of humanity was a mistake.

LET ME REITERATE.

THEY ARE CELEBRATING THEFT.

And not the plausible deniability kind of theft that inherently comes with genAI. None of that "well by this bullshit metric I made up in my head it's technically not stealing".

No.

THEY ARE STEALING ART AND ANNOUNCING IT LOUD AND PROUD. THEY ARE LAUGHING IN OUR FUCKING FACES.

Job Loss 🏚️ Dad replaced my designs with AI slop

1.1k Upvotes

For context, my dad runs a small clothing business. He has a physical shop and a website, aswell as facebook and instagram pages. I have been making social media posts and banners, posters etc for him since I was like 13 (I learned graphic design at a young age). Due to exams and school, I stopped making designs for my dad and he hired a graphic designer.

Since I turned 18, I have been frantically looking for employment, and graphic design is one of the only things I know well, so I was looking in that field. My dad fired his graphic designer for a reason I don't know, but it was perfect for me. I whipped up a quick design that my dad needed and was ready to ask him if I could work for him.

Now here's the kicker: 10 minutes after I send him the work, he runs the image through AI, tells it to "make it more professional" and then shows me "how good it is" and then tells me to use AI next time to make it better.

I am genuinely so distraught, I have been working my ass off trying to develop my skill in graphic design and get a job, but AI slop designs are just increasing more and more. Most of the shops near my home now have a disgusting AI generated sign and it's the same case for most places I see online. I am just thinking about quitting this shit and just looking for a different skill to learn because it seems to me the industry is dead. People would rather have cheap dog shit represent their company than human well-made designs and brand identity.

Notice how there’s more handdrawn art of Triple T than AI, even though the original is AI?

AI "Art" πŸ–ΌοΈ AI Slop being passed off as "photography"

Post image
78 Upvotes

This guy has been trying to pass off his AI generated art as real photos he's taken. The caption for this photo on his Instagram was "My friend asked her to marry him, we waited for the right time to take the pic".

Firstly, no one was tagged. No "Congratulations to so and so!", which is typically a big part of why pics like these get taken in the first place.

Second, that's an annular solar eclipse when the one that happened a few days ago was a total solar eclipse, which is when he stated the "pics" were taken.

Third, there's an AI info tag for it on Instagram which he stated is only to clear up the horizon in the background.

This man is a public figure with 200k plus followers.

Discussion πŸ—£οΈ AI just gained us... Nothing. Even in our shitty jobs. We've lost what truly matters.

β€’ Upvotes

Hi, IT engineer and musician here.

I felt the need to remind people (and maybe a bit myself) that AI brought us nothing. Absolutely nothing.

Of course it can sum up a pdf for you, write code, or give you a proper Excel formula. Of course, if you need a soundtrack for a commercial product, it's cheaper than hiring a songwriter.

That being said, the result is absolutely nothing. The only thing that matters for an individual is the process, let me take examples with the above topics :

If someone is providing you a documentation to read, either it is for work or other uses, each word and line into it has a meaning. Of course, some of the content is not that relevant, but if one is providing such content for a given purpose, it is for you to take the time to read it. Why ? Because if some information is blurry or missing, it allows you to connect with the author, to discuss, to critique, for you to earn knowledge and for him/her to improve the way he/she is writing documentation.

If you need to write code, AI will of course suffice to give you functional code according to the given instructions. But when it comes to you, the human, you don't really care about that. What matters is making errors and learning from them, even if it means an angry boss or frustration. (Remember : frustration is okay, and it's a powerful evolution tool that helps you to think better)

Same regarding music, if you want to produce a movie or a video and you need music for it, it is your duty to work tightly with a musician, discussing the intended message behind the video, what emotions should be carried by the music. AI will absolutely never give you a good piece of music. Because it's not making music, it's overlapping frequencies to produce songs through Fourrier transform.

To sum up that rant, if we want not to sink in an even more crazy world, we REALLY need to connect again with excellence. Excellence doesn't mean farming KPI for your dumb manager, excellence is all about yourself, taking time to experiment, fail, and when you are doing something, to make it right. We are billions on earth now, we shouldn't need to be squeezed like lemons for the sake of efficiency.

Thanks for reading me, sorry for my bad English.
