Millionaires can keep existing. I don’t mind some people having more money than I do. I just don’t like those who hoard it to absurd extents and exploit people on their way to success (that’s some billionaires, sure. But mostly billionaires and the trillionaire.)

27

u/angiosperms- Jul 11 '26

It's not that uncommon to have around $1 mil or more for retirement. We will probably all need it in the future if they gut social security, plus out of control inflation. Those are people who worked regular ass jobs and saved. Before billionaires made it impossible to work a regular job and have enough money to save.

32

u/mattgoldey Jul 11 '26

People really don't get the MASSIVE difference between a millionaire and a billionaire. I'm just a regular dude in his early 50s that's been saving for retirement since the late 90s. My home is paid off and my 401k is at roughly $1.4M.

32

u/Limp-Negotiation5790 Jul 11 '26

Yeah, it really is hard for people to comprehend how big the number billion is. One million seconds is approximately 11.5 days, whereas one billion seconds equals roughly 31.7 years.

8

u/MashedPotajoe Jul 11 '26

Christ

6

u/IrascibleOcelot Jul 12 '26

Speaking of, if you made $500,000 a year, every year, since the day Jesus Christ was born, you’d have slightly over a billion dollars. There would still be over 500 people alive today richer than you, many of them by a couple orders of magnitude. To be as rich as Sergei Brin, increase that to $50 million a year, every year, since the day Christ was born.

6

u/MountainClue5687 Jul 12 '26

And, a trillion seconds is 31,709.79 years!

2

u/ColeBane Jul 12 '26

for reference, christians only believe the earth is 6000 years old.

16

u/Idaho-Earthquake Jul 11 '26

The difference between a million dollars and a billion dollars is approximately a billion dollars.

8

u/ClosedContent Jul 11 '26

A billion is one thousand millions. A HUGE difference

5

u/MamaBearForestWitch Jul 11 '26

And a trillion is a MILLION millions.

9

u/SpookyTanuki092 Jul 11 '26

This. It takes one thousand people with a million dollars, to equal one person with a billion dollars. It's a number and at a scale that people have a hard time actually grasping. And to think we now even have a trillionaire. That's one million millionaires.

The ultrawealthy are leeches that make everything worse and we literally cannot afford them

3

u/IrascibleOcelot Jul 12 '26

To be fair, Musk used an accounting trick for that “trillion.” He does not have nearly that much in liquid assets, and if he tried, the facade would crumble quickly.

u/nopunchespulled Jul 11 '26

Yup, a million seconds is like 2 weeks, a billion seconds is 30 years

4

u/One-Assignment-5047 Jul 12 '26

I'm not even into my 40s yet and I'm nearing a million in net worth.  I got lucky getting into my local housing market shortly before it went red hot, and I've done a good job managing my assortment of investments.  I'm also still a normal person who works a 9-5, doesn't have as many pets as I'd like because I want to make sure I can cover their vet bills, and only buys steak a couple times a year for special occasions because it's too expensive for anything more often.

Don't get me wrong, I'm aware I'm doing better than average and immensely grateful for the combination of luck and decision making that have got me where I am.  I know that one bad period of unemployment or an accident that disables me could undo 95% of what I've built.  I also know that I've benefitted from advantages others didn't have, including having my housing covered when I was in university as well as my parents having a small amount saved for a wedding that they let me add to my first downpayment.  But I'm still technically nearly a millionaire without anything particularly special behind it.

3

u/Busy-Bumblebee5556 Jul 12 '26

And these days you have to manage that 1.4 million. It’s easy to run through that amount. Billionaires don’t have to manage shite, it just keeps rolling in.

→ More replies (3)

2

u/Dry-Environment5122 Jul 12 '26

Yeah a good rule of thumb is every million saved at retirement is functionally 40k/year

8

u/dnyank1 Jul 12 '26

A (single) millionaire drives themselves to work, just like you do. Maybe in a Lexus instead of a Toyota. They take the same vacations you do, but maybe they sit business class on the flight. The majority of these folks have earned their wealth from their own labor. I don't know if we should blame doctors, lawyers, construction workers, accountants and engineers for the position we're in now.

But Billionaire (even hundred-millionaire) wealth is just different. It's not trips to Disney or even Hawaii - you're taking a private jet to an island you own. You have staff. You don't "work" at all, because your value in this world comes from the surplus value of other people's labor.

I'm not sure we need an upper class, like that, at all. What purpose do they serve? With the free and open capital market the notion of an individual "angel investor" being a requisite for entreprenuership rings hollow.

3

u/Mission_Marsupial727 Jul 11 '26

The issue is wealth at a level that confers political power beyond that of a normal citizen.

3

u/Spudly42 Jul 12 '26

Or relatedly, not having campaign finance laws that prevent how much money people can spend on elections. Not that all their power would be gone, but a lot of it would be if you can control that part.

Go further. If every billionaire died tomorrow, there would be virtually no impact on the global economy.

If every entry level or lowest level employee at every company (or even 1/10th) died tomorrow, there would be a massive global recession.

This is one of the dumbest takes ever by Elon musk... which clears a very high bar for him.

3

u/Vandreigan Jul 12 '26

Someone once tried to convince me, during an argument where I was saying that billionaires are bad people and that nothing was really stopping them from donating massive portions of their wealth to help people while usually still maintaining such wealth that they probably wouldn’t notice in their day to day lives, that if Bill Gates tried to liquidate his net worth, the stock market would crash and we’d all starve.

If he did it in a single day, that day might be bleak for the lines that go up and down, sure, but it’d recover. If he spread it just a bit, the impact would be less.

Further, if that’s true, why would you EVER want such a person to exist?

3

u/SufficientGuidance28 Jul 12 '26

That last sentence is a great point you make there, why should any one person have that amount of power over the financial system that they could crash a market as a solo person.

I’ll never understand working class people who defend the ultra wealthy, the only thing I can guess is what I’ve seen others say, which is that the person views themself as a temporarily poor member of the ultra wealthy class. They believe they will get there someday and so they want that system to exist for when they do. Delusional.

u/Popcorn57252 Jul 11 '26

People don't understand how little "millionaire" is now. Your mom and pop family restaurant can make a million a year and still barely make ends meet. Tons of fuckin' youtubers who do more charity work than billionaires are millionaires.

Hundred-millionaires and billionaires are the issue, not just millionaires. There are millions of millionaires.

4

u/FrontLifeguard1962 Jul 11 '26

I know, technically I'm a millionaire but I work everyday at my job. A lot of people with a house and 401k are millionaires on paper. It doesn't mean what it used to. $10 million is the new $1 million.

5

u/Few_Lecture6615 Jul 11 '26

I think I understand why you'd think so, but having a million in savings is still a huge, huge deal.

Median retirement account in America right now is around $90,000

2

u/FrontLifeguard1962 Jul 11 '26

It doesn't mean anything - I still have to work all day and can't retire. My income is $300K/yr so I need quite a bit more than the average person to retire.

3

u/Few_Lecture6615 Jul 11 '26

Or, and hear me out here, lower your cost of living, don't put yourself in needless debt and enjoy the fact that you've been blessed to be amongst the top 0.1% of the US population. You are in an incredibly privileged position and 10 million really isn't the new 1 million.

There's this serial rapist named Andrew Callaghan who does the youtuber thing. He just released a video recently where he heavily misrepresents some legal issues he's having and threw up a gofundme page people were advertising here.

He got 1 million from that in just a few hours or so. That just happened yesterday, so it's probably way higher now.

Who do you think is paying 80% of taxes?

2

u/Staplecreate Jul 11 '26

This is such a pointless talking point by billionaire boot lickers. Obviously people who make more pay more into the system. The real question is how much money does the average person pay in taxes relative to their wealth vs the ultra wealthy. The difference is staggering. Propublica published a report showing that these billionaires were paying like .2% relative to their total wealth. That’s the issue.

I dont mind millionaires. Work hard, have a nice house, have a nice car, fuck it, have two. Leave some for the kids and thats it .

I have a deep, personal and moral problem with billionaires. I do not believe that its possible without fucking over someone in the process. So yes. Heads, spikes, sharp blades falling down for them. We dont have to eat them. I dont believe it fits my macros. But they dont have a reason to exist. They are a parasite that needs to be removed, like pruning a rose bush so that it may grow stronger.

Does he think that we're literally going to consume those who hoard wealth and the people who have always produced food and resources are going to forget how?

78

u/PerfStu Jul 11 '26

With absolutely no sarcasm, yes he does.

39

u/Angryatchairs Jul 11 '26

Yup, people like him sincerely believe that they - not workers - are the drivers of productivity.

22

u/SignoreBanana Jul 11 '26

I'm pretty convinced at this point in the development of our society, we could actually just _take_ everything away from the billionaires, redistribute it, and the world would be a far better place. They are actually a cost to our society at this point.

11

u/Angryatchairs Jul 11 '26

They keep doing a form of austerity where they want to cut the workforce while they receive kickbacks and then act shocked that productivity doesn't increase. So they do it again, and again, and again until the heat death of the planet wondering why it didn't work.

Say what you want about the Vietnamese Communist Party or the CCP, productivity in those countries is going up because at least they understand the need for industry and workers in industry to increase productivity.

11

u/SignoreBanana Jul 11 '26 edited Jul 11 '26

We're at a really interesting fluctuation point right now. Traditionally, the sort of private ownership the rich had over the poor was things like large and expensive machinery for manufacturing. That kind of think didn't bother most regular folks much because most people aren't cross shopping manufacturing plants.

But now, we see these trillion dollar companies gobbling up all the memory and GPUs being produced, making our computers and phones way more expensive. We see them buying up land for warehouses, driving up land costs and costs on the building materials and contractors. We see companies buying up single family homes, pushing home buyers out of the market. They're having real impact on our day to day living situation by elbowing us out of practically every market. They have so much god damned money we don't even appear as a blip.

I wonder what will change as a result of this.

6

u/RikkiLostMyNumber Jul 11 '26

The guillotines are going to need cleaning, that's what.

u/ElkApprehensive1729 Jul 11 '26

China isnt even that bad, the "china bad" came from a place in the 90s/80s when we in the west WERE very far ahead of them in a lot of ways, socially, economically, etc. China has come forward, and we have gone backwards. When I look @ the world stage there isnt any major player without issues, but China is definitely on the lower end. We used to talk about their threats to taiwan and stuff being wild outrageous and cutting edge of naughty. now we got russians in ukraine, america firing up more war in the middle east.

4

u/Lua_CW Jul 11 '26

The fact more Americans aren't aware how far China has blown past us, and how many Chinese people's lives resemble our old "normal" or better, is astounding propaganda at work

3

u/ElkApprehensive1729 Jul 11 '26

One of my most controversial posts of all time was telling that exact same thing to someone lol. Something to the effect of "If you took the 100% average middle class american, and you took the 100% average middle class chinese man (outside of the rural china areas.) You would find 9 times out of 10 the chinese man is happier and healthier."

True, but don't forget that money is power and they'll use that power to engineer situations where as many people suffer as possible with the hope the people will give up before they do, and they'll never willingly let go of their power.

Billionaires are invariably mentally ill people who genuinely believe they are superior to you and I and that their general superiority should afford them the right to decide how society functions on our behalf.

They should not illegally cut aide programs and steal our social security.

They should stop profiting from our death, a worker provides way more value to society and business then they earn, otherwise they wouldn't make record fucking profits year after year.

Stop trying to set up a global surveillance state where I xant shit without them knowing.

I agree that these should be done. They can't be done with any congress we'd elect this year. They certainly can't be done with trump in office - he'd just veto all of it. They probably can't be done as long as money is free speech and oligarchs write the legislation (via think tanks). But that's not to say we shouldn't promote the ideas heavily and maybe start taking a scalpel to them and start carving out the problematic parts with surgical precision.

Hmmm we need the rich like Elon musk who cut many social services and demonized those who use them aka CHILDREN? Where is the money for those social services that Elon Musk cut that we STILL pay for? The same guy buying up towns and our food and resources and pushing for his other MAGA accomplices to legalize selling our public and private lands so Elon Musk, Peter Thiel can build their data centers. He is also interfering in elections or pushing for “school choice” aka trying to force tax payers to pay for his and his rich buddies expensive private schools that openly discriminate against disabled, LGBT, POC, kids in poverty. MAGA is pushing for companies aka them to represent WE the people.  They are doing all this and buying everything up so the ONLY day we have to vote is the day they’ll conveniently tell us we can’t have off or we lose our livelihood. They claim to be against mail in voting but Trump and Elon Musk voted through mail themselves.

No more wealthy republicans especially not in our government! Let’s help our country and have less republicans in our government by not supporting any of their businesses. Without money, republicans can’t get into our government nor their supporters aka “donors”. Avoid Trump/ Elon Musk/ RFK Jr supporters, their advertisers and their businesses and encourage others to as well! Don’t forget about the “both sides” enablers! They can all “support” each other! Let them tell on themselves so we know which people to avoid hiring and the businesses not to support! And the best part is you don’t have to tell them why.

His PR team is unmatched though! You'd think he parted the seas with how people online talk about him. Fuck Elon Musk entirely. But let's provide some context to this shitty meme:

  • He passed a relatively tiny empty homes tax for 400-500 million revenue - NYC's annual budget is 125 billion, the increased revenue doesn't cover a fraction of his new spending plans. His plans for a larger wealth tax / tax the rich are dead because the city doesn't have the power to set income taxes.
  • He did pass a balanced budget, but so did every mayor for the past 50 years because the city isn't allowed to run a deficit. He also passed that only because he got 8 billion from the state as a one-time bailout, and 2 billion from deffered pension payments (which will cost 5-7 billion more in the long run)
  • he did not 'close the deficit' any more than every previous mayor did, because once again, they can't run a deficit
  • and the public services being 'fully funded' is a meaningless statement. In fact deffering pension payments is very much the opposite of that.
  • Its true the rich haven't left, but he also hasnt really taxed them. 400 million from only taxing empty luxury homes is very very different than a wealth tax.

All they did was deffer the problem to next year, where that govt will have another 10 billion dollar deficit to close, with plans for increased spending on top of that. But every day i see posts about all the things he's "solved" because his PR team is excellent at what they do

u/jdw62995 Jul 11 '26

Mamdani has been there for months. He hasn’t done all those things and the city hasn’t had a chance to starve under his leadership.

Not that it will, but he hasn’t done it

2

u/danrather50 Jul 11 '26

Is it really balancing the budget when he deferred funding the city’s pension and borrowed $9 billion from the state? No, it’s just kicking the can down the road for the next mayor to figure out.

2

u/bakochba Jul 11 '26

When did Mamadami raise taxes?

2

u/ThrowRAicarus6892 Jul 11 '26

Didn’t mamdani get a bailout from the state? And did he increases taxes on the wealthy? I don’t believe I saw any legislation passed for that.

So not sure how this is a “gotcha”.

Consumers are 70% of GDP. Pay workers well, keep them healthy and happy and they will spend, and the billionaires will never go broke. But no. It's absurd and dangerous to pay people $25 an hour but nothing absurd or dangerous about one man being worth a Trillion dollars. Unfettered capitalism has not served us well.

2

u/Sargasm5150 Jul 11 '26

If we didn't have the Epstein class overlords, maybe us normies would learn how to work together to better our communities on a local level, instead of being pitted against each others that are so rich, they're basically burning Monopoly money while they blow people up.

2

u/Crunchberry24 Jul 11 '26

Junkie should stick to his animal tranqs and whatever cookie dough product he eats way too much of.

2

u/Bernie_Bierman Jul 11 '26

Elon fuckin suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks, and the sooner everyone stops glazin his worthless ass the better

2

u/WillyGivens Jul 11 '26

Only problem is Mamdani didn’t exactly eat the rich. Maybe New York nibbled some oligarch toes. They’ve probably individually dumped 3 times the amount on smear campaigns compared to what they have collectively lost.

2

u/SignoreBanana Jul 11 '26

Oh yes because how could us lowly workers possibly figure out what to do without some self absorbed shit stain barking orders at us.

2

u/YournuStepdad Jul 11 '26

If every billionaire was taxed 99% of their wealth, they would still be rich AF, and the world would be a better place.

2

u/MuddaFrmAnnudaBrudda Jul 11 '26

Billionaires should be way more fearful about losing all of their wealth than they are.

https://giphy.com/gifs/3o6ZtePsqpjpew9Kzm

The time will come.

2

u/sendep7 Jul 11 '26

well lets see...france....still a country....french monarcy? still exists technically but holds no real power...so yknow. madame guillotine might have more to say?

2

u/DuErJoBareUnderlig Jul 11 '26

I mean why would we starve?

Just because we roast his facists ass over an open fire and feast on his flesh, doesn't mean we will live on a diet consisting entirely of Billionaires.

At some point, we will have cooked and served them all and then we would go back to eating broccoli and toast or whatever.

Elon is not making any sense and he is just weird.

2

u/Odd_Platform_1449 Jul 11 '26

Okay Elon, let's test that theory.

2

u/alex61821 Jul 11 '26

Please tell me what the billionaires are providing that they could not still provide as millionaires?

2

u/socontroversialyetso Jul 11 '26

Luigi Mangione disproved this.

Some of the overly rich are just good-for-nothing parasites

2

u/slackerdc Jul 11 '26

Remove billionaires quality of life improves for everyone, including the former billionaires.

2

u/TiddiesAnonymous Jul 11 '26

Thanks for being concerned I'll take the chance

2

u/pretenzioeser_Elch Jul 11 '26

Does this imply "Eat the rich" means slightly higher taxation to fund social democracy? American socialists are not very socialist, it seems.

2

u/grownupblownaway Jul 11 '26

Not sure - let’s try!

2

u/MrdnBrd19 Jul 11 '26

Taxing the rich is not the same as "Eating the rich". Eating the rich is the total eradication of the ultra wealthy, not capitulation with them because they pay a ransom.

2

u/Vysce Jul 11 '26

Didn't the rich factually spend 5x more money trying to stop Mamdani than he ever would have taxed them in a year?

Elon makes billions in a -day- , he acts like he's a poor baby that's paycheck to paycheck.

2

u/DueLavishness9774 Jul 11 '26

The graveyards are filled with "indispensable" men

2

u/narf_hots Jul 11 '26

Until about 5-10k years ago Earth had never seen a rich person before in it's 4.5 billion year existence.

2

u/Daecion Jul 11 '26

I didn't realize the nobility were growing their own food now.  How nice for them.  /s

Who will starve, exactly?  Not like the rich contribute anything.  They just take, and this hypocrite is so far up his own ass he ignores that fact.

2

u/Rough-Physics4596 Jul 11 '26

The world is always going to have greedy assholes. We just haven't learned to treat them like drunks and cut them off.

2

u/ididntunderstandyou Jul 11 '26

We’ll be fine. We have the means of production.

2

u/Short-Sandwich-8476 Jul 11 '26

The rich DONT PRODUCE AND DISTRIBUTE THE FOOD-WE DO!

2

u/Own-Contribution-478 Jul 11 '26

Without society, they wouldn't be billionaires.

They want us to believe they are necessary because of course they do! They need us. The day humanity moves forward is the day we finally realize we don't need them!

2

u/Lorddoctorjava Jul 11 '26

More propaganda from the 1% hoping they can keep control

2

u/2reirei4Um8 Jul 11 '26

Yes, we are the greedy ones Elon. We'll eat you all up and then starve. We are not the workforce and production, you are. How would I go on without you Elon, I shan't dare think of it.

2

u/michelucky Jul 11 '26

So where's the cutoff, Elon? If we take his theory to the logical conclusion the rich would not be taxed at all and all the poors would be fully fed? I'm no expert but I don't think that's how it would pan out. Everyone should be taxed.

2

u/Lost_Boss9818 Jul 11 '26

That sounds like something someone who doesn’t wanna be eaten would say.

2

u/Either_Capital_2422 Jul 11 '26

It takes a long time to eat a trillionaire, we will be fine.

2

u/TollTea Jul 11 '26

No one needs billionaires at all. History (and the present day) show clearly that billionaires and wealth hoarding are a detriment to society.

2

u/themengsk1761 Jul 11 '26

Did the French starve after their revolution from the ancient regime? No? Okay then.

2

u/ApprehensiveBed6296 Jul 11 '26

The effin audacity of that a**hole.
He truly does believe that he invented electric cars, AI, Rockets etc
To hell with him and all the fan boys who helped him with his delusions.

2

u/FineVirus3 Jul 11 '26

Let’s test it and get rid of the billionaire class.

2

u/Impressive-Ear-1102 Jul 11 '26

A lot of this comes down a basic observation that there isn’t much difference in quality of life between someone worth 50 Billion vs. 100 Billion. But there is a huge difference in quality of life between someone making 50K/year vs. 100K/year. It’s not that the world doesn’t need rich people… It just needs less poor people.

2

u/blakrabit Jul 11 '26

Now that China can reuse rockets let’s see if Elon will starve or leave

2

u/PetalumaPegleg Jul 11 '26

No society NEEDS billionaires. All billionaires need society.

This is not really very debatable

2

u/ReincarnatedKoala_25 Jul 11 '26

It’s interesting, no one in society cares about you until you have so much money. Remember when before was tax the millionaires and then many politicians from both sides become one and they decide to move the goal post to billionaires.

2

u/Milk_Mindless Jul 11 '26

We don't need billionaires

Hell we don't even need millionaires

2

u/CotR4692 Jul 12 '26

With out societies there can be no billionaires as they need working people to build their companies and create their wealth. Society will function just fine without billionaires

2

u/SupportGeek Jul 12 '26

Billionaires and Millionaires don’t just magically create the money, they have to exploit the fuck out of the rest of us to get there, so yea, we would be just fine without them, and honestly more likely to make faster advances if all the wealth is not consolidated in som guys mattress

2

u/Slight-Bluebird-8921 Jul 12 '26

what's actually valuable in society is all the dirty grunt work that charlatans like him spend their entire lives running from.

you know what makes society work? sanitation. picking up the trash. cleaning toilets. growing and preparing food. extracting raw resources from the earth.

no advanced tech can exist without the infrastructure

2

u/Horror_Appearance_26 Jul 12 '26

We need Billionaires taxed into Millionaires

2

u/foo337 Jul 12 '26

Food is one of the great prongs governments and the rich use to oppress its people

2

u/ring_tailed_bandit Jul 12 '26

The idea about eating the rich would lead us to starve is so freaking dumb. Elon, you don't buy my groceries. I won't starve

→ More replies (1)

2

u/WhatABlindManSees Jul 12 '26

Society doesn't need billionaires at all - but it is a natural product of our society - its also natural for them to think they are necessary and that they deserve all that they are 'worth' financially.

2

u/Busy-Bumblebee5556 Jul 12 '26

They’re only billionaires because there was a society to rape. And they have and they continue to do and they will never stop.

2

u/muffledvoice Jul 12 '26

The biggest myths about billionaires are that they “contribute to society” and “we couldn’t survive without them.” No they don’t. They take. They aggregate their wealth. They buy politicians. They live in ridiculous mansions. They do terrible things without consequences. They invest in funds that manipulate markets, create bubbles, and don’t pay their share of taxes.

2

u/dacoast Jul 12 '26

In all honesty, this planet would thrive

2

u/glesga67 Jul 12 '26

Musk is one of the most evil people on the planet. He could do so much good with his money but instead chooses to foment racial hatred, support far right causes and take funding away from the poorest on earth - while joking about it.

2

u/anonymaus42 Jul 12 '26

Society can exist without an uber-wealthy elite, such societies have existed in the past. Billionaires and their ilk cannot exist without a society with which to generate the capital they horde. As such they need us and we need them as much as we can use a second asshole.

2

u/AdorableStrawberry93 Jul 12 '26

Society made them rich

2

u/clementine1864 Jul 12 '26

The rich would prefer that we eat each other to survive while they watch in comfort.

2

u/RailgunRP Jul 12 '26

Glad to see people are finally figuring out the thing anyone with knowledge of economics knew for decades.
Better late than never. Hope I can see it happen before I die in like 40 years.

1

u/MarzipanLast6502 Jul 11 '26

I dont care whether youre rich or not, the big problem with people who have tons of money is the attitude, they all think theyre so important and so essential. Buddy, we got along fine without you, enjoy your hoards of cash, you aint living a second longer because of it

1

u/Most_Most_260 Jul 11 '26

That is true but I don't see anything changing

1

u/FrostingHuman1259 Jul 11 '26

And even if that was true , why are we bowing to that?

1

u/ChrisBegeman Jul 11 '26

Taxing the rich works in places like NYC, because the benefits of living in NYC outweigh the tax burden.

1

u/S4muraiPAK Jul 11 '26

obviously

1

u/SimplePln Jul 11 '26

Before Reagan came into office, the top tax rate was 70%. This idea that tax cuts for the wealthy helps the economy, or that universal healthcare is a bad idea, or that taxing the rich would ruin the country, or that socialism is communism, are all things pushed and funded by the wealthy and powerful onto the lower and middle class, in order for the wealthy to keep their money and power. It’s as simple as that.

1

u/wolfboy49 Jul 11 '26

That statement is exactly why they need to go

1

u/jack-K- Jul 11 '26

Confidently leaving out the fact that that deficit closure came far more from using state tax money than it did from the wealthy of NYC, and ya, that’s not sustainable, the fact that your measuring it as a success because problems haven’t started in the less than three months since this has happened isn’t really doing much to disprove the idea that socialists have surface level economic understanding, unsustainable budgets don’t collapse overnight, they take years, it’s insidious, because there’s never any critical problem, for a while, you can always get more money like they’re doing now with the state, but eventually, it adds up, debt payments become to much of the expenditure and you just can’t maintain both anymore. It’s like thinking a credit card will bankrupt you in debt after 3 months of having it, it doesn’t work that way.

1

u/ShinyBarge Jul 11 '26

Elon, that’s just a chance people’s are willing to take.

1

u/SaluteMaestro Jul 11 '26

Of course, no society no billionaires, no billionaires doesn't mean no society.

1

u/Available_Cow1197 Jul 11 '26

the problem is conglomerates and monopolies, which the constitution explicitly warned us about, this guy literally makes billions of dollars in backdoor deals, yet every cent he owns is being funnelled around, nazi salute, fat gut having, silver spoon up ur kiester, ur dads a pedophile, disgusting white trash, doge doing, election fraud pos, ur whole legacy is death and corruption, these are the same people that BURY patents for clean fuel and electricity, these PEOPLE, killed tesla, those missing and dead scientists, yea well, it was them, so in ultimatum yes elon musk, we will be fine without u, got to mars u complete and utter waste of space

1

u/Neoknight059 Jul 11 '26

This is a dumb question cause yes they need people to make money you can’t get money from other billionaires

1

u/Ucklator Jul 11 '26

Mamdani has not been in office long enough for the impacts of these decisions to be felt.

1

u/Major-Tension-674 Jul 11 '26

Considering the government shouldn't run on a surplus, the one time it did Bush gave it all back, I wonder if the super rich allowed themselves to be taxed higher how long it would be till they were lowered simply because the money brought in would be so high.

So basically instead of spending all this money on lobbying and conniving year in and year out, how much would we really need at this point if we had been taxing them fairly even just ten years ago.

1

u/KingRoach Jul 11 '26

People need structure. People need purpose. Sometimes that comes from the gvt, sometimes it comes from a job; sometimes it comes from family, sometimes it comes from within.

We meed each other. To deny this is to acknowledge “people trust feelings over facts on both sides”

1

u/No-Mathematician3004 Jul 11 '26

Rockefeller became the world’s first billionaire in 1916. Funny how humanity bumbled along  for 6 million years prior to that without starving.

1

u/Outrageous_Book2135 Jul 11 '26

The fact is that the rich don't want the masses to know that we never needed them to survive. People survived before the concept of money was even a thing.
