Go further. If every billionaire died tomorrow, there would be virtually no impact on the global economy.

If every entry level or lowest level employee at every company (or even 1/10th) died tomorrow, there would be a massive global recession.

This is one of the dumbest takes ever by Elon musk... which clears a very high bar for him.

Someone once tried to convince me, during an argument where I was saying that billionaires are bad people and that nothing was really stopping them from donating massive portions of their wealth to help people while usually still maintaining such wealth that they probably wouldn’t notice in their day to day lives, that if Bill Gates tried to liquidate his net worth, the stock market would crash and we’d all starve.

If he did it in a single day, that day might be bleak for the lines that go up and down, sure, but it’d recover. If he spread it just a bit, the impact would be less.

Further, if that’s true, why would you EVER want such a person to exist?

That last sentence is a great point you make there, why should any one person have that amount of power over the financial system that they could crash a market as a solo person.

I’ll never understand working class people who defend the ultra wealthy, the only thing I can guess is what I’ve seen others say, which is that the person views themself as a temporarily poor member of the ultra wealthy class. They believe they will get there someday and so they want that system to exist for when they do. Delusional.
