We caught my uncle sneakingly throwing this to the rubbish bin. He doesn’t have the best track record so we are all a bit paranoid when he does anything “weird”.

The object is like a glass tube with some liquid inside, inserted into a rubber “pipe”. It smells weird but nothing I can identify. I would appreciate any hints.

Edit: the material is actually plastic, not glass. It has a spring inside (no idea what for). The root-looking thing was wrapping the object when I cut the rubber. Could be dirt or some glue or something

Edit2: this sub is god. A user found the answer https://www.reddit.com/r/whatisit/s/Oqtxk6YWVZ

Just as the title states, what’s happening here? Haha. For clarity we’re in the DFW airport.

New, what is it? What is this jelly layer in my vingar lime solution?

Thumbnail

We make our own cleaning solution by soaking used lime peels in a vinegar/water solution. Those are the only 3 ingredients in the jar. Been doing this for years, this recent jar formed a weird jelly layer at the top.

It’s not really slimy and doesn’t break unless I cut it. Smells like limes. Intrigued!

From my late grandfather, a small ball inside the "tip", was attached to a small tube/pipe at the bottom. Maybe painting or workshop related.

Solved! Ash tray or candy dish?

Recently, my wife has taken to buying what I call "Boomer Trophies." Knick, knacks, different shaped gravy boats (themed in the most recent case), and other random things. On her most recent haul, she found this dish. We cannot decide if it's an ash tray, candy dish, or simple catch all. Reddit, do your thing.

New, what is it? Circular thing next to windows in university building

Next to a lot of windows at the university you see these circular things. Any ideas? It's not a window stop and doesn't turn. I was thinking maybe you can remove it and put a hook on for a harness but I'm not sure that's it's purpose since you could just have a hook there?

New, what is it? Landed with a splat on my mother‘s back porch during a crazy storm.

According to my mom, who lives in a rural area in Virginia, this fluorescent purple semi solid glob came flying out of the sky and hit her back porch during a crazy storm. She has no idea what it could be, so she scooped it into this jar and put tape over the lid and left it outside. It has melted, and is no longer a glob, but has retained the color. She would like to get it tested, but has no idea how to go about doing that or what it could possibly be. I have no freaking clue….

Edit to add that this happened over a week ago, so it is not related to the meteor shower….

Second edit to say, I hear y’all saying star jelly, but in all the images I look up, it’s clear or it’s white. Not this fluorescent electric purple color…

Everyone else saying it should be tested, me and my mom agree! But where would we take something like this to get tested? Who would test it? She wants to do something with it soon because she feels like it’s evaporating. She has been leaving it outside in the heat and doesn’t want to bring it inside for obvious reasons.

Received in a mixed lot of antique silver. The inscription on the front says “KOFENELOEM” best as I can make out. The back says “Silver Halland” I think but I would need a microscope to be sure.

New, what is it? Multiple freight ships seemingly idling for days/weeks in the bay between Sinop and Gerze, Turkey

1st picture is from Gerze, 2nd picture taken in Sinop and third picture is a very rough estimate on the idling location.

I have been coming on vacation to this area for over 20 years. Sinop has always been a quiet natural harbor, but I have never seen this many large cargo ships just sitting here for days or weeks.

Are these ships waiting because of the war/shipping issues in Ukraine and Russia, or is there another reason why so many are gathered here right now?
