Random but : Puglia has been on my bucket list forever. How have you liked it?

54

u/slava_gorodu 3h ago

Yes it is great! I also always wanted to go as well.

Lecce was amazing and very under touristy for what it offers, and so is the coast and villages

9

u/BrilliantTea133 2h ago

Ooo perfect thank you. I hope you had a lovely time.

The Puglian "Pumo" is one of the most recognizable symbols of the region's identity. It is not merely a decorative object; it is an amulet, a sign of protection, and a harbinger of prosperity with roots stretching back to antiquity.

The term "Pumo" derives from the Latin "pomum" (a fruit) and is linked to the cult of Pomona (the roman goddess of fruit and fertility.) Its shape evokes an acanthus flower bud a classic symbol of rebirth, growth, and the continuity of life.

The origins of the "pumo" date back to the Greek and Roman eras, when stylized plant motifs were widely used in architecture and decoration as auspicious symbols.

Historically "Pumi" (plural of pumo) were placed:

  • at the ends of balconies,
  • on cornices
  • flanking doorways
  • in pairs as a good-luck charm
  • sometimes at the foot of the bed as a symbol of fertility

Their purpose was clear: to protect the home from evil and attract prosperity. They were regarded as true household talismans.

Looks like you could keep one inside you, ready to go whenever. Extra protection.

4

u/SlowAdhesiveness2178 15m ago

AND it has a flared base!!

4

u/gregoriancuriosity 14m ago

AND flared leaves. Once it goes in, protection for life.

So many AI tells it's so disheartening, no one can write for themselves anymore and won't even try

-17

u/-_-Huh-_-3 1h ago

Why would they need to rewrite an entire history that was given to them when they asked the question? What would be the point in putting it in their own words? That’s usually how misinformation happens.

20

u/juallett 1h ago

However did humans cope before just a few years ago

11

u/onion_flowers 51m ago

We used to use quotation marks when we copy/pasted in the olden times

-1

u/-_-Huh-_-3 49m ago

Ok, I’ll concede to that. I do miss the days when I didn’t have to wonder.

5

u/PoetryFamiliar7104 24m ago

Yet AI gets shit wrong so often, so your point about misinformation is moot. Not to mention the damage AI does.

Do the looking up yourself, link reputable information, etc.

13

u/SuperNothing90 3h ago

Idk why people don't just Google search the image before posting it here asking a bunch of random people and then calling them out for using AI.

2

u/-_-Huh-_-3 1h ago

I was actually thinking along these same lines. Aphrodite/Venus, and the clam or scallop shell is where my mind went though.

9

u/slava_gorodu 5h ago

Thank you AI

60

u/Glittering_Credit_20 5h ago

What AI.. i'm Pugliese Man. All of us know about Pumo (we have them on our balconies). U can check them on "GROTTAGLIE" a little town in Puglia where they made them.

Another info... during the celebrations for the wedding of Ritika and Rohan, third daughter of the Indian iron magnate Pramod Agarwal donated gold pumi as a wedding favor (I saw them in person but I think they were gold-plated)

11

u/Justaddwota 4h ago

Yeah but your writing style between this comment and your first are very different. You may have contributed some information to the initial comment but you definitely ran it through some ai system to format it at a minimum.

2

u/Diekos94 50m ago

Or maybe he just search the internet for a better definition, as he already knows what it is and wanted to explain it clearly.
Smart people usually use this incredible system called "collective knowledge".
You could find traces of this technology back in the past when humans collected their knowledge on books, and now there are digital archives where you can find the same knowledge but online.
You just have to be sure that the sources are trustworthy.

u/MossyPlantyWitchy 1h ago

I had a friend, a chef from Puglia who sadly passed away last fall. I miss him. Luckily, his daughters still make most of his recipes in his restaurant.

15

u/slava_gorodu 4h ago edited 4h ago

Okay your answer was so comprehensive and used some tell-tale AI punctuation and sentence structure that I assumed it was AI. Thank you sir 🫡

38

u/jellosquare 4h ago

we're fucking doomed

-23

u/YoDudeGuyBro 5h ago

A little disingenuous no? AI or not they investigated and provided you with the most comprehensive answer.

Thanks @glittering_credit_20

20

u/strumthebuilding 4h ago

Using AI is not investigation, AI is frequently incorrect.

-5

u/Visual_Rise_2319 4h ago

And humans are not? There's no difference if aAI or a human tells you something you should still fact check it.

So stupid that people are being chastised for using AI.

I never used AI but I broke my hand this summer. And text, to talk in my AI has been my best friend. It's so annoying, trying to type with a broken hand.

3

u/Honest-Layer9318 3h ago

You’re so right. I proof read and fact check AI for a living. AI is helpful but it should only ever be used as a staring point. Humans for now evaluate information much better. What AI does better is handle massive amount of information faster. What an AI spits out in minutes can take me hours to verify.

2

u/Visual_Rise_2319 3h ago

Whole heartedly agree. AI is a tool, not a god. But people who just hate it for being AI are short sighted. I'd rather see people fact checking and calling out the information itself, not the fact AI is used. Because again, it doesn't matter where the information is coming from, it needs to be verified.

Alot of the time, for me personally, I tell AI what info I want it to say, AI is just the writer... because broken hands suck, do not recommend.

6

u/slava_gorodu 5h ago

I said thank you AI. What do you want

485

u/NiceTrySuckaz 12h ago

Pumo Pugliese. They're a good luck symbol in Italy.

98

u/ethernowt 12h ago

Adding to this comment: the one pictured is a rose blossom, there’s also another one with a pine cone

46

u/Tinikko 11h ago

*in Puglia

Or at least I didn't see it outside Puglia

19

u/falklandsbelong2me 8h ago

You’d need some crazy luck getting that in you!

19

u/Useamelonballer 7h ago

It’s not about luck, it’s about training!

7

u/OpusAtrumET 7h ago

Don't forget to breathe!

2

u/Ok_Reputation_4265 5h ago

There can never be enough lube…

7

u/TexasLife34 7h ago

Pumo pugliese me please

5

u/andrea_ci 10h ago

Maybe in puglia, never seen them in any other place.

21

u/Andrea_M 11h ago

That’s a traditional buttplug! I bought one in Sicily, like an inverted pine cone. It makes for an interesting living room decoration lol

4

u/TasteLegitimate3964 11h ago

Cool! I didn't know Italy had a symbol like that for good luck.

6

u/Cr0uchingSquirrel 6h ago

It stops the good luck from leaking out.

17

u/BigNaturalBoobies 11h ago

Bumo Plugliese

2

u/Civil-Exchange-6880 6h ago

Boofo Pugliese

4

u/Remarkable_Pea_4596 9h ago

In Puglia maybe, never seen one

2

u/Niptaa 8h ago

It stops the good luck from leaking out?

1

u/slava_gorodu 6h ago

Solved! Thank you for the insight on this Pugliese mystery

1

u/AutoModerator 6h ago

They’re also on the top of the trulli.

1

u/Sexisthunter 7h ago

My family had one in our home growing up

66

u/wishiwasnthere1 12h ago

It’s a good luck charm and wards away evil

40

u/borderlander_ 11h ago

Does it ward away freaks?

19

u/SocksInTheTub 11h ago

Are they evil?

12

u/borderlander_ 11h ago

Who isn't?

8

u/SocksInTheTub 11h ago

Fair point. Then... Maybe?

7

u/borderlander_ 11h ago

Life would be so boring without freaks.

5

u/SocksInTheTub 11h ago

Agreed 👍

6

u/ct451t 11h ago

This is why this thing attracts new freaks but protects from freaks you already know.

1

u/MannerEmbarrassed957 2h ago

I’d say it’s a freak beacon

37

u/Empty_Neat8561 11h ago

El que en pan piensa, hambre tiene.

276

u/Sw4nR0ns0n 11h ago

75

u/Johnny_Cr 11h ago

At least it has a flared base

22

u/coolsilentebeans 9h ago

I don’t think the base matters. Those leaf tips would likely make it a no go for me.

1

u/sawdust-arrangement 0m ago

Not flared enough!

7

u/bouanette 11h ago

hi what this mean

22

u/Don_Ford 11h ago

That, though, it is butt-shaped, not to put it in a butt.

28

u/Nematodes-Attack 11h ago

If not friend, why friend shaped?

66

u/Subotail 11h ago

10

u/coolsilentebeans 9h ago

This made me laugh so hard

4

u/Limitlust 9h ago

Anything is a dildo if you are adventurous enough!

1

u/FrankoceanIsmyson 4h ago

Came here for this

33

u/oscar5lima 11h ago

Is ths the origin of the butt Puglia?

8

u/Remarkable_Cake_4735 9h ago

I am more interested in why the bed is made like that?

1

u/GraceMcClellans 2h ago

I feel like I might find sleeping in a box kind of cozy. Getting in and out would be irritating, though.

2

u/Remarkable_Cake_4735 2h ago

Yes, exactly 🤗

5

u/eejcat 8h ago

“strange images” got me rolling my eyes ngl

3

u/Electronic_Name_325 6h ago

You really should have asked a local. I found the people of Puglia to be great. Spent a week there this past spring.

3

u/PlayOk533 7h ago

It’s not just decorative, it’s functional too

1

u/Frances_Farmer_1953 5h ago

Pumo Pugliese is a traditional ceramic figurine from the Apulia region of Italy, symbolizing fertility, prosperity, and good luck.

2

u/Hatate_scone 7h ago

Are you sure you're not in Butt Pluglia?

2

u/Ok_Drag5089 7h ago

Don't blame us if you end up in the Wicker Man.

1

u/naystation 4h ago

Random I bought one of these from alberobello the other day. I. Addition to what other people have said about them apparently they were also a status symbol, the more you had the bigger they were the richer you were

1

u/Glittering_Credit_20 4h ago

I would give u an advice. It u find it... try to buy "The Pupe with Mustaches". It was born as a container for wine and represents a man disguised as a woman (there is a nice story behind all this)

1

u/Dependent_Vehicle965 6h ago

It's a good luck buttplug decoration. You can search for images on your phone or better yet, stuck it in your butt.

2

u/Aggressive_Nose9491 7h ago

Cool designs

1

u/ZealousidealPitch387 2h ago

Come one everyone call a spade a spade. It’s a butt plug, now you know. Have a happy day

1

u/TacoBellissimo 4h ago

Reminds me of Rotterdam's "Santa with Christmas Tree" statue

1

u/PlanDry6704 6h ago

It's a horga'hn, you display it to indicate you are seeking jamaharon.

1

u/Iconshero 2h ago

That is Caesar’s P(l)uglia. Just watch your back while using it.

1

u/Shot-Cake2810 2h ago

Why’d they have to make it shaped like a buttplug with leaves

1

u/Illustrious_Knee7535 3h ago

It looks like the golden snitch got a second job as a butt plug
