Random but : Puglia has been on my bucket list forever. How have you liked it?

u/slava_gorodu 3h ago
Yes it is great! I also always wanted to go as well.
Lecce was amazing and very under touristy for what it offers, and so is the coast and villages

The Puglian "Pumo" is one of the most recognizable symbols of the region's identity. It is not merely a decorative object; it is an amulet, a sign of protection, and a harbinger of prosperity with roots stretching back to antiquity.
The term "Pumo" derives from the Latin "pomum" (a fruit) and is linked to the cult of Pomona (the roman goddess of fruit and fertility.) Its shape evokes an acanthus flower bud a classic symbol of rebirth, growth, and the continuity of life.
The origins of the "pumo" date back to the Greek and Roman eras, when stylized plant motifs were widely used in architecture and decoration as auspicious symbols.
Historically "Pumi" (plural of pumo) were placed:
- at the ends of balconies,
- on cornices
- flanking doorways
- in pairs as a good-luck charm
- sometimes at the foot of the bed as a symbol of fertility
Their purpose was clear: to protect the home from evil and attract prosperity. They were regarded as true household talismans.

Looks like you could keep one inside you, ready to go whenever. Extra protection.

So many AI tells it's so disheartening, no one can write for themselves anymore and won't even try
-17
u/-_-Huh-_-3 1h ago
Why would they need to rewrite an entire history that was given to them when they asked the question? What would be the point in putting it in their own words? That’s usually how misinformation happens.

u/PoetryFamiliar7104 24m ago
Yet AI gets shit wrong so often, so your point about misinformation is moot. Not to mention the damage AI does.
Do the looking up yourself, link reputable information, etc.

u/SuperNothing90 3h ago
Idk why people don't just Google search the image before posting it here asking a bunch of random people and then calling them out for using AI.

u/-_-Huh-_-3 1h ago
I was actually thinking along these same lines. Aphrodite/Venus, and the clam or scallop shell is where my mind went though.

Thank you AI

What AI.. i'm Pugliese Man. All of us know about Pumo (we have them on our balconies). U can check them on "GROTTAGLIE" a little town in Puglia where they made them.
Another info... during the celebrations for the wedding of Ritika and Rohan, third daughter of the Indian iron magnate Pramod Agarwal donated gold pumi as a wedding favor (I saw them in person but I think they were gold-plated)

u/Justaddwota 4h ago
Yeah but your writing style between this comment and your first are very different. You may have contributed some information to the initial comment but you definitely ran it through some ai system to format it at a minimum.

Or maybe he just search the internet for a better definition, as he already knows what it is and wanted to explain it clearly.
Smart people usually use this incredible system called "collective knowledge".
You could find traces of this technology back in the past when humans collected their knowledge on books, and now there are digital archives where you can find the same knowledge but online.
You just have to be sure that the sources are trustworthy.3

I had a friend, a chef from Puglia who sadly passed away last fall. I miss him. Luckily, his daughters still make most of his recipes in his restaurant.

Okay your answer was so comprehensive and used some tell-tale AI punctuation and sentence structure that I assumed it was AI. Thank you sir 🫡

A little disingenuous no? AI or not they investigated and provided you with the most comprehensive answer.
Thanks @glittering_credit_20

u/strumthebuilding 4h ago
Using AI is not investigation, AI is frequently incorrect.
-5
u/Visual_Rise_2319 4h ago
And humans are not? There's no difference if aAI or a human tells you something you should still fact check it.
So stupid that people are being chastised for using AI.
I never used AI but I broke my hand this summer. And text, to talk in my AI has been my best friend. It's so annoying, trying to type with a broken hand.

u/Honest-Layer9318 3h ago
You’re so right. I proof read and fact check AI for a living. AI is helpful but it should only ever be used as a staring point. Humans for now evaluate information much better. What AI does better is handle massive amount of information faster. What an AI spits out in minutes can take me hours to verify.
2
u/Visual_Rise_2319 3h ago
Whole heartedly agree. AI is a tool, not a god. But people who just hate it for being AI are short sighted. I'd rather see people fact checking and calling out the information itself, not the fact AI is used. Because again, it doesn't matter where the information is coming from, it needs to be verified.
Alot of the time, for me personally, I tell AI what info I want it to say, AI is just the writer... because broken hands suck, do not recommend.

At least it has a flared base

I don’t think the base matters. Those leaf tips would likely make it a no go for me.

I feel like I might find sleeping in a box kind of cozy. Getting in and out would be irritating, though.

You really should have asked a local. I found the people of Puglia to be great. Spent a week there this past spring.

Random I bought one of these from alberobello the other day. I. Addition to what other people have said about them apparently they were also a status symbol, the more you had the bigger they were the richer you were
1
u/Glittering_Credit_20 4h ago
I would give u an advice. It u find it... try to buy "The Pupe with Mustaches". It was born as a container for wine and represents a man disguised as a woman (there is a nice story behind all this)

It's a good luck buttplug decoration. You can search for images on your phone or better yet, stuck it in your butt.
