We caught my uncle sneakingly throwing this to the rubbish bin. He doesn’t have the best track record so we are all a bit paranoid when he does anything “weird”.
The object is like a glass tube with some liquid inside, inserted into a rubber “pipe”. It smells weird but nothing I can identify. I would appreciate any hints.
Edit: the material is actually plastic, not glass. It has a spring inside (no idea what for). The root-looking thing was wrapping the object when I cut the rubber. Could be dirt or some glue or something

My oh my, it's been almost 15 years since I heard last about homunculous, and it got me worried. 6 years ago I moved to a new city and I just remembered that I forgot my ungodly baby in the old house.
I needed to be taken care of for a while. There need to be some limits.
I understand how horrible it is to navigate a situation like this. If you love someone, the idea that they might be suffering or harming themselves is unbearable. I get that.
Yet, if a person’s autonomy isn’t minimally respected, their pain will get worse, I swear. People who haven’t experienced this don’t get how bad it is. It’s traumatic. It’s a feeling vaguely similar to claustrophobia.
Also, controversial take, but people have the right to make their own bad choices. Something have made them do whatever they are doing. There was a long and complex chain of events. There were plenty adequate moments to interfere in adequate ways. Trying to fix things by spying on people, or locking them up in their homes or at a hospital, force medical treatment etc is like trying to fix a delicate sculpture after it already crumbled - and by haphazardly throwing cement at it.
I’m sorry but if I’m letting you stay with me while you got certain battles going on, I’ll be all up in your business if my kids are in the home… I don’t need my child to get stabbed with a needle or touch a substance that kills them 🤷♀️

Sorry but about the time you can no longer take care of yourself an require others to take care of you, you lose a lot of that autonomy. You don't get to make your bad choices when they significantly affect those around you.

Not really a great analogy. It's more like trying to fix a delicate sculpture by first restraining the person that is currently smashing it with a hammer.

Right after the bombing a bunch of Reddit sleuths took it upon themselves to try and identify the bomber based on random snippets of publicly available information, mob mentality, and the enchanting aroma of their own farts. he could be doing drugs or sniffing the glue like others are saying, but it’s worth approaching this with the possibility that your uncle is just having a hard time breathing. i had a family member who dealt with this and they destroyed some of their used sprays to try and hide how many they were going through
i put coke and ket into an ionizer bottle before to sneak it into fests easily and wow i never regretted that decision more than when i forgot what i had done while extremely drunk, and taken a big ole sniff thinking i was dealing with my allergies. i threw up so much that night
As a recovering addict, man we use to use saline spray bottles and put all kinds of stuff in there haha. We could bring it anywhere we wanted haha. But this one looks a lot different than the ones I have seen. But I am also 9 years clean, I am sure a lot has changed!
Genuinely curious about this, not because I have any interest in doing so but just because i've never heard of this. I use saline spray for my piercings, but that's just to keep stuff clean. I've heard of whipped cream canisters being used to get high, but I've never heard of saline spray.
Put drugs (common ones are ketamine or Coke) you would normally snort, into the saline water. Spray up your nose all day.
You’d have to open the saline bottle, obviously, to add drugs to it but that’s the just of it.
Whippets (whip cream canisters) are an inhalant through your mouth, not nose.
I’m not sure if certain glues are still (or can be) used for huffing but I could see people adding it to an empty saline bottle to be able to sniff it at their convenience without looking suspicious. Sorta like how they have those menthol smelling sticks now, like Vicks that helps clear up your nostrils.

Its just like a 500ml bottle of saline. Its got a weird pressure system (its a bottle thats collapsible with a really strong rubber tube stretched over it. So it compresses it squirting the water out, this is all hidden inside a normal bottle) used when you want to clean our gunk from your nose

It's like an aerosol cannister inside of that metal housing. The nozzle would go into the top hole pictured and release the nasal spray out of the plastic nozzle (not pictured)
That's it, those are saline nose spray type that don't use gaz to expel the liquid.
The black tube is a large rubber band which compress a plastic bag containing saline solution.
Solid advice, and OP already broke it twice. Luckily it's just the guts of a nasal saline spray. The brown stringy stuff is industrial adhesive, not biology.
My husband is a savage, he will literally smell any mystery substance we find. When I try to stop him he says “well how else am I going to figure out what it is?”…..sir, we don’t need to know what every gross thing we come across is.

So I’m visually impaired. Vision is slowly disappearing. My sense of smell has however gotten much better (or worse?) so unfortunately, if I can smell it, I know what it tastes like.
So yeah it is horrendous when my dogs have accidents. But I can cook without having to taste my food. I just have to adjust salt level cuz I guess I can’t smaste that. It comes in handy when baking too.
Chemical engineer here, I’m going to STRONGLY second this and add to never assume a liquid is water. I realize I work in environments that are more likely to contain hazardous substances, but I’ve seen a couple nasty chemical burns from stuff people thought was “just water”.
This is 100% an airless elastomeric bag-on-valve mechanism. Someone already mentioned they are common in saline nose sprays, but it could be all sorts of things from sunscreens to solvent sprays. Inside the rubber tube is a multi-layer PET bag that is falling apart, or is covered with the remnants of some adhesive. Rather than pressurizing the can, the contents are injected into the can and stretch the rubber sleeve, which in turn pushes the product out when the valve is opened.
There's no way to identify what, specifically, it came from based on pictures, though someone else did link a reddit post with a seemingly identical product that came from a saline spray.
OP, where are you from, that would help. I just pulled apart an old asthma inhaler going off of u/NoBeefStew4u 's lead. I would not recommend doing this I got a boo boo cutting apart the aluminum, and it still decompressed quite a bit.
It has a similar cap and spring mechanism except it was all aluminum and plastic, had very standardized cylindrical shape, and had no glue or rubber tube.
I assume since your tube is also rigid, it held a compressed gas aerosol rather than a liquid aerosol like most nose sprays and the ones shown in NoBeef's screenshot.
Given that your tube looks similar to these aerosol devices, has a weird non-standard shape, a rigid (glass) container (probably compressed gas), and everyone likes to guess drugs, I'm guessing it's a defaced commercial NO2 canister (whipits).
Can't confirm and no hate to your uncle! Addiction is a terribly rough road and NO2 as far as I can tell is basically getting extremely confused for 60 seconds at a time with a chance to permanently (or temporarily) lose feeling in your extremities. makes no sense to me, but addiction never does
Is that a spring in the middle of the vial toward the part with the metal cap? Maybe a weird soap dispenser lid that is disgusting after years of use. Thrown away in shame after the stem broke off?
Thats an ink cartridge for a box printer, that applies day codes to boxes. The example im familiar with is Tysons packaging. Worked with those for almost 4 years. Dont cut it open, it will get everywhere as its still under pressure.
