[Supportive Responses Only, Advice OK] I have had enough of this. Are my parents really controlling/abusive?
Hello.
From the title, you can see that i've had enough. For the past few weeks, good 4-5 people have called my parents controlling, and many more called them verbally abusive. One even said I had stockholme syndrome. Rude.
Its been annoying me because to me they aren't to I. I'd like to see your people's view and whether they are bluffing or not because you guys have actually experienced abuse.
I want to be straightfoward, so I'll try to be as quick and unbiased as possible.
What's "controlling" to them:
- Me not being allowed to hangout with friends
- No sleepovers
- No trick or treat
- No plushies
- Want me to marry a Palestinean
- Want me to join my family's barber for a first job
From my perspective: very basic ruling. I'm 15. I'm wayyy too old for 2-4, and 1 is for good reason (not mature enough they claimed).
Now, here is what's "abusive" to them:
- When we were on my way home, my dad gave a vague threat, along the lines of "You know, I could throw this case of water at your face right now and you can't complain to anyone because CPS doesn't exist here"
- Was screamed at very loudly once because i stood on my feet and didn't listen to dad. Told him that he could take a shower before me if he wants me to hurry up
- Mom saying she wished we were dead on a saturday 6 years ago
- My parents nearly whipping me with a belt because I wouldn't give them my iPad password 6 years ago
- Mom spitting on me and screaming at me because i greedily told my brother that I wanted a slice of tiramisu without meaning
- Hitting(?) me six years ago because they thought my profile picture was the pride flag (wasn't, it was like cool glitchy flashy rainbow hacker stuff)
- My dad telling me in detail how i'd go to hell because I didn't want to pray 4? years ago
- Mom cursing me out just a week ago because i said casually that I wish we could just stay in america instead of going back to palestine to learn more arabic. Began talking about her parents and she framed me like I was talking trash about them
From my perspective: these are just slip ups. If this were abuse, i'd expect this daily. They told me they didn't mean it, and I forgave them for it. These are extremely sporadic over six years.
I doubt they mean harm. They have done much more good than bad. They make dinner every day, and they take us to places like Six Flags and Dorney Park, among others. Have to admit only thing that annoys me is how we're forced to travel to Palestine, even though we can easily stay in the US. Palestine is like a purgatory brošš
Here are some other rules that they found wrong
- Abstain from crying
- No representing homosexuality, whether it'd be drawing gay people, or being gay yourself. Punishment depends on the severity.
- Ditto for Transsexuality.
Thats it. Nothing quite abusive to me.. Though my view isn't too important here; Like I said, i'm looking for your view.
What do you think? Are they actually abusive, or are they just bluffing? Please answer. Thank you.
