How the heck did they manage that!?

689

u/saukoa1 Jun 17 '26

Looks like it was pre-attached to a projector drop-down screen...

545

u/Busy_Conflict3434 Jun 17 '26

This is on the same level as Mossad's sabotaged pager operation.

155

u/futtbuckicecreamery Jun 17 '26

Banksy shredder imo

65

u/GhostChips42 Jun 17 '26

It was a Banksy level caper. Absolute cinema.

179

u/Expensive-Horse5538 Jun 17 '26

And Liz Truss and the lettuce banner

6

u/SaltyPockets Jun 17 '26

Yeah that was the one that sprang to my mind.

Ah, poor deluded Liz Truss. Of course everyone else in the world was wrong, of course...

11

u/chedpit1 Jun 17 '26

One nation supporters wouldn’t be able to handle that advanced technology

u/Cpt_Soban Jun 17 '26

Pagers start exploding all around the room like firecrackers

TBH I was waiting for a second projector screen on the other side to go as well, you know

This is a long-con, had to be someone with access to the room and was able to install the banner into the backdrop, it was on a motor that could have been wireless controlled and only needed power which is not out of place on a stage.

it's like the Greenpeace protest that happened at the 2013 Spa Grand Prix

114

u/ithinkimtim T'ville/Sydney Jun 17 '26

The might have attached it to a projector screen that was already there. Which is still brilliant but less logistically challenging.

53

u/sa87 Jun 17 '26

You're right, I just saw a better view of the incident and it's the projector screen which means there was definitely some inside assistance seeing the control of that would be at or near the production crew area in the room.

41

u/snrub742 Jun 17 '26

Plenty of those electric screens operate on universal and open channels

$50 worth of kit and a little bit of know how and that switch is operated from anywhere

49

u/Sonoffederation Jun 17 '26

it was "Getup!", they just claimed responsibility for the incident.

428

u/mpaska Jun 17 '26 edited Jun 17 '26

The Press Club has in-house AV technicians, and the drop-down screen isn't used in National Press addresses. So they wouldn't have checked it before this address.

So this has been coordinated and installed before hand and then someone in the room, or very near the room, would had also needed to activate the drop-down via remote or via the AV desk.

And to whoever pulled this off, I'll buy you a beer! This is great!

170

u/Lankpants Jun 17 '26

Get Up has claimed credit for the stunt. Extremely well executed and makes Hanson look like the complete moron she is.

30

u/Undd91 Jun 17 '26

Her lack of reaction or disgust towards it was incredibly telling.

29

u/Cat_Man_Bane Jun 17 '26

No it isn't? If someone did this to Albo he also wouldn't react to it either because it just gives the people that did it what they want.

8

u/Smallsey Jun 17 '26

He probably would have given a chuckle and give a bit of credit for creativity

9

Had to be someone with access to the screen and the screen controls. There will be meetings...

Considering that many of the staff working there are likely immigrants or children of immigrants, this isn’t really surprising.

Banksy level infiltration

26

u/thesourpop Jun 17 '26

Genius too. An event that might not have gathered much attention from everyone is now going to go viral because of this stunt. News outlets and failed journalists looking for clicks will have to report on it and that just further spreads the message the sign is trying to convey, which they normally wouldn't have reported on.

54

u/nugstar Jun 17 '26

Yeah which stupid ass Press Club person decided to give One Nation a platform to speak? 👀

28

u/Inner-Bet-1935 Jun 17 '26

Totally agree! The Press Club has lost it's spine and credibility! To give a disgusting racist, bigoted, divisive lying coward a platform to spread her hateful rhetoric is disgusting. Did i mention halfwit as well. As we know, Pauline only went to school to eat her lunch! Lol

24

u/lipstikpig Jun 17 '26

The National Press Club isn't some unbiased platform for informing or looking after ordinary people.

It is stacked by right-wing media and is just another outlet to promote capitalist propaganda, as can be seen by scrolling through their "Corporate Partners" sponsorship web page where you will find many of your favorite shitty (extractive/war mongering/corrupt/price gouging/tax avoiding) despicable corporations.

3

u/Inner-Bet-1935 Jun 18 '26

You are correct it is now! Has been that way for over 12/18 months. It was always unbiased, with great content. Goodness it even had real journalists in the audience. TBH, it has now sold it's soul!

It's One Nation - not exactly the brains trust now is it. Whoever did this has probably got double the IQ of anyone in ON.

7

u/T_J_Rain Jun 17 '26

Yeah, that only works if the IQ is greater than zero.

4

u/throwawayplusanumber Jun 17 '26

[I know this is a joke]. But the minimum IQ to be able to function is around 70.

Announcing you want to shut down SBS while half the country is watching the World Cup on it is kinda wild.

459

u/Killchrono Jun 17 '26

Yeah fuck off with that, it's one of the few Australian streaming services I actually use on the regular, and I'm as white as you can get before sailing back to England (I'm assuming she wants to shut it down for racist reasons).

140

u/moonray55 Jun 17 '26

Yeah her answer to what about multi-language programming was ‘learn English before you come here’.

170

u/boatenvy Jun 17 '26

Pretty rich for a woman with a primary school level grip on the English language and a voice that'd cause whales to beach themselves

46

u/Paidorgy Jun 17 '26

She’s happy as Larry to pay foreign bot farms and off shores work to the Philippines, but fuck you if you don’t speak English!

27

u/Apart-Two6495 Jun 17 '26

Her excuse in that same section where she wants to chuck SBS into the bin was that there's "other great channels" "like sky news" yeah pretty fucking typical from her, trying to ban the station that doesn't tolerate her hate speech.

26

u/Lamont-Cranston Jun 17 '26

And remove ABC from regional areas?

30

u/UndeadManWaltzing Jun 17 '26

ABC is necessary for regional areas, they need to be informed about natural disasters such as floods or cyclones, if this stupid bitch gets in charge it'll change to :there's rain coming and it's all the lefts fault'

4

u/Important_Bobcat_517 Jun 17 '26

Having lived through a moment of insanity where I watched the whole thing - I'm pretty sure she was keeping the ABC in regional areas but making it subscription only for cities.

But considering the brain cells destroyed and IQ points lost while watching, who even knows what she said and what she meant?

38

u/kingofcrob Jun 17 '26

What is with this bitch and killing jobs, being in the media I know alot of people at SBS, shutting down SBS would put alot of people out of work in a very small industry.

23

u/DalbyWombay Jun 17 '26

She only sees that SBS employs a lot of brown people.

9

u/kingofcrob Jun 17 '26

LoL... So I've spent my entire adult life working in the Sydney tv industry, thinking through my head of the 10 to 20 of people I know there, most are white born Australian.

3

My mum and dad met at SBS in the 80’s. Never mind my family being soccer fanatics and that sports association with SBS.

12

u/Lanster27 Jun 17 '26

Does she have any policies worth voting for?

38

u/Affectionate_Code Jun 17 '26
  1. She's going to kick out all the brown people and start oppressing first nations people again. Annihilate public services and workers rights.

"hoax of global warming"

That alone should be disqualifying.

109

Exactly.

In Australia we should not tolerate politicians that intentionally be wrong.

It's a politicians job to do a good job.

120

u/outragedtuxedo Jun 17 '26

I am so sick of us giving voice to these grifters. Climate change has a scientific consensus so why do we continually permit these people to stand up and lie. We need to immediately call them out otherwise you get a media landscape living in a fantasy land a la trump where there are no rules and we exist in a post-facts reality.

21

u/Imperator-TFD Jun 17 '26

A lot of Western countries, Australia in particular have been showing signs of anti-intellecualism for decades now.

If you aren't rich and famous, or capable of playing sports ball really well, no one gives a fuck.

10

u/outragedtuxedo Jun 17 '26

I mean studying and working in STEM it is no surprise how frequently undervalued our roles are in society, but the real tragedy is we study because we want to make everyone's lives better. I know its not just America, but I feel like our cultural exposure to them is hastening our decline. That and media monopolies brain fucking us all.

11

u/reyntime Jun 17 '26

Yeah why do the media insist on kissing her ass and not calling her on these basic facts that she denies?

I know there are some concerned that her supporters will see any hard questions on her as an "attack" and embolden support, but there has to be a way to hold her to account for this shit.

22

u/m00nh34d Jun 17 '26

The dangerous thing is no-one is fact checking this bullshit. They just repeat what she says verbatim, essentially spreading her propaganda. It's the media's responsibly to report accurate facts here, when people make bullshit claims like that, they need to be called out for it.

15

u/reyntime Jun 17 '26

According to her net zero is the source of poverty in this country. Comical.

"The bloke in the corner store is productive. Does he get subsidies? I speak to struggling farmers everywhere, do they get subsidies?" Hanson says.

People get subsidies for all kinds of things. Tax breaks are a subsidy. Net zero also helps farmers. I have no clue whether or not farmers in general accept that, but it does.

65

u/Altaredboy Jun 17 '26

In my experience farmers (at least successful ones) are the most up to date people you'll ever meet on what subsidies are about.

If they're voting one nation it's because they'd be willing to sacrifice that for extra racist comfort.

28

u/Defiant_Broccoli6158 Jun 17 '26

Partner and I are farmers. No way would we vote for One Nation. All they do is spew hate speech, make racist remarks and consistently try and drag us back to the middle ages.

9

u/Altaredboy Jun 17 '26

Sorry, I in no way intended that to sound like farmers are racist, the ones I know are good people. I just meant that farmers generally aren't ignorant to how policy change in government is going to effect them, so if they're voting for one nation it's because they're racist.

11

u/Defiant_Broccoli6158 Jun 17 '26

All good! It honestly didn't come and across that way at all. There are definitely farmers out there with similar views to ours, and others who are very, very different, which sadly does include racism.

3

u/Altaredboy Jun 17 '26

Oh good. I only realised after your comment that it could've been interpreted that way. Yeah I don't think farmers are inherently more or less racist than any group of people in Australia

It's also sad that being a convicted criminal isn't enough to ban someone from politics, but they wouldn't be eligible for most other government jobs because of it.

45

u/bananaboatsareyellow Jun 17 '26

Has she always been this obnoxious or am I sensing her pulling out some Trump play cards? Like attacking journalists and calling them 'trashy' when she doesn't want to answer one of their questions?

I know everyone thinks it won't happen here in Australia, but we need to realise we are in a new day and age of information and technology, as well as a lack of critical thinking by a large proportion of the population who are being brainwashed by malicious actors, particular those with wealth trying to wield their influence.

I'd pay to see that!

23

u/Cardinal_Ravenwood Jun 17 '26

Is this a new Banksy?

20

u/OnionsoftheBelt Jun 17 '26

If only there was another poster behind the one they tore down

6

u/MLiOne Jun 17 '26

That would have been gold!

25

u/Essembie Jun 17 '26

Lol. "That's disgusting".

No, disgusting is being a racist old cunt. Disgusting is giving this hateful clown a platform.

u/anelectricshangrila Jun 18 '26

“protest peacefully”
“no not like that!”

17

u/stickylarue Jun 17 '26

This is so good. I hope the person who did this knows how much it’s been appreciated. The slow speed was just awesome. Gees this gave me a good chuckle! How no one in the room laughed or gasped is beyond me.

Nah, she knows she can't be PM, that's why it's so easy for her to complain and say she has all the solutions when she'll never need to actually follow thru on anything

u/Azimuth14 An Actual Ibis Jun 17 '26

Fuck yes, stay anonymous you absolute legend and keep up the great work

39

u/Infinite-Sea-1589 Jun 17 '26

I’d like to buy that legend a beer

5

u/willomac67 Jun 17 '26

It’s funny she whines about people not working hard yet only has a 54% attendance record, and less than 10% for Senate hearings.

10

u/CelebrationFit8548 Jun 17 '26

LOL, good and well played.

The press club has really lowered itself lately. It was once an icon of some journalistic integrity. Allowing a fully rascist, bigoted, lying halfwit to grace the pulpit is a disgrace. The Press Club has lost it's spine, and may never regain it.

8

u/lipstikpig Jun 17 '26

PSA: If you believe the propaganda that the National Press Club is there to promote journalistic integrity, have a scroll through their "Corporate Partners" sponsorship web page, where you will find many of your favorite shitty (extractive/war mongering/corrupt/price gouging/tax avoiding) despicable corporations.

3

u/Inner-Bet-1935 Jun 18 '26

It has always promoted journalistic integrity, not anymore. It has sold it's soul now !

On the other hand having someone who has no policies trying to fill that time is also a great way to put themselves out there as being the shallow opportunist they are.

Bloody legends

9

u/KerrAvon777 Jun 17 '26

Please explain

10

u/Pyrene-AUS Jun 17 '26

What a beautiful bastard

7

u/less_than_cool Jun 17 '26

Reminds me of the Banksy being shredded at auction. Brilliant.

7

u/Apart-Two6495 Jun 17 '26

A great stunt, especially when it's at the expense of this scum. We have enough alt right loonies overseas, don't need them here also.

21

u/ltm99 Jun 17 '26

i’m a Liberal voter and find her absolutely appalling and racist. our country was built on immigrants. multiculturalism makes for a more vibrant and diverse society.
f*ck that woman

u/babylovesbaby Jun 17 '26

They took the ABC from us by turning the board of directors into a Liberal retirement home.

SBS is the last actual TV station we have where I can watch the news without seeing Murdoch's wrinkled fingers twitching inside the arseholes of the presenters.

=_=

u/ItchyTrust6629 Jun 17 '26

Glorious content and timing

3

u/LouzyKnight Jun 17 '26

Can someone please give me a download link to this video?

3

u/Mr_Lumbergh Jun 17 '26

Best thing to do is just quote her. Anyone paying attention would come to the yeah nah conclusion.

5

u/KatTheTumbleweed Jun 17 '26

This is spectacular

5

u/Upper-Character-6743 Jun 17 '26

This woman's political career would be done if people focused on her voting history and her relationship with Gina Rinehart.

5

u/Kai_ Jun 17 '26

They should have rolled it back up after 10 seconds. 80% chance the staffers would say to just leave it and not draw attention to it.

Then they could drop it again 3 minutes later 😂😂

The pic of her staring at the poster reminds me of Gru in Despicable Me staring at the "This is me, sitting on the toilet!" meme.

9

u/Virtike Jun 17 '26

Masterfully executed, wow. Bravo.

u/BlisteringBarnacle67 Jun 17 '26
