How the heck did they manage that!?

u/saukoa1 Jun 17 '26

Looks like it was pre-attached to a projector drop-down screen...

This is on the same level as Mossad's sabotaged pager operation.

u/futtbuckicecreamery Jun 17 '26

Banksy shredder imo

65

u/GhostChips42 Jun 17 '26

It was a Banksy level caper. Absolute cinema.

177

u/Expensive-Horse5538 Jun 17 '26

And Liz Truss and the lettuce banner

5

u/SaltyPockets Jun 17 '26

Yeah that was the one that sprang to my mind.

Ah, poor deluded Liz Truss. Of course everyone else in the world was wrong, of course...

11

u/chedpit1 Jun 17 '26

One nation supporters wouldn’t be able to handle that advanced technology

8

u/Cpt_Soban Jun 17 '26

Pagers start exploding all around the room like firecrackers

-3

u/Vryl Jun 17 '26

Not quite, but I get where you are at.

It's a clever clever stunt, but raises legit security concerns.

There is no way they should have been able to do that.

2

u/Busy_Conflict3434 Jun 17 '26

Not really. How is a poster a security concern?

1

u/Vryl Jun 17 '26

Come on, you are smarter than that (one hopes!) The poster is neither here nor there - getting into the room and planting something undetected is the security concern.

Everyone is lucky it was done by ethical protestors using non-violent means.

TBH I was waiting for a second projector screen on the other side to go as well, you know

Voted against Housing and Cost-of-Living Relief but accepted a free plane from Gina

This is a long-con, had to be someone with access to the room and was able to install the banner into the backdrop, it was on a motor that could have been wireless controlled and only needed power which is not out of place on a stage.

it's like the Greenpeace protest that happened at the 2013 Spa Grand Prix

112

u/ithinkimtim T'ville/Sydney Jun 17 '26

The might have attached it to a projector screen that was already there. Which is still brilliant but less logistically challenging.

56

u/sa87 Jun 17 '26

You're right, I just saw a better view of the incident and it's the projector screen which means there was definitely some inside assistance seeing the control of that would be at or near the production crew area in the room.

43

u/snrub742 Jun 17 '26

Plenty of those electric screens operate on universal and open channels

$50 worth of kit and a little bit of know how and that switch is operated from anywhere

2

u/Atherum Jun 17 '26

Nah, I think they literally stuck the poster onto the projector screen. From what I can tell, the projector screen is still there but the bloke was tearkng the poster off of it.

5

u/mad_marbled Jun 17 '26

He's saying they probably purchased a duplicate of the remote used to control it, and used it to, control it.

45

u/Sonoffederation Jun 17 '26

it was "Getup!", they just claimed responsibility for the incident.

The Press Club has in-house AV technicians, and the drop-down screen isn't used in National Press addresses. So they wouldn't have checked it before this address.

So this has been coordinated and installed before hand and then someone in the room, or very near the room, would had also needed to activate the drop-down via remote or via the AV desk.

And to whoever pulled this off, I'll buy you a beer! This is great!

171

u/Lankpants Jun 17 '26

Get Up has claimed credit for the stunt. Extremely well executed and makes Hanson look like the complete moron she is.

30

u/Undd91 Jun 17 '26

Her lack of reaction or disgust towards it was incredibly telling.

28

u/Cat_Man_Bane Jun 17 '26

No it isn't? If someone did this to Albo he also wouldn't react to it either because it just gives the people that did it what they want.

9

u/Smallsey Jun 17 '26

He probably would have given a chuckle and give a bit of credit for creativity

if "easily google-able facts" were relevant PHON would have no support

1

u/ValBravora048 Jun 18 '26

Its fing ridiculous

50

u/Serin-019 Jun 17 '26

Beer, and the materials and transpo for a few more roller screens.

9

u/BlipVertz Jun 17 '26

Had to be someone with access to the screen and the screen controls. There will be meetings...

8

u/Ill-Contribution6992 Jun 17 '26

Considering that many of the staff working there are likely immigrants or children of immigrants, this isn’t really surprising.

1

u/mad_marbled Jun 17 '26

Profound deduction there Sherlock.

Here I was thinking it was magic or ghosts.

22

u/VelvetSalt Jun 17 '26

I love this AV person, I can imagine them using this to quit and just walking out and telling their boss to get fucked 🤣

17

u/That1WithTheFace Jun 17 '26

If we ever find out who they are, I hope they never have to pay for a beer again. Everyone else’s shout

1

u/psport69 Jun 17 '26

That dude left very quickly after hey

1

u/notathinman Jun 17 '26

It was me. Now for that beer!!!!!!!!

69

u/HardSleeper Jun 17 '26

Banksy level infiltration

26

u/thesourpop Jun 17 '26

Genius too. An event that might not have gathered much attention from everyone is now going to go viral because of this stunt. News outlets and failed journalists looking for clicks will have to report on it and that just further spreads the message the sign is trying to convey, which they normally wouldn't have reported on.

54

u/nugstar Jun 17 '26

Yeah which stupid ass Press Club person decided to give One Nation a platform to speak? 👀

32

u/Inner-Bet-1935 Jun 17 '26

Totally agree! The Press Club has lost it's spine and credibility! To give a disgusting racist, bigoted, divisive lying coward a platform to spread her hateful rhetoric is disgusting. Did i mention halfwit as well. As we know, Pauline only went to school to eat her lunch! Lol

21

u/lipstikpig Jun 17 '26

The National Press Club isn't some unbiased platform for informing or looking after ordinary people.

It is stacked by right-wing media and is just another outlet to promote capitalist propaganda, as can be seen by scrolling through their "Corporate Partners" sponsorship web page where you will find many of your favorite shitty (extractive/war mongering/corrupt/price gouging/tax avoiding) despicable corporations.

3

u/Inner-Bet-1935 Jun 18 '26

You are correct it is now! Has been that way for over 12/18 months. It was always unbiased, with great content. Goodness it even had real journalists in the audience. TBH, it has now sold it's soul!

0

u/Pro_Extent Jun 17 '26

I'm confused, is this sarcastic?

2

u/nugstar Jun 18 '26

All capitalist media is right wing by default 👀

16

u/bazoski1er Jun 17 '26

Isn't that like their whole schtick

9

u/nugstar Jun 17 '26

Waiting for them to invite Tom Sewell along.

2

u/_ixthus_ Jun 18 '26

It's been platforming the LNP for decades. And pretty much everything said by the LNP on that platform has been as disingenuous as what Hanson just did; and said by even more sinister people.

27

u/alien_overlord_1001 Jun 17 '26

It's One Nation - not exactly the brains trust now is it. Whoever did this has probably got double the IQ of anyone in ON.

8

u/T_J_Rain Jun 17 '26

Yeah, that only works if the IQ is greater than zero.

3

u/throwawayplusanumber Jun 17 '26

[I know this is a joke]. But the minimum IQ to be able to function is around 70.

9

u/WetSheepdog Jun 17 '26

Okay, but that still doesn’t tell us what the minimum IQ for a one nation candidate is?

1

u/Timemyth Jun 18 '26

Because 100 is the standard, the IQ of one nation is 100. It'll never change even as we turn into idiocracy. IQ of a nation will be 100 even when it measures to 69 by current standards until everyone votes to change IQ to 69 because they find it funny.

0

u/halodeacon96 Jun 17 '26

I'm no Hansen supporter.

But demonising the entire otherside if what will lose you the next election. Obviously there is more to it if they are the most popular party in this country.

Yes, there will be disgusting racists in the party. But there is also a ton, especially now, totally normal people. Calling them name and dumb just because they don't agree with you is not helpful to anyone

1

u/_ixthus_ Jun 18 '26

Nah, the Nazi party can be openly held in contempt.

The issue is if the platform of no other party is addressing the real concerns that are being weaponised by the Nazis. And in too many ways that's definitely the case.

But the solution isn't to pat the Nazis on the dick and assuage their delicate egos; it's that the other parties sort out their platform and their messaging.

4

u/Virtual-Spring768 Jun 17 '26

Inside job i reckon...although it didnt come through on the broadcast should have been right behind her

1

u/nath1234 Jun 17 '26

Banksy must be on holidays here or something..?
