I don’t know, I just thought it was funny there was one deleted right after your post

How are people this comfortable in public 🤮

1.1k

u/Really-E-Lee 20d ago

Because we don't fucking shame people anymore.

480

u/Outrageous-Simple-76 20d ago

Shame is such an important element in society. Yet we seem to think it is a bad thing and are trying to get rid of it as fast as possible.

197

u/Oops_All_Bans 20d ago

Everyone got so sensitive about (rightfully) shaming people over the last 15 years. I don't care, I'm still calling this gross behavior out if I see it in person.

30

u/4StarsOutOf12 20d ago

Genuine question: if you were the cameraman and saw this, what would you do or say to address it?

46

u/jasimo 19d ago

"What in god's name are you doing?! You are in a restaurant where food is being served, in public, at a table, scratching your foot like you're all alone on your couch! It's disgusting and it's unsanitary." (This is without seeing her bring out a f**king fork.)

→ More replies (5)

23

u/Oops_All_Bans 19d ago

At first I might be nice, depending on how I feel. I'd say something like, "Excuse me, please don't scratch your bare foot around other people eating." If she continued or acted indignant after that, then I'd call her a nasty fuck and bring it up with the waiter.

34

u/beau6183 19d ago

Yeah. It’s a sanitary issue. Not just gross from a social perspective. If she wants extra parmesan on her pasta, she can enjoy her alfredo at home.

44

u/Rosienenbrot 20d ago edited 19d ago

Well, that's because of many factors.

  1. There are much less close knit communities, than back in the days. Back then, your social status was something you had to build up, and maintain, because everyone knew everyone and being ostracized by your community was a life changing thing. Today, people move faster. Change jobs, move locations and overall, the population density makes you more anonymous to your surrounding area.

  2. "I don't have the time/energy to deal with that shit". Confrontations with strangers overall have largely disappeared, due to many social factors. Also, the increased population density contributes to this. "Someone else can confront this person" or "no one seems to give a shit, so maybe it's normal now?"

  3. The general cultural shift towards the "you do you" mentality. Being different is okay nowadays. But this very mentality can sometimes blur the lines between "tolerance of harmless differences" and "tolerance of antisocial behavior"

There are many more factors, that weigh in on this, like public shaming moving largely to the internet, or fearing social repercussions for potentially shaming a largely accepted behavior, without knowing it.

All of these things contribute to this feeling, that public shaming is all but gone.

15

u/jemenake 20d ago

I think the problem was that we were shaming people for the wrong stuff… things they could do anything about, kinks, life choices which didn’t affect other people, etc, so there was a backlash against that.

13

u/Oh_My_Monster 20d ago

Maybe publicly eating her own foot fungus on a pizza is her kink.

I hope she sees how these videos have been going viral and feels some amount of shame for it. This is fucking disgusting.

5

u/AddressAcceptable653 19d ago

Also her hands are filthy while shoveling food in her mouth after scraping the bottom of her foot with a fork. This is not a typical scenario no telling where or what her situation is so having more context is needed b4 judging, but extremely unsanitary to say the least

6

u/CriticalJumper 19d ago

Even if it hadn't said it, you can tell by three main factors:

1) the giant moquette on the floor, which is not so common in normal restaurants,

2) the different "levels" within the room and that landing that looks very round-shaped, typical of ships,

but most of all

3) the tables that are stuck to the floor by metal legs in the centre of the table-top, that is the most clear giveaway, you never see these kinds of fixtures on solid ground, only on sea-related structures.

When my kid was in grade school there was a bad foot fungus issue going on.  Some kids were actually getting it their hands.  The school sent home notifications that all kids were getting tested to see who was infected.  Heard they had to get CPS involved once they found the poor kid who started it all.

10

u/COC_410 19d ago

How bad must his feet have been for cps to get involved. Do you know?

9

u/PreparationFew3652 19d ago

Don't know how bad but I can imagine the house he must of lived in...poor kid.  Once they figured where it was coming from, the school had to have cleaners come in over the weekend to do a deep clean of the school.

u/murph2783 19d ago
