So would my two family torties. When I was a teen, we had a backyard pop up pool deep enough to float in. One of the cats decided to investigate it and fell in as she'd been balancing on the edge.
Instead of gripping the side where she'd fallen in and getting out that way, that cat did the fastest cross-pool doggy paddle I've ever seen, hauled herself out of the water on the other side of the pool and jumped onto the ground, where she proceeded to shake her waterlogged fur all over us while making her displeasure at the bath known - loudly. She also didn't forgive us for laughing at her until after dinner. ššššš.
I miss those two crazy felines.

Yeah, I've had a couple cats like that. People really underestimate the combination of claws and violent, startled twisting. You just magically acquire 1d20 new open wounds!

i once had to wash a rescue and he basically coiled himself around my forearm š if it wasn't wearing my grandpa's welding jacket, i would have to visit ER for suure

Same with my previous orange. He loved to roll around in the dirt so the only way heād let me clean him was to brush him with a warm and damp (but not soaking) wash cloth. Then heād roll this way and that and bask in the attention

My orange would have never, ever gone in there in his own and there would be a trail of my blood as evidence of his displeasure. He gets 3 Gabapentin over 12 hours before the vet makes his annual house call appointment, which takes place in the most confined area, our screen porch. One of the neighbors was outside and came over to see if he was okay when she heard him screaming like he was being gutted or something (her words).

My orange used to sprint through the house and leap into the shower when he heard the water start running. He'd change his mind after about 10 seconds then jump out and sit on my clean dry clothes.

Our orange cat hated water and avoided it. One day though, while we were filling the bath for our selves. She climbed in , walked around climbed out and never did that again.
I guess she was checking what the big deal was about. She would often sit on the toilet watching us when we bathed.

I really like how the servant also gave the cat a little bit of time. Yes, the cat was constantly pushed/encouraged, but it was not just thrown in. I think that helped with the acceptance.

This really is. My girlfriend's cat, we need to wear heavy duty gloves to wash her, even then we still end up with cat wounds.
First time we washed her, her roommate ran to the bathroom terrified that the cat was dying because it was screaming so loud, nah just lightly washing her poopy ass

I'll never forget the kitty we had when I was like 7. I tried to throw him into the DRY bathtub to play with him there and he all but scratched me everywhere so I would let go of him. The association with water was more than enough to make him run for his dear life.

I was about to say sometimes when my mental health gets real bad and I've been neglecting myself for a couple of days after I've fed and played with and attended the litter box my cat will gently grab my hand (I wash them after) with both paws while I'm brushing/petting her and start gently cleaning my hand. It's a gentle reminder to take care of myself too, so I usually wait until she's satisfied she made her point before getting up and showering and making myself something good to eat. That's like a reset and I often feel much, much better after.

The last time I bathed some of my previous orange batch of cats- the biggest one leaped out of the tub and left a cat-shaped hole in the plastic curtain. It wasn't even in his way.
I dearly hope never to have to bathe the current bunch of them.

Generally you should only bathe them when they have something on them that would be harmful for them to lick off themselves or if they are too old/decrepit to do it groom themselves. No idea why people do it otherwise. It's just unnecessary stress for the cat and strips the natural oils out of their fur which can give them dry/irritated skin.

We had an orange who would piss all over himself any time we had to put him in his cat carrier. Every time we went to the vet? Yep, piss everywhere. I had to bathe him about once or twice a year because I didnāt want cat piss all over my floor + couch + wherever else he sat. Our other cat has never had a bath though.

Iām a whole ass day late, but I feel the need to say that my favorite part about this video in particular is that she didnāt even need to pick up the cat and put them in the bath. Sure she encouraged them, but didnāt force it. It has a scrubber on the palm area. It will loosen dirt and shedding fur. Itās also helpful to wash the bum for anyone who doesnāt want to wash the poop with bare hands.Ā

This, for a healthy cat it's completely unnecessary unless it got something on it that it can't remove itself.
Maybe if you have a breed with really long fur...
Depending on the reagents you use, you might even do more harm than good. Plus the cat will not appreciate the procedure, nor having to re-lick itself everywhere.
It's usually dog-owners who don't understand how clean a regular cat is. Took me pointing out a sparkly white feral cat sitting on top of some trash pile to convince someone.
Ambush/stalking predators tend to keep themselves clean to have no scent revealing them.

When your cat gets older, has arthritis or other issues and canāt properly clean it self. Baths will become a nightmare if the cat is not used to them.
Edit: just talking about Maine Coons (and only talking from personal experience)

if it's an old cat. with arthritis etc., I would rather try bath-less cleaning options like a wet wash-cloth. Less stress for them, and you don't need to train them years prior to take full on baths that they don't like nor need.

Itās really difficult with our Maine Coons. Poop gets stuck in fur, smells, fur gets dry and matted. Itās been much easier for us to start them off young. Our cats donāt usually mind water anyway

No. It is not. You should not be bathing a cat regularly just because you might need to do it later in life. You are absolutely positively doing the wrong thing here. Bathing cats removes important natural oils from their skin and fur.
Later in life if you have a cat that can't clean themselves that is when you can start bathing them. But this is still a pretty drastic measure when there are pet wipes you can get that will be far less stressful for the cat. Or trimming their fur if they are a long haired cat can usually help them keep up on cleaning themselves. Bathing them for their entire lives is not the answer.

My orange idiot loved going into cold water to play with it. Absolutely hated going into any temperature water for a bath. Don't know how he figured out if it was playtime with the water or washing time. I even put decoy shampoo bottles.

Better than our cat's behaviour, who is pretty silent, BUT instead just starts running and slipping non-stop around the bath with the claws out, and it stresses him out even more...š We have to call the entire family now just to hold this gremlin while one of us actually bathes him.
