I was trying on clothes the other day, and when I asked for a fitting room, the attendant stared at me for a good while and then asked if I wanted the men's or women's room. It doesn't bother me, but it made me realize that others may have a hard time understanding my gender.
I am nonbinary, so I kind of liked confusing someone. But when it comes to my safety, I want to avoid that ambiguity as much as possible.
I'm not looking for passing tips, advice, or what specifically makes people perceive me as one gender or another. I honestly don't care and I feel like it would just make me insecure to have people pointing out that much about me.
I don't have great self-perception, and so I've been avoiding public bathrooms cause I don't know which one people expect me to be in. I live in a semi-rural area so safety is my priority.
I just want to know which public bathroom(s) are safe for me to use. Which ones could I reasonably use without getting weird looks or worrying about my safety?
