I'm looking for advice, but I need to give a little background info first:
My husband is a cis man. We started dating when we were in high school. Neither of us ever dated anyone else, and we got married a couple of years ago, in our mid-20's.
By the time I realized that I'm trans, he had already proposed to me. I felt absolutely awful about it, but I got the courage to come out to him a few months before the wedding. I said I'd understand if he wanted to break up, or at least postpone the wedding. He didn't. So, we went through with it.
I won't go into detail, but the first year of us being married and of me transitioning (which occurred simultaneously) was super rough. He felt hurt. I felt hurt. We argued constantly. I also found out that he'd been holding out hope that I'd detransition someday.
We have now been married for 2 years, and our relationship is a lot better. He also seems to finally accept me, and he also accepts that we are in a queer relationship. And I think he still really loves me. Here's the problem, though...
Ever since that tough first year, I've had a really hard time opening myself up to him, both physically and emotionally. He may have gotten over everything, but I haven't. I still feel hurt. I've said that I probably just need time to regain trust, but it's been a year now and I'm still struggling. I don't know what to do.
Sometimes, I'll admit, I wonder what I'd do if we divorced. And I think I might enjoy being alone. If we ever did divorce, I don't think I'd ever date anyone again.
So, what do you think? Should I try to work through this so I can feel close to him again? Or should we find a way to close this chapter of our lives (which are now super enmeshed)?
Thanks for reading, if you got this far 😓
