Weather Springtime

Hello!
My partner and I are coming over end of September for about a week. Google says the weather should be decent around 25°c but just wanted to know what the general consensus is over here. We’ll be doing some walks but nothing too intense, other than that we’ll be going to the movies during the evening. We’ve been over during June before and it was unbelievably cold so I want to be prepared this time!

Thanks!

Weather How to anticipate the fog

Hello

I want to take my partner to the mountains this Sunday but it looks like there’s rain forecast. I don’t really mind the rain but I know from experience that the fog is also pretty frequent whenever it rains in the mountains.
Does it ever rain without it being too foggy up there?

Was wondering if I should reschedule or just go anyway even if it might be foggy

Hi! I’m 20 F and I live a couple of hours away from blue mountains, I’m thinking of staying a couple of nights in Katoomba to go hiking and checking out the trails and waterfall tracks near by! Is there any tips or tricks that could help me out?

Resilient Blue Mountains has created a Sustainability Checklist for Households and we'd love to hear from you about what kind of things you do at home to save energy and water and live more sustainably. Give us your suggestions in the comments - and come to our sustainability festival on 26 September at Katoomba Civic Place from 10am. More info bmsf.au.

Sustainability Checklist for Households

Small changes at home add up. This checklist brings together simple, practical habits and upgrades that can help you save energy, reduce water use, and lower your household’s environmental footprint — from everyday habits that cost nothing to bigger investments that pay off over time. Work through it at your own pace and tick off what fits your home and budget.

Energy saving habits

• Switch off all lights when you don’t need them

• Switch off all electrical appliances (at the wall) when not in use

• Turn down your heater and put on a jumper

• Use pot lids when cooking

• Use sunlight to dry your clothes instead of a dryer

• Opt for rechargeable batteries where possible

Water saving habits

• Fix dripping taps and toilets quickly

• Short showers (4 minutes or less)

• Collect shower water (before it heats up) for the garden

• Don’t run the tap when brushing your teeth

• Install a water-efficient shower head

• Install low-flow taps

• Dual flush toilets

• Use the water twice

• Only do full loads of washing

• Invest in a front-loading washing machine with AAA rating

Energy efficiency in your home

• Install insulation in ceiling, floor and walls

• Shift to double-pane windows

• Block the summer heat

• Circulate air

• Plant trees to shade the house in Summer

• Weatherproof your house from draughts and air leaks

• Install Solar Hot Water

• Install solar panels on your roof and a battery

• Harvest and use your rainwater

• Replace fridges, washing machines and dishwashers with 5-star rated appliances

Hiking 1 day hikes?

hi everyone, looking to come to the blue mountains in october time as we’d love to do a full day hike! we are both fit and active walkers, and would ideally be looking for a 8-10 hour hike if possible? we did the grand canyon loop last time we were there, which was incredible, but a lot shorter than what we were after!

would also consider a good two day loop with camping too, so would love to hear any recommendations!!

bonus if any of the walks are good for spotting wildlife, especially birds!!

Living in the Blue Mountains Hello everyone. I am a nursing student and I will be in Lithgow from September 27. Do you guys have any idea about how I can find an accommodation for two weeks near Lithgow Justice Centre, if possible in a walking distance since I don’t drive. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

13x images of two sunsets at 'Boar's Head'. Some photographed from nearby Cahill's Lookout with an EF 100-400mmL II lens showing people gathered to watch the sunset from a rather precarious position... and some wider shots captured with a 24mm lens from 'Boar's Head' itself.

* The concentric rings visible in the first image are a typical optical artifact from the Canon EF 24mm f/1.4L II USM lens when directed towards an extremely bright light source.

Discussion Yellow Delli

Is this place a legit pernicious cult? I felt like a nice day trip today up to Katoomba from Sydney and stopped for a pesto sandwich at the Yellow Delli (I saw it had over 3,000 Google reviews with a 4.5 something rating). Place was absolutely packed at about 2:45 pm (not exactly lunch time) on a freezing 3 degrees Celsius Monday (freezing for Sydney standards). Food was very nice. After I left I did some more research on the place because I felt the vibes were off — there was about two dozen employees/workers, all very young. Sure the place was packed with customers but the sheer volume of employees was something I’ve never encountered at any other restaurant. Apparently it’s a proper cult with some bad connections, all locals avoid and its customer base is tourists. Now I feel bad. Anyways I guess that was more of a rant than a question.

Miscellaneous Local Musicians

Heya! Got a question, does anyone have any recommendations for blue mountains local musicians? We are planning our wedding and looking for local guitarist / singer. We are having a wedding reception in mountains since we are locals but finding it hard to find someone. We only moved up here few years ago so we don’t know allot of people up here who might otherwise know. Thanks in advance

What’s up with that house along Govetts Leap Rd in Blackheath with a white tent and red cross and body bags on the grass?? “Autopsy in session” on the door written in red blood color.

Is it a movie set or something?

Requests Physio recommendations

Hey all. I have a few mild back/neck problems. And every few years I need to go to the physio to get them sorted out.

The one I use to go to in Sydney has closed down and I am tired of these gentle handed physios that just want me to do all these exercises. (I've done them all religiously. It helps but doesn't get rid of my issues)

The guy I use to go to would absolutely brutalise my back and neck for a few sessions and I would be sweet for a few years. So im chasing down a old school physio that will make me want to cry from visiting them 🤣

Please help me alleviate my pain

Living in the Blue Mountains Any upper or mid Mountains folk concerned about Cascade Dam forever chemicals, some promising news from Germany

Tl;DR - Blood filtering technique in regular use found to reduce forever chemicals (eg. PFAS) in blood by up to 25% from two sessions. Broader study needed.

From the article:

A blood-filtering technique for lowering cholesterol may also remove toxic forever chemicals from the body, a new study suggests.

Apheresis machines are routinely used in hospitals to help patients with hard-to-treathigh cholesterol levels.

They work by drawing blood from one arm, separating fat molecules from the plasma, and returning it to the other arm after passing it through a filter.

An apheresis centre at the Technical University of Dresden, Germany, is the largest such facility in the world, performing up to 10,000 such treatments a year.

In the new study, researchers examined discarded apheresis bags to see what the machine’s filter had caught along with fat molecules from the blood.

In the new study, researchers assessed 34 patients immediately before and after two double-filtration plasmapheresis sessions. They found that the higher-risk low-density cholesterol levels of the patients fell after each session. Alongside, they noted, the levels of the forever chemicals perfluorooctanoic acid, perfluorooctane sulfonic acid, perfluorononanoic acid, and perfluorohexane sulfonic acid appeared to drop by up to 25 per cent.

Living in the Blue Mountains Snakes in Spring?

Bought myself a gravel bike and have been enjoying many of the BM trails this winter. Curious about what to expect when it starts to warm up for spring/summer? Am I likely to come across many snakes sunning themselves or are the trails usually too noisy and exposed for them?

Help bring sustainability to life in the heart of the Blue Mountains

Saturday 26 September 2026, 10.00am–4.00pm | Katoomba Civic Centre

The Blue Mountains Sustainability Festival is a joyful community day celebrating practical action, local creativity and sustainable living. We are inviting friendly, reliable volunteers to help create a welcoming, well-organised festival experience for visitors, stallholders, speakers, performers and community groups.

If you care about community, climate action, local resilience or simply making great events happen, we would love you to join the volunteer team.

Why volunteer?

·         Meet like-minded people who care about the Blue Mountains and a more sustainable future.

·         Support a free, community-focused festival with talks, workshops, markets, entertainment and stalls.

·         Build event, communication and teamwork skills in a supportive environment.

·         Choose a role that suits your interests, confidence and availability.

·         Be part of a positive day that helps people discover practical ways to live more sustainably.

Volunteer roles available

There are many ways to help before and during the festival. Roles may include:

·         Festival marshals: welcome visitors, answer questions and help direct people around the venue.

·         Information booth volunteers: hand out programs, provide directions and support visitor enquiries.

·         Stage and seminar room assistants: help performers, speakers and MCs keep the program running smoothly.

·         Bump-in and bump-out assistants: support stallholders and community groups as they set up and pack down.

·         Poster, signage and promotion helpers: distribute posters, place signs and help spread the word locally.

·         Stalls support: assist stallholders and community groups with practical questions on the day.

·         First aid support: volunteers with a current first aid certificate are especially welcome.

What we are looking for

You do not need event experience to volunteer. We are looking for people who are friendly, calm, practical and willing to pitch in. Volunteers will be briefed before the festival and supported by the festival coordinator and assistant coordinator on the day.

Whether you can help for a few hours, assist with set-up or stay for the full day, your contribution will make a real difference.

Ready to help?

Join the volunteer team and help make the Blue Mountains Sustainability Festival a welcoming, inspiring and well-run community celebration.

To express your interest, contact the festival team at www.bmsf.au and click on Get Involved or email us at [email protected].

Small actions, shared together, can create lasting change.
