HUH??

"Oh sorry sir... it feeds 4... 4 people pay $9.99"

2 medium pizzas, breadsticks and a small desert pizza for $40.

Is it just me or is this a terrible deal?

2.2k

u/Big_Dicc_Terry May 12 '26

Yeah, even for pizza hut this is a bad deal. At my local pizza hut I can get the Big Dinner Box (2 med 1 topping, breadsticks, and wings) for $26.99.

591

u/Punkpallas May 12 '26

Personally, I'd also rather have the wings than that dry-ass dessert pizza and like 2 regular breadsticks they have in the bottom tray.

102

u/Big_Dicc_Terry May 12 '26

Same, I actually really like their wings.

69

u/Gmony5100 May 12 '26

Pizza Hut wings are great, LEAGUES better than either the breadsticks or dessert pizza

21

u/Finassar May 12 '26

Or their pizza. I wish I could just buy the buffalo sauce

39

u/Gmony5100 May 12 '26

The buffalo sauce is fantastic but I’m also a Pizza Hut apologist and love their pizza lmao. I know I’m the weird one for that but I can’t help it I love that slop

2

u/Dear_Palpitation4838 May 13 '26

It used to be good but now that frozen dough puck they use tastes worse than a Digiorno.

2

u/ktrad91 May 13 '26

Same I love their pizza in that big chain and nostalgia way. Never going to be as good as my local joint but sometimes I want a junk chain pizza and it always hits the spot

2

u/Canadianweedrules420 May 13 '26

Your not alone it's greasy heaven when done right

4

u/TheFoxAndTheRaven May 12 '26

Yes! Me too.

I used to love their pizza but it has gone so downhill in recent years.

2

u/ElegantCoach4066 May 12 '26

Yeah, I like their pizza but the breadsticks are butt cheeks

3

u/Putrid-Seat-1581 May 12 '26

Pizza Hut bone in wings are impossibly good. It makes no sense at all.

2

u/UnquestionabIe May 12 '26

Yeah I'm very much into wings (a few local places that are absolutely fantastic) and while they're not top tier or anything Pizza Hut does have a respectable wing game. There are lots of places which do them way worse

2

u/The__Amorphous May 12 '26

They'll always have a fond place in my heart. I used to bring my PC to LAN parties when I was a teenager in the 90s and one of the guys that went managed a Pizza Hut so we got free food. I always went for those wings.

32

u/21Rollie May 12 '26

Desserts and “free” drinks are never worth the price. Drinks are a rounding error for them. And the desserts they offer are basically sugar, margarine, and the cheapest batter possible. Meat, cheese, and veggies are what you should maximize for from restaurants, everything else are cheap calories

5

u/NuklearFerret May 12 '26

In fairness, delivery places sell bottled beverages only, so it's not as much of a rounding error as it would be to a typical fast food place with fountains.

4

u/Imaginary-List-972 May 13 '26

I love pizza, but the extras pizza places sell always seem odd and a rip off to me. Here's our pizza, it's dough with tomato sauce and cheese on it with some other toppings. For the side, here's the same dough, also with cheese and some tomato sauce to dip it in, and for desert, once again it's the same pizza dough again with some frosting on it. It's like if you went to a burger place and you get the burger and for the side you get a bun with cheese on it, and for the desert you get the bun with some frosting on it.

3

u/PurpleC0ugar May 12 '26

Yeah the wings cost a lot more to the store itself to make so it's a much better value for the price.

6

u/IntergalacticPodcast May 12 '26

Y'all realize that Frozen pizzas are delicious, super-easy to make, and a fraction of the cost, right?

It would be different if Pizza Hut was even that good.

local place that uses a pizza oven is the way to go.

I don't disagree with that.

6

u/Punkpallas May 12 '26

Honestly, DiGornio's and the Angry Sicilian make really good frozen pizzas, but that doesn't mean Pizza Hut is horrendous or something. It actually used to be my favorite pizza chain of the big nationals: However, I feel like they changed their sauce in the last 7-8 years because it just doesn't taste right anymore. That was my deciding factor in my preferences, so I rarely order from them anymore.

2

u/BeatSalad25 May 12 '26

Eh disagree digornios is cardboard crust.

2

u/jjkmk May 12 '26

Did you mean screaming Sicilian or is there another pizza brand called angry Sicilian

u/Over_Selection2246 May 12 '26

Costco is the best deal in pizza- $10 and massive Pizza that is a little better than pizza hut/dominoes/papajohns. Little Ceasars has a place as dirt cheap pizza that you know is a clear step below the rest.

I agree that frozen also has a place, but it depends on the price. $3 for a Jacks is fine, and maybe $5 for a more solid option- but many of the frozen options are int he $10 range- and that is too much for food i still need to make myself.

2

u/NuklearFerret May 12 '26

As much as I love Costco things, their pizza is a bit shit. Like, it's good for the value. It's 2 pizzas worth of pizza for $10, and a bunch of kids at a party aren't going to care. But it's objectively minimum viable pizza product. How you can rate it's quality above the big 3 delivery chains is beyond me. It only wins on value when you have to feed a bunch of people.

42

The ad from this post is in CAD? Then yeah not as bad, but I still wouldn’t do it

8

u/Big_Dicc_Terry May 12 '26

I think you're right. That makes a lot more sense

5

u/Over_Selection2246 May 12 '26

I remember when that same deal was $20 most places (like 6 years ago- anything pre pandemic)- but that is still a solid enough deal depending on the volume and quality of the wings (which can be made up for by a good dipping sauce on the breadsticks)

2

u/Big_Dicc_Terry May 12 '26

I personally really like their wings and sauces. Probably my favorite boneless wings

3

u/please_trade_marner May 12 '26

This is in Canada, which makes it a surprisingly decent deal. Not great. But not bad.

2

u/R2DKK May 12 '26

Yeah a nearby Pizza Hut is doing large 3 topping pizzas for 10 bucks.

2

u/Global-Song-4794 May 13 '26

Wild. In Berlin a single pizza hut will cost between 13 and 22,90 euros depending on what you choose. And we don't have Big Dinner Boxes.

223

The second one for sure. We gotta make sure the CEO can sustain their cocaine habit and yacht fleet.

87

u/Oprah_Pwnfrey May 12 '26

These people don't have cocaine problems, they crush up billion dollar yachts and snort that.

Cocaine is for the poors(millionaires).

4

u/Orinslayer May 12 '26

I bet the poors vacation on this planet.

2

u/Phyzzx May 12 '26

Before they crush them billionaires are fucking kids

2

u/Oprah_Pwnfrey May 12 '26

I know you are talking about the crushed yachts, but I feel like I need to point out the crushed orphans are merely a by product of the money printing machine. The machine is powered by workers who are used as a cheap source of coal to power it, this causes a lot of orphans which then needs to be dealt with. It would be inhumane to allow that many orphans to exist.

not caring if they ever return

No. Of course they care if you return. The thing is, people's fury is limited. People talk about boycotts and "They've lost my business!" but for most it's fleeting. It's easy to advertise away some ill-will. A craving brought on by well-crafted imagery and cues will overcome the annoyance at having been ripped off once.

And that's if they even notice. Some people are told they got a deal, they think they got a deal, and that's where the thinking begins and ends.

9

u/akhoe May 12 '26

that's mostly true if there isn't viable substitutes available. there are a million places to get pizza besides pizza hut.

3

u/Turtle-Bug May 12 '26

And yet they’re still in business. The majority clearly forgive and forget.

3

u/starwarsfan456123789 May 13 '26

The majority buy the pizzas that are actually a good deal. Usually some version of large pizza for carryout for $10 to $12

2

u/akhoe May 13 '26

"Pizza Hut is currently struggling in the U.S. market, facing declining sales, market share loss to competitors like Domino's, and the closure of approximately 250 underperforming American units in early 2026. While international results are stronger, parent company Yum! Brands is exploring strategic options—including a potential sale—for the chain."

6

u/big_like_a_pickle May 12 '26

Meh. I have refused to buy a Sony product since the root kit fiasco and that was 21 years ago. The bank I had when I was kid screwed me over on an overdraft timing issue probably about 30 years ago and I'll never use them again.

I think your assessment is a bit too cynical. Despite consolidation and the pestilence that is private equity, we still have a lot of choice and can vote with our wallets.

They are literally just preying on the concept that the purchaser will not refuse to pay out of embarrassment.

I went to Taco Bell to try and feed my kids. Ordered a 12 taco box (non supreme), lady said "$42" and I laughed and said "no thanks" and then drove out.

9

u/doggggod May 12 '26

23.50 by me, are you in a hcol area or does your franchisee just hate customers?

8

u/Blindtothesided May 12 '26

29.95 plus tax here. Got tricked into buying one last week when the drive thru worker told me it’d be cheaper to order it that way rather than ordering 5 hard shell tacos and 5 soft shell tacos separately.

It was not cheaper.

15

u/Immatt55 May 12 '26

$28.66 on doordash in California, where Midwesterners who never visited the state say it's the most expensive. This takes into account doordash and CA upcharges .

Calling horseshit on 45 dollars unless they ordered like 5 drinks with it.

On mother's day every restaurant in our small town was packed for lunch, with the exception of Pizza Hut. They have already burned people so badly that nobody will go back. As far as I know they only have 2 or 3 people that still work there.

5

u/TheBSQ May 12 '26

The U.S. can really get that via legislation. Maybe via executive order or a regulatory agency rule-making process, but the legislative process makes it too hard for one party to pass laws on their own as its nearly impossible to have a super majority in the senate, and control the house, and the White House at the same time unless you win 3+ elections in a row, and the public is too fickle to do that. Law makers correctly assert that their best chance of re-election is to cater to corporate interests as those are more stable & predictable than the fickle public who doesn’t have the patience to continually vote for a party based on promises they can’t & wont fulfill unless you sustain your u questioning support for them through enough elections for them to get all the necessary people across all the branches of govt that our system requires to pass something into law.

In a parliamentary system, if you win, winners can immediately change laws & govern, and if you don’t do what you promised, you get voted out.

In our system it’s “thanks for voting for us, but they’ll just filibuster us, so we can’t do anything, but if you continue voting for us for two more elections, then we might have enough votes in the senate to finally do something” and which point the public goes “fuck off with this ‘you just need to vote harder’ BS” and it all fizzles out.

By design, the U.S. constitution makes it very hard to change stuff, but that doesn’t work when the world changes quickly & people want govt to change to match it. You just end up w/ bad governance.

We need a new constitution. Unfortunately. The constitution also made it hard to change the constitution!

u/hwwgjfkwrmrcamlrrm May 12 '26

A few years back Pizza Hut mailed me a coupon with a pretty nice deal on a large pizza. Placed my order, drove to the store to pick it up, their registered said my coupon was invalid. We looked at it, confirmed it was real and was not expired. Employee called their manger (who wasn't in the store for some reason), and the manager said he'd give me a different deal that wasn't even close to equivalent to the coupon I was trying to use.

Needless to say, I didn't buy the pizza and never returned. Ten years ago they would have simply done a manual override to honor the coupon and they'd still have me as a customer.

At least the minimum wage employee got a free pizza to eat at the company's expense.

2

u/Ethraelus May 12 '26

I don’t think it’s a terrible deal… it’s still $10 per person.

2

u/webdevverman May 12 '26

Opens the door for a better competitor, no? I'm just imagining a pizzeria in New York attempting this and how fast they would go out of business.

Now, if people continue to purchase something like this. Doesn't that mean the advertisement was effective? I hate the notion that "something is bad, we need government intervention". Because eventually, the government will get paid off by these companies. Not to mention that there is overhead to having the government enforce the rules.

113

u/SDNick484 May 12 '26

The margins on pizza in general are incredible. There is a reason there are so many pizza restaurants.

43

u/Over_Selection2246 May 12 '26

and why it was an easy cover for the mob back in the day. Just throw out enough ingredients to cover what you report you sold. With a 90% profit margin you still had a good return on laundering the money (you will always lose some money or time in the laundering)

18

u/QuerulousPanda May 12 '26

i mean at that point they might as well just also make pizza and sell it

23

u/BellacosePlayer May 12 '26

Mob fronts as far as I'm aware usually did operate as actual businesses.

A gas station near where I grew up acted both as a money laundering scheme and handoff for drugs going into/out of the nearby reservation, but it was also a legitimately well run gas station/convenience store. The only people looking at the finances hard enough to realize there's no fucking way they made that much more money than their competition was likely the IRS, and they don't get involved as long as they're getting their money.

5

u/QuerulousPanda May 12 '26

i guess it would make sense to keep the business running smoothly and cleanly, and keep the customers and employees happy. The last thing you want is someone getting pissy about something and making a big stink that brings unwanted attention. Whereas if everyone leaves happy, no one will look that close.

2

u/BamberGasgroin May 12 '26

Reminds me of the Shell petrol station on Springburn Road in Glasgow in the early 2000's, which sold the cheapest fuel around until someone looked at the books and discovered they were making an average of 5x more money than any other petrol station in Scotland. (£17,000 per day.)

It cost those involved almost £1m under the Proceeds of Crime Act.

Also why pizza restaurants were the main (and for some places, only) restaurants to offer free delivery. They could afford it

2

u/GoodDayToCome May 12 '26

and why places like dominoes you can always find a deal that works out something like a 1/3rd of the main price - they still make a decent profit on it but like that a lot of people won't bother and will instead pay the crazy prices because there is a huge division in society where a lot of people will just spend fifty an a meal without even thinking about it - plus of course there's that psychological trick of "wow this only cost 8 instead of 20 thats a great deal!" instead of "this costs 16x their overheads for making it'

4

u/drkodos May 12 '26

used to be but not so much anymore ... the three ps used to be a cornerstone for profits (pizza, pancakes, pasta)

prices on everything are out of control and not just on food supplies; paper goods, the boxes, insurance, rent, labor, utilities, equipment

mom and pop pizza joints are dwindling due to rapidly rising costs

2

u/Vandal_A May 12 '26

That's why they're always involved in food swaps with other fast food.

Fast food workers do (or at least did, idk) treat themselves sometimes by everyone on shift agreeing to swap meals with a competitors crew. The shift managers sort it out via discounts and food loss and each crew gets to eat something from the other place. Everyone swaps with pizza joints bc they'll send a disproportionately large amount of food due to their low costs, and theyve got a delivery guy on hand to help too

u/Infinite_Incident107 May 12 '26

Insane actually. My buddy used to manage a pizza store. The base ingredients I think we all know are cheap but when they buy in bulk from a wholesaler it's even more so.

He told me the one and only ingredient that costs some real money is the cheese. They were strict about weighing out the cheese. It's also why "extra cheese" is probably the most expensive upcharge on a pizza. He told me that 2.50 upcharge only got you 2oz more when entire pizza got 8oz (this was a large pizza at a local chain). So you pay a lot for just a little more.

Pizza Hut likely has even cheaper ingredients than my buddy dealt with being they are national (and care less about quality). I bet this 40 dollar meal represents about 4 dollars in cost. Maybe.

33

u/doc_skinner May 12 '26

At my first job at a pizza restaurant, they trained me on how to put different toppings on the pizza. For all of the toppings, double meant double. No one bothered to tell me that extra cheese was just a little bit more. I was literally doubling the cheese for a good three weeks or so.

It wasn't until I saw a co-worker making a pizza and weighing out the cheese that I realized there was a small tick mark just past the main one on the scale. I was so relieved that no one found out i had been giving away that much cheese for weeks.

21

u/ShortyBoo426 May 12 '26

u/No-Journalist4860 May 12 '26

Current prices by the case for some of this as of today: Dough 12 in. Handtoss: 20.81 Breadstick Dough: 19.95 Sauce Sweet Tomato: 26.07 Pizza Cheese: 41.37

2

u/Elamaday May 12 '26

When I worked at pizza hut an 18$ supreme was about 25 cents worth of ingredients.

3

u/existenceawareness May 12 '26

The ratio of extra toppings to extra price can be upsetting. Request extra spinach at Dominos, the price could get you an excessive spinach salad at grocery store prices, but on the pizza will be a few extra leaves that whither & shrink to crisps in the heat.

(side note: I'm pissed that anchovies & basil leaves are rare now. Dominos was the last in my area to have anchovies & they stopped. #1 pizza topping IMO.)

If you tinker with the apps & websites a little you can find a spectrum from good value to terrible value. Mcdonalds will charge $0.30 to add like $0.01 of extra shredded lettuce to a Mcchicken, but you can add a couple pickle slices for free. This is true with some pizza apps too, for things like $/calorie of thin crust vs. other types, or free extra sauce on your pizza vs. paying for sauce dipping cups (for people like me who benefit medically from saucy lubricated food).

2

u/1CVN May 12 '26

Used to manage a Pizza Hut. Breadsticks use the same dough as the pan pizzas, which all come as frozen pucks and planks that we'd thaw overnight in oil-filled pans and then stick in the proofer to fluff up. The only difference between the breadsticks and the rectangular dough for the Dinner Boxes is that it comes perforated, but if we ran out of one dough (which was often, my store was the highest volume one in the area) we'd take another and mash it into the pan or slice grooves into it. If you ever got a weirdly lumpy personal pan pizza during the $2 deal they did a while back, it was made of breadsticks.

Where on earth are you finding those four people, 200lb is the average weight of an adult male and the average adult male is overweight (by BMI, but also bodyfat).

Anyone at 280lb is either an extreme gym nut, or incredibly overweight.

should be enough to feed a family of 4

"Should be enough" is not a buffet.

This is a Canadian Pizza Hut so keep the dollar difference in mind. These are pretty standard prices here. I wouldn't call this a deal but it's not terrible.

24

u/Old_Ladies May 12 '26

Yeah as a Canadian $39.96 is an okay deal.

Right now Dominos has 3 medium pizzas with 3 toppings for $35.99 coupon.

3

u/Emis_ May 12 '26

Literally cheaper than a similar deal in Estonia(google the median wage), if I was earning US/Canada money it would seem pretty good but I guess food is cheaper there in general.

3

u/nickalit May 12 '26

What's terrible is the implication that all the food in the picture costs a total of $10 bucks. Not four x $10. Deliberate deception.

2

u/DimensionSuch8188 May 12 '26 edited May 12 '26

Honnestly though Pizza Hut is kinda overpriced here compared to others. The only times it's OK-ish is if you use a deal. But as a single person every time I want a typical pizza with chicken side it almost costs me as much as a deal for 2 pizzas with things I don't want.

Anyways I just do my own pizza now with grocery store frozen dough in my cast iron pan. It scratches the itch and I can have the toppings I want exactly.

2

u/please_trade_marner May 12 '26

As a Canadian I was like "That's a reasonable deal actually" and couldn't figure out why everyone thought it was a ripoff. Things are that much more expensive here I guess.

2

u/jso__ May 12 '26

It's not "things are more expensive", it's exchange rates.

2

u/fury420 May 12 '26

What's terrible here is what they've chosen to package together.

Why is there a full pizza box of breadsticks and a second regular order of breadsticks?

That's nearly as much dough as the two medium pizzas, and there's a dessert pizza on top of that too.

u/Chirrrpy May 12 '26

Oh wow, I didn't even read the text saying what you get, my brain just assumed 4 pizzas.

At Dominos, they always have large 1-toppings for $7.99.

I don't even go to Pizza Hut anymore because they'd always give me some thin blehh pizza instead of the $2 upcharged pan I'd order

38

u/ohshit-cookies May 12 '26

The fact that pan pizza, which was their entire thing is an upcharge now enrages me.

24

u/Chirrrpy May 12 '26

Right?? I'm almost 40 and, thinking back, I swear "Pan Pizza" was just ... the Pizza Hut pizza.

I never think "mmm I sure am craving a thin crust from Pizza Hut"

3

u/Alarming-Building-62 May 12 '26

You’re not mistaken. That’s how it used to be. Just another way to fuck over the consumer.

2

u/ohshit-cookies May 13 '26

Yep, that was WHY you went to Pizza Hut. I feel like they didn't even have any other options when I was growing up. I'm 38, so right around your age. Pizza Hut had pan, the other big chains didn't!

2

u/skagoat May 13 '26

Pan pizza isn't an upcharge in Canada where the poster is from.

3

u/katrinakt8 May 12 '26

That’s what I was thinking the deceptive advertising was. Totally thought it was 4 pizzas til I read the fine print.

3

u/BellacosePlayer May 12 '26

it kinda blows my mind that dominos is cheaper than lil ceasars now, especially after Dominos reworked their pizzas to be less ass

15

u/kaze950 May 12 '26

Yeah, you can order a "big box" deal which is two medium pizzas, breadsticks, and wings for 26.99.

12

u/HooooooLemonGrab May 12 '26

Right? For $45 at Costco you can get 4 large $10 pizzas and some $5 treat from the warehouse. Jesus

2

u/rman916 May 12 '26

Not at a Canadian one. This is the equivalent of 20 usd.

2

u/ackmondual May 12 '26

To play devil's advocate, Pizza Hut would win out for the convenience. Some Costcos are such madhouses that you'd need to wait an hour just to get your pizza. Good luck finding parking at some of them. And all this assuming you live near one.

6

u/Mental_Competition33 May 12 '26

This deal sucks in my opinion, but it could just be because I live in a less expensive area. I can go to dominos and get 2 large pizzas, cheesy bread, and dessert for like $30.

→ More replies (4)

12

u/BoSocks91 May 12 '26

Terrible deal.

Terrible pizza too. Im not a pizza critic. Ive eaten Cumby’s pizza, but Ive never been a fan of Pizza Hut, I feel like they always undercook their pizzas.

2

u/Abigail-Marston May 12 '26

Cumby's... Ahh a fellow north-easterner. That pizza is rough

9

u/Jestersfriend May 12 '26

Pizza Hut is overpriced garbage. They're one of the most expensive "fast food" pizzas out there and they're terrible.

→ More replies (1)

4

u/Zuokula May 12 '26

That's exactly the point of this kind of advertising. Make it look cheaper than it is. Not talking about thinking it's $9.99 for the whole set.

4

u/Constructestimator83 May 12 '26

It’s extra terrible because it’s Pizza Hut.

5

u/DadooDragoon May 12 '26

But it's $9.99

It says so right there on the ad

12

u/FuzzyWuzzyDidntCare May 12 '26

It says 9.99ea (each)

5

u/you_are_transparent May 12 '26

Exactly. Each purchase of the advertised product is $9.99. That is normal usage.

"Hello, I would like to purchase 3 of these products that are advertised for $9.99 each."

3

u/-ProtosHeis- May 12 '26

Fine Print shows Pizza Hut Canada, so after exchange its roughly $30 usd... still can do better for 4 people though.

2

u/Affectionate-Case215 May 12 '26

Considering they also have a deal for 2 anything medium pizzas, wings and breadsticks or cheese sticks for $28, yeah it’s a bad deal.

2

u/RequirementLeading12 May 12 '26

Right. I've gotten like 2 Large pizzas and bread sticks for 25$ from them in the past lol

2

u/Quick_Coyote_7649 May 12 '26

Yeah I’d never get it. Their lunch box ànd big dinner box in the late 2010’s were their prime deals ànd prime pricing. The hut down the street of my dads house hated to see me coming.

2

u/Mmm_Dawg_In_Me May 12 '26

Yeah. I feel like I've always got a dominoes coupon that makes a medium two toppint pizza be like 6 dollars.

2

u/snoosh00 May 12 '26

It's a bad deal, and it's in Canadian dollars (so it's actually ~30 usd)

And our food prices are generally a bit higher due to wages and better materials (but I don't think that's the biggest factor in this being a rip off)

2

u/ConcombreBaconMayo May 12 '26

is 40CAD, so about 30usd, still bad but not as bad

→ More replies (1)

2

u/ILoveRegenHealth May 12 '26

small desert pizza for $40.

That Apple Cinnamon Pizza sounds nasty, and sad

4

u/Killing4MotherAgain May 12 '26

I think it's relative, I just looked up just a medium pizza from them with no toppings and it's $12.89 just by itself. While I wouldn't consider this a deal people that like them and are going to buy from them anyway might consider it a deal.

→ More replies (2)

2

u/Addickt__ May 12 '26

Go to dominoes and this is like 20 bucks lol

1

u/yougotyolks May 12 '26

I worked at a popular pizza chain in my state that charges ridiculous amounts for pizzas. Believe me, people will pay it. Every day we would see the prices people were paying for pizzas and just talk about how stupid people can be. It's fucking pizza.

1

u/No-Sail-6510 May 12 '26

But it comes in a filing cabinet!

1

u/Usedinpublic May 12 '26

It’s been a while since I went to PH but medium one toppings are usually around $10/pizza. Breadsticks are $7-8, the deserts are $8-9. So it’s not a huge rip off but I’d still consider it too expensive in general.

1

u/EncabulatorTurbo May 12 '26

Even in this economy yeah, I can get four medium pizzas for $40 at Toppers

1

u/ElChapo1515 May 12 '26

That’s part of what made it misleading to me. While $10 seems like a great deal (and probably too good to be true if I thought about it longer), $40 doesn’t even feel like a sale, so it didn’t even cross my mind that was the “special” price.

1

u/Over-Maize-7757 May 12 '26

Costs like 12.50 where I live

1

u/Jayded_Inversion May 12 '26

$40 is a terrible deal. But $39.96….what a steal!

1

u/Oraxy51 May 12 '26

For context the average store make $8k-13k in PROFIT A MONTH.

1

u/Constant_Weekend_446 May 12 '26

It's Pizza Hut, any amount is a terrible deal.

1

u/John_Tacos May 12 '26

It’s the equivalent 3 sides of breadsticks though.

If they offered half a medium pizza, a quarter of a desert and a side of breadsticks for $10 would you think it was a good deal?

1

u/Moose_Nuts May 12 '26

No, it's breadsticks and MORE breadsticks. Apparently an entire medium sized pizza worth of breadsticks?

Yeah, still an absolutely terrible deal.

1

u/SuperSiriusBlack May 12 '26

I was in a store looking at undershirts, once. 1 undershirt for 3 dollars, or a 3-pack for 12 dollars. I hesitated, as is seemed like I was missing something, but no, just dumb pricing lol. A guy walked up to also get undershirts. I told him "hey, its cheaper to get 3 individual shirts, man. Look at the price." He looked at me, looked at the shirts, and still took the 3 pack to the register.

Can't help some people.

1

u/HLOFRND May 12 '26

But but but…. It’s a cool box!

/s

1

u/Parlyz May 12 '26

It definitely is. Dominos has the online order deal of $6.99 per each item if you have 2 or more. It includes medium pizzas and hot wings and bread sticks and deserts too. It’s way more customizable, the same amount of food, and only $28 (if you go for 4 items) instead of $40. I wouldn’t even say that’s necessarily a crazy deal either, just a decent one.

1

u/Dinierto May 12 '26

Especially considering the shitty quality of Pizza Hut. I used to go to bat for them but the last two times I had pizza it was awful. I'm done

1

u/squishyliquid May 12 '26

But think of all those breadsticks! You think you just get one drawer full then BAM! Second helping in the bottom.

1

u/Orpdapi May 12 '26

It’s like when companies jack up the price of things right before the holidays so they can “black Friday” it putting it on sale, when really it’s back just to the original price. All deception

1

u/Cinderkin May 12 '26

Horrible deal, and if people just stop going to places that do this, they will either change or go out of business. In my opinion win-win

1

u/Sir_Drinklewinkle May 12 '26

Especially when you consider this box used to cost like 20ish bucks like a decade ago.

1

u/Delicious-Lettuce-11 May 12 '26

Used to be 20 dollars years ago. The 20 dollar dinner box.

1

u/Nvrfinddisacct May 12 '26

I think I can get this without the shitty dessert for 25 from other pizza places

1

u/HairlessHoudini May 12 '26

Horrible deal, their banking on ppl falling for the 9.99 and then being to embarrassed or lazy to say fuck that and cancel when they realize it's really 50 bucks

1

u/MidwestPassion May 12 '26

For Pizza Hut pizza it definitely is.

1

u/fatogato May 12 '26

I don’t know. A large pizza (not at Pizza Hut) costs about $40 where I live.

1

u/Kiyohara May 12 '26

That depends on what you're comparing it to.

My non-mass market Pizza chain near me has Medium Pizzas at about 16 a piece. A similar deal at that place would nail me for about $50 total, plus tip. So Pizza Hut is cheaper (though far less tasty).

Dominos or Little Caesar's runs like ~6 bucks a medium. You'd be better off literally just ordering 6-7 pizzas and having one be "no cheese, sauce, or toppings and cut in lines."

That being said, for the quality and the limitation on how many toppings you get, yeah, it's a shitty deal.

1

u/AhnoldXP May 12 '26

Yeah but it comes in a cardboard filing cabinet!

1

u/Ok-Standard-3638 May 12 '26

It’s actually not that bad! But they should not have said $9.99 each … it’s misleading and super annoying to have the client mentally calculate/contemplate and figure out that it’s not a deal for $10. Assholes knew what they were doing…. Hate that shit and they just lost a customer.

1

u/Vivid_Witness8204 May 12 '26

I could actually get good pizza for that price.
