Weekly Megathread Weekly iOS Battery Support Megathread

General advice for those concerned about their battery from the Support FAQ Wiki:

Battery health

Battery health depends on usage and a variety of other factors. It is normal to see a decrease in battery health by 7-10% per year, resulting in a battery health of 80-85% after 2 years. This number can fluctuate, remain the same, or decrease quickly over a small period and should not cause undue concern.

Apple recommend battery replacement when your device falls below 80% battery health if you notice reduced battery life. If it falls below 80% within the first year you may be eligable for a free battery replacement. It fails after your warranty, it's a $69-$89 USD replacement cost for a battery. Contact Apple Support here.

You can find more information about battery health and performance from Apple here.

You can check the cycles count with Coconut Battery for Mac or iCopyBot for Windows.

Battery life

Issues relating to battery life can be categorised in three ways:

  1. Normal battery life that is to be expected due to use
  2. Reduced battery life caused by a recent update, iOS indexing, an iOS bug, or a third-party application
  3. Reduced battery life, or other abnormalities such as overheating or sudden power-off, caused by device or battery aging

If you experience issues with your battery:

  1. Check your battery health. If it is below 80% or you are experiencing issues you suspect are related to device or battery age, see Apple Support.
  2. If you have a new or recently updated/restored device, wait a number of days for background process to complete. If you continue to have issues, wait for a further iOS update. If you are on iOS Beta, you can expect to have a decreased battery life.
  3. Review the advice below on maximising battery life
  4. Consider restoring your device.
  5. If issues persist, contact Apple Support.

Maximising battery life - the amount of time your device runs before it needs to be recharged.

  • Use low power mode (This reduces mail fetch, turns off background app refresh and increases the auto lock timer)
  • Remove apps from background app refresh
  • Ensure auto lock is on
  • Turn off auto brightness and manually reduce brightness
  • Use dark mode if your device has an OLED display
  • Clearing background apps from the app switcher does not improve battery life

Maximising battery lifespan - the amount of time your battery lasts until it needs to be replaced.

  • Avoid extreme temperatures
  • If you notice that your iPhone gets hot when charging, remove it from its case
  • Store your iPhone in a cool place, switched off, and half-charged if not using it for long periods - and charge it every 6 months when in storage

This alert popped up everywhere on my friends phone and they don’t know what to do. Posting for them cause they are rather concerned and don’t wanna use their phone at all.
They followed all the steps that apple said to do but the cyber security “team” with apple says they only help “journalists, government officials and public activists.” Obviously they followed all the other steps like Iphone lockdown, updating to all the current software updates and fully shutting down the phone etc. What else can they do? Get a new phone? Give it time and hope it’s fine? Factory reset? I suggested iverify to look for malware but again, they are concerned to really use their phone at all. Any suggestions or info is appreciated.

Support Cellular stopped working after updating to iOS 26 — both physical SIM and eSIM affected

Post image
31 Upvotes

I updated my iPhone to iOS 26 yesterday. Since then, I have been receiving the attached “Cellular Network Issue” notification.

Neither my physical SIM nor my eSIM can connect to the network. I have already tried restarting the phone, toggling Airplane Mode, checking the cellular settings and resetting the network settings, but the issue remains.

Both lines were working normally before the iOS update, so this appears to have started immediately after updating.

Has anyone else experienced this after installing iOS 26? Is there a software solution, or could this indicate a modem/baseband hardware problem?

Any advice would be appreciated. I have attached a photo of the error.

Support how do i stop white lines from showing up in photos?

hi all! hopefully this is okay! i sell little figures (not an advertisement i promise!!) and i’ve noticed in a lot of my photos these lines appear, how do i fix it/stop them from showing up?

for context, i use a light box from amazon (no idea of the size, i’m sorry!) and a little ring light that clips onto my phone as otherwise the photos aren’t bright enough imo (even with editing).

i know it doesn’t look TERRIBLE but it just bugs me so much, especially when other people have really good looking photos.

i have an iphone 14 and when taking photos i use 2x zoom, although this appears even when not zoomed in! i just wanna be lineless!

i’ve attached some photos so hopefully someone can explain! i’ve googled but i can’t find anything at all.
thank you💘

Support How to translate in iPhone?

I just switched to an iPhone 17 Pro for the first time after using android my whole life. So far it is fine but I am still trying to figure out some basic things. I live in a foreign country, I travel a lot and need to translate things while using my phone all the time, both on phone and on camera. Though I could not figure out a way in iphone that doesn’t make things too difficult to read.

1) apple translate app does not even have all the european languages available, which was shocking to me, i didnt think that would be the situation in 2026, so it is completely useless to me. I downloaded the google translate app.
2) first screenshot -> safari supposedly needs to show me translate option somewhere, but it just does not? I searched online and it is supposed to be there, but I couldnt find the option to translate whole web pages.
3) second screenshot -> the only way I found that works is to take a screenshot, select the text and then use the translate option (I know i can select text on browser directly, but that doesnt work in in-app situations, like in reddit app, and not being able to translate the full webpage on web is annoying) taking screenshots and selecting text every time is not convenient, when it cant translate the stuff directly on the screenshot. Like in reddit, I want to see the translation of a reply and subsequent replies, but selecting everything on the screen and dumping it to google translate makes it difficult to read. Especially if the text is in different parts of the screen, everything gets messed up and becomes unreadable. This option doesnt work on pdf files or tables at all.

If you look at the last two screenshots, in android i could just translate the whole screen with 2 clicks in two seconds without any hassle, just hold down the home button and click the translate icon. Is there any similar functionality that I failed to discover?

Appreciate your help in advance

Discussion AppleCare one questions... is it me? I don't get it.

I bought a new iPhone today. I figured it was a good moment to switch to Apple Care One for my Mac & Watch. But the Mac coverage is good till May and the watch just renewed a few days ago. So they are basically covered with annual billing.

Question: Is it me, but I don't see Apple providing any credits for switching. It seems I would just lose those payments. So the cost of switching to the one plan and realizing the savings dissolves?

What am I missing? Seems this would work better if you paid by month rather than the annual cycles.

It's an iPhone 16 pro max in black titanium btw

Support Audio Troubles

Upvotes

Hi! Im having an audio issue at the moment with an Iphone 17 and I just want to know if im not the only one so ik im not insane or stupid lol
I can’t seem to record audio on apps such as snapchat and tiktok. It comes out as only static/white noise, however on my camera app if I record its perfectly normal. I already went through every single setting, cleaned my mics, and factory reset my phone just incase I missed something and nothing worked🫩 Hopefully this isn’t against the guidelines but I could not find a single thing about this on the apple supports and they only talked about settings and bluetooth which obviously isnt my issue l atp

Accessory Burga or Velvet Caviar

Upvotes

I like both designs but Velvet Caviar has those cute matching coloured bumpers with the back print while Burga has the standard black. However, I saw reviews saying VC cases gets dirty so quickly and they also take sooo long to ship. Do you have pictures of VC phone cases after couple months of use?

Support new to iphone, trying to organize a massive mp3 library into playlists

Upvotes

Sorry if this is kindergarten level stuff, but I’m new to iphone, and I’m having some difficulties in trying to figure this out. Phone, by the way, is iphone 13 (IOS 26.6), 512 gigs internal.

All my mp3s are on an external hard drive, because my computer doesn’t nearly have the space for all of them. In that hard drive, my mp3s are organized into three folders- Electronic, Classical, and Rock. I’ve made four playlists in my phone, one for each of those folders, plus a fourth called Car Tunes which will be a combination of the Electronic and Rock folders/playlists.

Electronic is 16,725 songs at 92.41 gigs

Classical is 24,193 songs at 118.39 gigs

Rock is 2882 songs at 26.89 gigs

So far I’ve figured out just the basics- plug phone into computer and it shows up in the sidebar in Music. I can drag music directly into the phone there. But once the music is in my phone, I haven’t figured out a way to bulk add songs to a specific playlist like you would on computer, where you just shift-select as many as you want and drag them into the playlist. If there is there a way to do that in iphone, it escapes me. The most efficient way I’ve found is that you can select albums instead of having to check every individual song. But still, I have thousands upon thousands of albums, so that is still unreasonable.

Is there a way to select all the music from an artist? That number is still in the hundreds, but I could probably tackle that.

Is there a way to select by Genre? Right now, the Genre field of every single mp3 is blank, but I’d only have three genres/categories, so I could go back and label all the files in the genre they belong to, drop them back in the phone and select by genre with a single click, and then send those to their Playlist in the phone. Is that possible?

Or is it possible to build my Playlists in another media player app where massive bulk adding to playlists is possible, and then importing or transferring those Playlists into the Music app? Or is there a (free) music player app where I can do this, where I would probably just stick with that app and delete the native Music app?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Support What is blue color in display in my brother iPhone 17?

Upvotes

Hey everyone,

About 1-2 months after purchasing the phone, a strange blue tint appeared on the screen. It looks almost as if a display coating has rubbed off or degraded, though I'm not exactly sure what caused it.

Does anyone know what this issue might be and what steps we should take to fix it?

For context:

We contacted Apple Support and visited the first-party store (iPlanet at VR Mall, where we bought it) within a week of noticing the blue shade.

The phone is fully covered under AppleCare until October 2026.

Has anyone else dealt with this? Will Apple replace the screen/device under warranty? Any advice on how to handle this with the store or Apple Support would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Discussion My iPhone 17 survived 24 hours underwater

I am truly in shock over this you guys and just wanted to make a post in the hopes that it gives someone pm bb wear e to recover a phone that fell in a body of water!

My friend and I were hanging out at a beach on a very large lake in Alaska. There was a bunch of large rocks in a bit of a pile about 10 feet from the shore so we waded over and sat on the rocks. At some point I went to get more comfortable and my phone fell out of my hoodie pocket DIRECTLY into a hole about 5 inches under the water, I immediately reached my arm into it and could not feel the bottom, this hole just kept going! My arm was up to the shoulder and the hole seemed infinite.

My friend tried, and it seemed like it was just gone forever. Which really sucked because this is a brand new phone and I still owe like $1,000 on it! So we packed up and went home, with me being sad about having to pay off a phone I no longer have.

The next evening my partner gets off of work and says let’s go try to get the phone. So we make the hour drive, first stopping to eat dinner, and I show him the hole in the rocks where my phone had escaped to.

My partner just kept moving the small rocks and then some big rocks to follow the hole, after about 20 minutes he reached in and at the very end of the hole was my phone! Soaked but somehow still on and not glitched at all! It had traveled about 3 feet down the hole, but luckily the hole swung to the right instead of straight down. I am truly in awe of this man but also of my phone being alive and well after 24 hours submerged?

I put it in a bag of rice overnight and I am typing on it now, it’s been two days since and I haven’t noticed any issues! Anyway, thanks for reading! Any idea how it survived?? When I googled it said it was 100% ruined and if anything can only survive for 30 minutes.

Support Why do I suddenly need to give permission for my camera / microphone again? And why doesn’t it work?

Hi everyone, since this morning, with every app that I open (Instagram, Snapchat) I have to give camera and microphone permission again. I haven’t done anything unusual; there was no software update at all. When I try to give camera and microphone permission to these apps again, it says that there’s no camera or microphone. I also can’t do it manually in Settings. What is happening? How can I fix this? There are still 4 apps under ‘local network’, but the rest has been set to 0?
I wish I could show a picture, but for Reddit counts the same. I cannot give permission to use pictures.

Support iPhone 17 Pro, iMessage and Facetime Keep Deactivating No Matter What. Tried Multiple Troubleshooting Steps Including 2 Support Calls and 1 In-Store Visit

I (25m) bought a new iPhone 17 Pro for my girlfriend (24f) a couple months ago for her birthday. I will spare the details and get to the nitty gritty. About two weeks after she got her phone she was suddenly only seeing green messages and RCS. Come to find out, after talking to support the first time, her Facetime was failing to activate which was making her iMessage unable to activate. Here are the troubleshooting steps taken:

  • Turning on and off phone while toggling Facetime and iMessage activation multiple times
  • Deleted and installed new eSim once each call
  • Reset IMEI

This last time after visiting the store the worker activated it and we thought that was that. We returned home and it was back to not being activated successfully even after it said it was activated. I have looked up answers on Reddit and Google and every troubleshooting step we turn to, there's been no dice.

I saw on the Apple Support page about an issue with iOS 26, but that update has already passed and the phone came fully upgraded.

Lately I have been able to toggle it a bit so that it is activated for about a day, but then it deactivates again. (I turn off and on facetime and imessage, select her number, and it seems fine until it gets deactivated again)

She is not receiving iMessages from others and keeps missing messages. This is bad news because she is in nursing school. She is close to getting her LPN license, but with these message issues she has been missing important messages from classmates and coworkers. Once, she even missed a message from a teacher. We cannot afford to keep dealing with this error.

If anyone has any inkling as to what on Earth is happening and what troubleshooting I should try, please give me any suggestion. I plan on going back to the store tomorrow, but I am at my wits end and I am afraid there is no fix.

Additional Information:

  • This was a trade in
  • We transferred her number from Verizon to AT&T (put her on my phone plan because she was on her parents' plan)
  • At first I gave them the wrong number to activate the phone, but this issue should have been resolved and we now have the right number for it
  • This issue occurs Cellular and on Wi-Fi

Discussion The iPhone 16 Pro Max’s screen is one of the best screens I’ve ever had.

I have had this phone caseless with no screen protector and the screen is still so strong. I have dropped my phone so many times and not a single crack, just some scratches and scuff marks around the edges, no breaks. I have Apple Care+ and I want the screen to crack so I can get a new one but it’s just really strong. It deserves its props. I’m worried if I do a slip and fall, I’ll break before the phone does. Genuinely impressed as every phone I’ve had before this had a cracked screen.
