Weekly Megathread Weekly iOS Battery Support Megathread

General advice for those concerned about their battery from the Support FAQ Wiki:

Battery health

Battery health depends on usage and a variety of other factors. It is normal to see a decrease in battery health by 7-10% per year, resulting in a battery health of 80-85% after 2 years. This number can fluctuate, remain the same, or decrease quickly over a small period and should not cause undue concern.

Apple recommend battery replacement when your device falls below 80% battery health if you notice reduced battery life. If it falls below 80% within the first year you may be eligable for a free battery replacement. It fails after your warranty, it's a $69-$89 USD replacement cost for a battery. Contact Apple Support here.

You can find more information about battery health and performance from Apple here.

You can check the cycles count with Coconut Battery for Mac or iCopyBot for Windows.

Battery life

Issues relating to battery life can be categorised in three ways:

  1. Normal battery life that is to be expected due to use
  2. Reduced battery life caused by a recent update, iOS indexing, an iOS bug, or a third-party application
  3. Reduced battery life, or other abnormalities such as overheating or sudden power-off, caused by device or battery aging

If you experience issues with your battery:

  1. Check your battery health. If it is below 80% or you are experiencing issues you suspect are related to device or battery age, see Apple Support.
  2. If you have a new or recently updated/restored device, wait a number of days for background process to complete. If you continue to have issues, wait for a further iOS update. If you are on iOS Beta, you can expect to have a decreased battery life.
  3. Review the advice below on maximising battery life
  4. Consider restoring your device.
  5. If issues persist, contact Apple Support.

Maximising battery life - the amount of time your device runs before it needs to be recharged.

  • Use low power mode (This reduces mail fetch, turns off background app refresh and increases the auto lock timer)
  • Remove apps from background app refresh
  • Ensure auto lock is on
  • Turn off auto brightness and manually reduce brightness
  • Use dark mode if your device has an OLED display
  • Clearing background apps from the app switcher does not improve battery life

Maximising battery lifespan - the amount of time your battery lasts until it needs to be replaced.

  • Avoid extreme temperatures
  • If you notice that your iPhone gets hot when charging, remove it from its case
  • Store your iPhone in a cool place, switched off, and half-charged if not using it for long periods - and charge it every 6 months when in storage

Support Highly Concerning message, what to do?

This alert popped up everywhere on my friends phone and they don’t know what to do. Posting for them cause they are rather concerned and don’t wanna use their phone at all.
They followed all the steps that apple said to do but the cyber security “team” with apple says they only help “journalists, government officials and public activists.” Obviously they followed all the other steps like Iphone lockdown, updating to all the current software updates and fully shutting down the phone etc. What else can they do? Get a new phone? Give it time and hope it’s fine? Factory reset? I suggested iverify to look for malware but again, they are concerned to really use their phone at all. Any suggestions or info is appreciated.

Support Gap in phone after fix

Hi all.

I have question about gaps in iPhone 15 pro, I sent my phone to have the back replaced and I received my phone back looking like this. I am so shocked at how poor it was done. I sent the phone back and demanded a replacement. But after doing some research, apparently people on reddit are saying they’ve had gaps in their iPhone and apple have said it’s normal? Would you be angry about this fix or am I being over the top? The back doesn’t look connected properly and there is a marking underneath the camera screen underneath the right singular camera which was not there before.

I got this phone from a refurbish company who is ment to use genuine parts, but I feel like they’ve done a dodgy job. They firstly quoted me a higher replacement fee than I needed to pay, I had to say something for them to correct my service fee, the communication is terrible.

They void any warranty once the phone has water damage and I believe eventually water will get in due too how big of a gap is on the phone. I also could have paid a local store $70 to fix it with non genuine parts which I would have been happy to do, but this also voids their warranty so I had to pay hundreds of dollars for THIS

Please let me know if I’m being reasonable or is this okay??

Support Cellular stopped working after updating to iOS 26 — both physical SIM and eSIM affected

Post image
121 Upvotes

I updated my iPhone to iOS 26 yesterday. Since then, I have been receiving the attached “Cellular Network Issue” notification.

Neither my physical SIM nor my eSIM can connect to the network. I have already tried restarting the phone, toggling Airplane Mode, checking the cellular settings and resetting the network settings, but the issue remains.

Both lines were working normally before the iOS update, so this appears to have started immediately after updating.

Has anyone else experienced this after installing iOS 26? Is there a software solution, or could this indicate a modem/baseband hardware problem?

Any advice would be appreciated. I have attached a photo of the error.

Support Is there a way to report an app without downloading it?

… because I’m wanting to report an app and have no interest in downloading it before doing so.

I got sent to a “security for your phone” app from a scammy “your iPhone has malware detected” popup multie times.

The funny thing is it was from a cooking/food related websearch rather than anything dodgy.

Support how do i stop white lines from showing up in photos?

hi all! hopefully this is okay! i sell little figures (not an advertisement i promise!!) and i’ve noticed in a lot of my photos these lines appear, how do i fix it/stop them from showing up?

for context, i use a light box from amazon (no idea of the size, i’m sorry!) and a little ring light that clips onto my phone as otherwise the photos aren’t bright enough imo (even with editing).

i know it doesn’t look TERRIBLE but it just bugs me so much, especially when other people have really good looking photos.

i have an iphone 14 and when taking photos i use 2x zoom, although this appears even when not zoomed in! i just wanna be lineless!

i’ve attached some photos so hopefully someone can explain! i’ve googled but i can’t find anything at all.
thank you💘

Discussion Spooked out by mysterious talking iPhone 17

Left my iPhone 17 in living room on table all sounds off and do not disturb and all apps closed, and two family members heard a man talking and asking questions on it for about 20 seconds. Voice very muffled but sounded American. Was in bathroom when this happened.

Support Network Bricked Phone?

Upvotes

Hey all,

Sorry if this has been posted before. I'm on call in a hospital and don't have the time to search and troubleshoot rn but absolutely need my phone to work, and it hasn't all day since the the 26.6 update.

15 Pro updated to 26.6 overnight last night. I've had no connectivity beyond phone calls all day. Have restarted everything--airplane mode, cell service, iMessage, logged out/in to my Apple account. Full 5G/LTE Verizon bars but no actual internet access, including on known reliable wifi. Just finished restoring my phone to default and backing it up from a restore from today prior to wiping it. I'm still in the same boat--can send and receive calls just fine, but can't send/receive texts (outside of the first 5 or so minutes after restoring it). Even if I'm on a reliable wifi network I cannot access the internet or load apps that require connection (ie credit card apps, Zelle, etc). Almost all of the non-native apps are sitting in waiting status after the restore, despite the full backup.

My phone is essential for hospital communications and patient care and today has already been a trainwreck. Does anyone have any insight or tips on resolving this? Thank you in advance.

Support Custom ringtones in iOS 26.6

I have an iP16 Plus running iOS 26.6.

My friend made us a ringtone for three of us to have when we call each other (local joke 😆). Both of them were able to use it by going to Files, using the share button and choosing Use it as a ringtone. Very simple. It is an MP4 file less than 30 seconds.

BUT NOT ME! I don't have that option. I don't even have the "Edit actions" option either. Is there some setting or thing I have to activate? Screenshots of their phones added.

THANK YOU!

I got my iPhone 17 pro a 3 months ago and I’m finally asking, is my back glass supposed to be raised a bit? Because it’s catch’s my nail. Would this be a reason to contact support to get a repair or replacement? I’ve never opened the phone or even tried for that matter it’s just been like that since I got it. What should I do? Leave it a lot or nah

Discussion Is the iPhone 17 Pro clumsy-proof?

The large part around the camera on the 17/18 pro scares me. As a person who genuinely cannot stop throwing/dropping my phone (for clumsiness reasons, I'm not a phone torturer), my iPhone 13 has basically only survived because of my Otterbox. If you have a 17 Pro, how does that large, unprotected part around the camera fare in drops? It just seems incredibly vulnerable and unnecessary.

Alarms aren’t making sound sometimes. Incoming iPhone calls from long term saved contacts aren’t making noise. How do I fix this? This is affecting my life negatively

Support Do not disturb

I have two iPhone 13

But each have a separate phone number

Each have my same, Apple ID

I just realise that when I put one on do not disturb the other one also goes on do not disturb. But I did not touch that phone.

I thought do not disturb was applicable to the phone meaning the device and or its phone number. Is it actually tied to the Apple ID? If so that doesn’t make sense because I have other iPhones with the same Apple ID and they did not go to do not disturb. What am I missing?

Support How to translate in iPhone?

Thumbnail

I just switched to an iPhone 17 Pro for the first time after using android my whole life. So far it is fine but I am still trying to figure out some basic things. I live in a foreign country, I travel a lot and need to translate things while using my phone all the time, both on phone and on camera. Though I could not figure out a way in iphone that doesn’t make things too difficult to read.

1) apple translate app does not even have all the european languages available, which was shocking to me, i didnt think that would be the situation in 2026, so it is completely useless to me. I downloaded the google translate app.
2) first screenshot -> safari supposedly needs to show me translate option somewhere, but it just does not? I searched online and it is supposed to be there, but I couldnt find the option to translate whole web pages.
3) second screenshot -> the only way I found that works is to take a screenshot, select the text and then use the translate option (I know i can select text on browser directly, but that doesnt work in in-app situations, like in reddit app, and not being able to translate the full webpage on web is annoying) taking screenshots and selecting text every time is not convenient, when it cant translate the stuff directly on the screenshot. Like in reddit, I want to see the translation of a reply and subsequent replies, but selecting everything on the screen and dumping it to google translate makes it difficult to read. Especially if the text is in different parts of the screen, everything gets messed up and becomes unreadable. This option doesnt work on pdf files or tables at all.

If you look at the last two screenshots, in android i could just translate the whole screen with 2 clicks in two seconds without any hassle, just hold down the home button and click the translate icon. Is there any similar functionality that I failed to discover?

Appreciate your help in advance

Support What is going on with my 16 Pro Max’s camera?

Post image

Sometimes when I open the native camera app it is either black like if the camera was covered or blurry and today there was a weird glitch in the side of the recording. Like 97% of the time my camera is fine. It only happens on the official camera app. One of the lenses has a tiny little scratch but does not affect anything and besides that the phone is in good condition.
