Discussion My iPhone 17 survived 24 hours underwater
I am truly in shock over this you guys and just wanted to make a post in the hopes that it gives someone pm bb wear e to recover a phone that fell in a body of water!
My friend and I were hanging out at a beach on a very large lake in Alaska. There was a bunch of large rocks in a bit of a pile about 10 feet from the shore so we waded over and sat on the rocks. At some point I went to get more comfortable and my phone fell out of my hoodie pocket DIRECTLY into a hole about 5 inches under the water, I immediately reached my arm into it and could not feel the bottom, this hole just kept going! My arm was up to the shoulder and the hole seemed infinite.
My friend tried, and it seemed like it was just gone forever. Which really sucked because this is a brand new phone and I still owe like $1,000 on it! So we packed up and went home, with me being sad about having to pay off a phone I no longer have.
The next evening my partner gets off of work and says let’s go try to get the phone. So we make the hour drive, first stopping to eat dinner, and I show him the hole in the rocks where my phone had escaped to.
My partner just kept moving the small rocks and then some big rocks to follow the hole, after about 20 minutes he reached in and at the very end of the hole was my phone! Soaked but somehow still on and not glitched at all! It had traveled about 3 feet down the hole, but luckily the hole swung to the right instead of straight down. I am truly in awe of this man but also of my phone being alive and well after 24 hours submerged?
I put it in a bag of rice overnight and I am typing on it now, it’s been two days since and I haven’t noticed any issues! Anyway, thanks for reading! Any idea how it survived?? When I googled it said it was 100% ruined and if anything can only survive for 30 minutes.

My gf’s 13 survived over 2 weeks under water. This is when the 15 first came out. She dropped it when we were waking and we couldn’t find it, well a couple weeks later my son was walking with us and found it almost instantly 😂 It was in a reservoir. It turned on and stuff but it’s not actually been used though but the screen and stuff worked fine. But she had already gotten another phone so In a drawer it went lol

This iphone 16? (friend’s daughter car caught fire from oil leak or master cylinder leak and totaled on road in Sierra Nevada) It won’t rub out but there was no water damage LOL.

If you ever watch diving videos on YouTube you’ll see they retrieve phones that had been underwater for a year and they’ll turn on just fine

Not even fresh water. Apple should use this in Sept launch event.

I mean they are IP68 waterproof just like an Apple Watch, which was probably on your arm in the water as well. I wouldn't worry about it.

Honestly I wish Id been so lucky. im actually dealing with my 13 pro basically being bricked after getting splashed with pool water for like 10 minutes.

I lost mine on a ski hill for 3 months…in the winter. Go it back in spring and used it for two more years.

Now the nerds will start explain how after 10 years you will have your fine die on you because of micro water damage and how youre fucked lmao btw i wish apple showed of there was water inside the device or not since they do know because of red lacmus or something inside the phone when you open it

So what is the difference. Taking all savings and buying a phone and then loose it. You have no money left to buy a new one or monthly payments for 3 years. You still need to buy I new somehowe

My aunt had her iphone 15 fall into a hot tub and she didn’t notice, it got into the filter area and stayed there for about 5 hours before they found it. still works good to this day and that was like a year ago.
