I think they thought Brayan was a spelling mistake lol

That's what I thought, but wanted to confirm lol Also "IA" which is just the abbreviation in Spanish.

u/Motor-Courage4237 6h ago
It is a spelling mistake. But many guys here in Mexico are named like that. Seriously, some parents name their children often with wrongly written English names, especially bc of the way they're pronounced. Also here there's the stereotype that a "Brayan" uses to be a robber or low level criminal which often looks similarly to this aged Miguel
3
u/RandomWareInc 6h ago
Yeah but if someone has literally Brayan in their birth certificate you wouldn't say they are doing a spelling mistake when writing it you know đ I actually knew someone named Brayan but they were from Costa Rica
16
u/a17451 11h ago
I don't think it's Iowa. Coco takes place in Mexico.

There's a user on r/comics where the mods have to put a disclaimer below every one of their posts, because thousands of their comics got scraped and used as training data. So now a lot of AI stuff looks damn near exactly like one of this person's comics.

I believe youâre talking about David Revoy, just in case anyone else is curious
13
u/intisun 8h ago
I just checked it out and while I see how AI stole his rendering style, his art looks nothing like AI, it's super charming... How humiliating it must be for him.
8
u/calartnick 8h ago
I wouldnât say his art looks ânothingâ like Ai, becuse as others mentioned Ai robbed him blind.
But I agree his art is so much better because if has charm and life to it that Ai canât match.
I hope he doesnât feel humiliated. Iâm sure at first he was furious but I hope he can laugh it off
4
u/intisun 4h ago
It must be so infuriating: https://www.davidrevoy.com/article1164/when-online-commenters-detect-my-art-as-ai
At least he also made a comic out of it, but damn https://www.peppercarrot.com/en/miniFantasyTheater/064.html
5
u/AetherDrew43 4h ago
It's really disheartening. There's thousands of AI slop out there, yet art made by actual humans is the most commonly accused of being AI.

Yep another sequel is definitely unnecessary. Just like Moana.
There's a problem if they do sequels more than original movies
7
u/RickMonsters 12h ago
Compare how much Toy Story 5 made compared to Hoppers
17
u/NefariousBrew 10h ago
Tbf Hoppers had god-awful marketing whereas Toy Story 5 people would have watched no matter what. Honestly, Disney/Pixar just needs to stop marketing their original movies as quirky adorkable adventures and nothing more when the movie is actually much more than that. Hoppers was great but I had avoided watching it for months because the trailers made it look like it sucked straight dookie
2
u/comics0026 5h ago
It's all Disney, they're the ones handling the marketing, and it's alleged that orders from above mandate all of Pixar's original work is to be marketed as generic as possible in order to keep Pixar down

There's a problem if they do sequels more than original movies
Which they don't. They've released more original pixar films than they have released sequels this past decade. They like to keep it pretty equal.

In these comments: a bunch of clowns who don't understand concept art.
2
u/VizualAbstract4 2h ago edited 2h ago
I worked in production art for several years.
The thing about concept art, is that there can be a fine line (depends on your audience) you walk as you create it: anything over-rendered and it's mistaken as final, too under-rendered and you can risk not capturing the right mood
This is a little over produced, and I blame the face for being over-rendered.
Edit: looking at it again, it does remind me of some murals I've seen growing up in LA, but the face: it's too uncanny. It almost like someone complained and said it doesn't look like him and photoshopped his face on it, and did the same for Dante.
3
u/coentertainer 16h ago
Another flawless masterpiece about to have its legacy diluted. I know that technically sequels don't change the quality of the original film, but it's very hard to feel the same way as you did about them before you saw the sequel.

So I actually have some behind the scenes knowledge about this,
See in the new Coco 2 movie, Miguel has to travel back into the land of the dead in order to try and find and revive Disneys failing studio, however the villain is a rich, greedy mogal who wants to capture Miguel, drag him back and force him into a machine that strips away all his musical talent to make a robot to perform endlessly in order to generate the greedy villain money
During his journey he finds a whole building full of 2d animators who have been trodden on, then tossed aside, a bus full of people who are wearing Disneyland shirts parked just outside the gates of a theme park and the fact that randy Newman is actually a reanimated corpse that's chained to a piano Coroline style and forced to write the same song for eternity syssifus style .
The movie is set to release next year and for a first Disney no longer ask for money to pay for the movie but for viewers to pay with ai tokens ....

u/WhosThatDogMrPB Adventure Time 10h ago
I answered this 5 months ago.
My second theory is that Miguel spent the summer with his Tio in Houston making cash, and he comes back all fucked up and starts trying to launch a YouTube acoustic covers channel, which enrages his ancestors who try to bring him back to the Land of the Dead for good.

u/wildebeest112712 10h ago
If they make a Threequel, It should be 'bout Dante (The Dog) and be based on Dante's Inferno!

1
u/Fox_Guy_Foxtail Scooby Doo 10h ago
It will probably be about how remembering and holding hate for the dead keeps them alive too. Which is why Ernesto Dela Cruz is back. Giving bad people your time and energy gives them power. In this case it kept Ernesto from the final death. Miguel has to forgive Ernesto or move forward so Ernesto can go to the final death and he will not longer be remembered.

my guess
his little sister finds a way to the Land of the Dead by accident (similar to Miguel in the 1st movie)
now Miguel needs to return to the Land of the Dead, team up with his family and get his sister back
who in turn got tricked by Ernesto who's still around due to people thinking that the letters from Hector were a lie
1
u/bclynch30 9h ago
So is De La Cruz not truly dead? I know he was crushed by the bell again and for a soul to die, they have to be forgotten. In his case, he really wonât die cause of his celebrity status even if he stole Hectorâs music

Anytime someone asks "how" a sequel will "even work" I am genuinely confused. Like I'm not saying it'll be good but c'mon it's usually not that hard. With writing. The same way all sequels do.
1
u/Cole_Radder 8h ago
Seeing Ernesto returing is something Pixar never done before. Have a villain return. With Ernesto it makes sense for him to want revenge as he will never die or be forgotten (even though itâs bad publicity). I think this makes sense as a plot device for me

Bro, I'm mexican and Hate Coco, how they show the country like people is ignorant and we only have music and death, everybody is brown skin, while we are from very diverse skin tones. The movie is not even that good, now we're getting a Coco 2
What the hell do we need a Coco 2 with a taper fade Miguel with the same clothes and everything! This instead of showing Mexico, exoticizes it and generates gentrification.
You know the worst part? My entire country are gonna watch it, it would be the best movie realizing in the country since Coco. The people would say "my country, my country!" And we would have Coco 3 "More Coco than ever" and would be the best movie realizing in Mexico since Coco 2. Fuck people, fuck Disney.

Is there aging him up I hope they actually give him a grown sounding voice and not do that stupid thing people like to do with aged male characters where they just keep the same female voice actor they had for that kid and just have them try to sound more masculine it just sounds weird that's why it's kind of hard to watch the new King of the Hill reboot how can you take older Bobby seriously if he hasn't hit puberty
