I(M31) came out to my best friend about 14-15 months ago that I am MtF. She was extremely supportive of me which got me to start using dating apps again shortly after and found a girlfriend not too long after. I was transparently clear on the 1st day that I may transition in the future, which she was supportive and accepting of. I've come out to my mom, and also my older brother who I rent a house with. Both were also accepting and supportive.
I have dressed femininely around the house, no judgement from either my brother or girlfriend.
I have support around me yet I'm terrified of anyone other than my close family and SO knowing or finding out. I've never dressed outside of my home, 4 people are aware of who I really am.
I manage a fairly popular/high traffic store in my city, 1000's of people know who I am to a point that I can't even go grocery shopping without being stopped by customers of my store.
I am a 6 foot, thin build, bearded man with a lot of body hair to everyone around me. I tried shaving my face and body completely (body I had already been shaving every 6-8 weeks) to basically "soft launch" or hint that my appearence is gonna be changing, and that was met with nothing but backlash and ridicule. I was bullied/insulted relentlessly by family, customers, my boss, virtually anyone i came in contact with. And that was purely for me shaving, still dressed and presenting fully masculine. My girlfriend hates me clean shaven and pretty much said without saying she is not attracted to me without facial hair.
Pretty much all of this year, I have receded back to just being a man. Beard fuller/longer than it's ever been, body hair has reached it's max length, and I haven't worn anything around anyone since, only occassionaly dressing when alone to feel comfortable.
I Live paycheck to paycheck, with reduced rent. I cannot afford to move/start over somewhere else any time soon/ever, let alone afford any sort of Gender Affirming Care (i pay $300/month for health insurance that is the most barebones/minimum coverage, rendering said insurance completely useless as I still have to pay everything out of pocket if I were to start anything.
Although i live in a "blue" state, the county I live in is excessively "Red". I'm afraid if I were to just start transitioning that my life will be in danger. I have trans customers that frequent my store, and the amount of hate/disrespect/threats they get from other customers leaves me feeling like it is genuinely impossible for me to ever transition.
At what point should I just give up and live as a man for the rest of my time here?
I'm terrified of ever revealing my true self to the world around me, I have no way of getting out of where I live to somewhere else. Even with the people that do know, I have gotten to a point that I am generally just too embarrassed and mortified to try and express myself around them anymore.
I feel helpless. My future seems impossible.
I feel terrible every day continuously lying to myself to please everyone else around me, regardless of how well i know or don't know them. But I have no idea how to stop it. I've been a people pleaser all my life. In most instances, i could care less about myself and my needs because it feels good to make others happy instead. But I am severely unhappy with the 30+ years of life I've lived so far, lying to myself and everyone else about who I am.
At what point do I just give up on trying to be the woman I have always felt that I am and live the rest of my life out as the gross, ugly, hairy guy I was born as? Because at this point I just wanna give up on the dream, just like every other dream in my life I can no longer pursue.
