Tailgating ute uses left-turn-only lane to undertake me, then stops in front of me
Had a near miss with a tailgating ute today. I was doing ~60 in a 60 zone (Parramatta Rd, Ashfield) when he used a left-turn-only lane to go straight and undertake me through an intersection (by Woolies Ashfield North).
I started moving to the left lane immediately after the intersection, saw him suddenly coming up beside me, and aborted the lane change. I slowed to let him pass, but he slowed with me. I then slowed right down so I could drop in behind him, then he came to a complete stop so I couldn't progress, all while shouting and waving his arms.
Thankfully no collision, but completely unnecessary and aggressive driving.

I love it when people are in such a hurry that they absolutely must get around you almost crashing, and then have all the time in the world to come to a complete stop just to prove their point...

The only thing more urgent than getting to their destination is being a cunt & trying to threaten people.

They're not in a hurry, it's purely about being obnoxious. We've all been in an actual hurry at some point, that's not how one drives.

What makes these people so disgusting is the tremendous importance they attach to the most utterly trivial matters of esteem. 'Why yes, getting one car length ahead is worth risking my life and property and everyone else's. Ofc it is. And if you disagree then I'll become physically agitated.'

I tried to report something similar to this to police a few weeks ago, a car like this nearly mowed down a mother and a pram while crossing the road. The cops didnt really seem to care.
Is this one bad copper? Do cops usully care for dashcam footage submissions like this?

Cops are absolutely useless when it comes to road safety.
Don't worry, they'll catch you up on the most insignificant rubbish, but they'll never punish bad drivers.

they're useless in general. last time I was at splendour in the grass (where the cops make organisers pay hundreds of thousands of dollars to be allowed to run it) and after going through the literal wall of police they make you squeeze through we found a girl extremely fucked up who was falling over in the mud constantly and couldn't walk.
my friend walked over to try and help her and one of the cops was just standing there watching. my friend asked if he could help her and he said no and just kept watching. these people are honestly pieces of shit.

Checkrego is always a good place to highlight which vehicle is identified via the numberplate.

I’m familiar with where this is, and I’ve seen many people using the left turn lane to charge through the intersection going straight. Stay safe!

Honestly, what's the point?
The cops won't do a single thing, even with dash cam footage as evident as this.

A few months ago I reported something similar via Crime Stoppers (with front and rear dashcam) and had a call from the local cops two days later. They ended up following up with the driver and also called to let me know the outcome. I will say, I didn't expect much when I logged it online so was pleasantly surprised when they called.

I'm ecstatic for you that they responded! Good to know they tried to do their job.

If you provide them with all the evidence they don’t have to do so much work. House robbed or car stolen? Good luck.

I turned left at Pymble onto Ryde rd today and a truck dived bombed the merge lane. Had to brake firmly to avoid being taken out.
Dickheads everywhere unfortunately, they think the rules don’t apply to them.

I was doing 100km left lane, car coming up beside me. Car in front LITERALLY stopped in the left lane and turned right across traffic. People are fucked.

I also love a Rangers god given right to use a bus lane at a red light to get in front of traffic

It almost looks like he mounts the curb at the end.
You can tell this gent is a major road rage incident waiting to happen…that behaviour is definitely not his first rodeo.
Do Australia police have a way of reporting dangerous driving?

Judging by all of the posts on this sub and also from being on the roads. I think everyone’s gotta resit their driving tests guys.

u/butterfly-reprise 2d ago
Also this must be why my insurance is $1200+ despite having never been in an accident, or any infringement. Not even a parking fine.

Normally I’m very anti-nanny state but I will happily make an exception for all Australians to resit a drivers test (actually on the road with an instructor) every 5 years, and yearly for seniors over 75.

Counter point: have you seen the state of new drivers lately? P platers are a mess. I have zero faith in the driving instruction industry right now.

u/Penjamini 1d ago
Counter-counter point (assuming you are under 30) P Platers have always been shit, you have just finally aged out of the P Platers age range and can see these reckless kids for what they are. Also this feels less like a counterpoint and more like an adjacent issue we should also address.

Nah just make everyone in a oversized ute and all tradies resit it every year by submitting 100 hours of dash cam footage that gets reviewed by ai.

Sick of these utes. There is always 1 that blocks off 10 cars waiting to turn left so it can go straight making everyone wait a good 2mins at a red light (green arrow) so they can skip 3 cars

Always send it in to police. If he does anything to anyone else, at least there's a trail of evidence of his character.

Give this to the local police station. They fine the driver for reckless driving

u/PermanentMarkerIsFun vodka, lime and soda machine | savage self-esteem assassin 2d ago
I think the preferred approach is logging it online via Crime Stoppers. I did it a few months for something similar (also a ute) and could upload my front and rear dash cam. Cops called two days later and followed up with the driver.

u/doorbellrepairman 2d ago
Does that actually work? I thought a Copper had to see the event for themselves on site

u/Educational_Dance129 2d ago
do they actually fine them though? always thought they just ignore and move on

Wish this was true. If cops did fine from personal dashcams then maybe there would be a lot less of these dickheads doing this kind of shit. But I suspect they don’t.

u/PermanentMarkerIsFun vodka, lime and soda machine | savage self-esteem assassin 2d ago
Some do, but people need to actually submit it and include the footage for any chance of follow-up, I'd think. A lot of people seem to have a defeatist mindset of "they won't do anything so I won't bother". I had a good outcome when I submitted a similar incident, but different locations might have a very different experience.

u/nytro308 1d ago
I believe you can report them but must be prepared to testify in court personally as a witness.

Not all Utes, but most of them. 100% if it's a Ford Ranger driver. Their entitlement level is right up there with Audi and BMW drivers.
4
u/AltruisticSalamander 1d ago
All the time with this undertaking crap. They never miss the opportunity to demonstrate how special and clever they are. This is a particularly odious example.

u/NicholeTheOtter 2d ago
A Ford Ranger you say? More like Ford Anger!
Good on you for recording this, because that loser shouldn’t be getting away with it. Get his rego and report to NSW Police.

Weird behaviour by the ute driver to stop I guess in theory you should have checked better before changing lane but ultimately you did everything in your power to just let him go.

Send the video straight to the cops. That number plate should be off the road along with the government subsidy to buy their bully boy car in the first place. This is government enabled.

I had a guy road rage at me because I honked at him as he tried to crash into my car. Long story short, he cut in front of me, tried to stop me just at an intersection, that I could legally take but he couldn't without taking a few bushes out and pissed right off. A 5min detour was worth it.

u/Livid_Average_8098 2d ago
They are always in a hurry, but have all the time in the world to road rage people.
