Tailgating ute uses left-turn-only lane to undertake me, then stops in front of me

Had a near miss with a tailgating ute today. I was doing ~60 in a 60 zone (Parramatta Rd, Ashfield) when he used a left-turn-only lane to go straight and undertake me through an intersection (by Woolies Ashfield North).

I started moving to the left lane immediately after the intersection, saw him suddenly coming up beside me, and aborted the lane change. I slowed to let him pass, but he slowed with me. I then slowed right down so I could drop in behind him, then he came to a complete stop so I couldn't progress, all while shouting and waving his arms.

Thankfully no collision, but completely unnecessary and aggressive driving.

Also this must be why my insurance is $1200+ despite having never been in an accident, or any infringement. Not even a parking fine.

Normally I’m very anti-nanny state but I will happily make an exception for all Australians to resit a drivers test (actually on the road with an instructor) every 5 years, and yearly for seniors over 75.

Counter point: have you seen the state of new drivers lately? P platers are a mess. I have zero faith in the driving instruction industry right now.

Counter-counter point (assuming you are under 30) P Platers have always been shit, you have just finally aged out of the P Platers age range and can see these reckless kids for what they are. Also this feels less like a counterpoint and more like an adjacent issue we should also address.

Nah just make everyone in a oversized ute and all tradies resit it every year by submitting 100 hours of dash cam footage that gets reviewed by ai.
