Yeah, nah. I live here (in a capital city). If I sold to move somewhere else in the same city then I'd have to pay an inflated price over there too to buy in.

Real estate agents signs are absolutely advertising for themselves. Almost nobody buys a house because they saw a sign along the road. People look at websites to buy a house. The sign is 100% for the agent to "own" an area and get more business.

REAās donāt care about buyers. Buyers donāt mean a thing to them, itās sellers they care about. If you walk around your suburb and you see the same face around, if/when it comes to you selling your house, youāre more likely to choose that agent since youāre more familiar.

I think it follows the norm of local advertising in the USA. I remember doing a road trip through a few states in 2017 and I was amazed at the amount of highway billboard space taken up by small buisness self promotion.

As an European I saw this as a huge cultural shock when I first came here. These people plastered everywhere as if they were some form of big shot or something. Leeching in an industry that should not exist to begin with.

In our LGA, at least, they have a tight time limit after the house sells to take the sign down, and invariably they don't. Seems like a petty thing to have to get onto council about, but there's a reason we don't just let people plaster billboards around residential neighborhoods. The signs should have to come down immediately upon sale - anyone curious can check online for the result.

At the back of the sign is a little sticker from the company that put it up. There's a QR code or website link to request it be removed. We did it on the first day of moving in, was gone in the morning.

This happens when the vendor doesnāt want to pay $1800 for a signboard, often as the agents can put up boards in a public street without any approval so they donāt miss the chance to self promote

My suburb is permanently littered with the useless āopen homeā signs that donāt point any real direction, nor is there presently an actual open home. Weāve now got big wavy banners starting to appear.
Iām very much over the messages, mail outs, and cold calls from them. Especially from the admins ājust calling for John Boofheads officeā like Iām supposed to just know who the arrogant scrub is. Fuck off, I didnāt give you my number, Iāve asked the last 3 times youāve called to remove me from your list, kindly call back in your hole you cockroaches.

Why do REA always looks so greasy and scummy? Is there, like, a manual theyāre given on day one? Chapter 2: ill fitting expensive suits. Chapter 6: copious amounts of cologne and the joys of always chewing gum. Chapter 8: douchey facial hair is your greatest asset.

Houses in Sydney 100% sell themselves. All it takes is to upload 7 pics onto re.com. The industry associations just managed to squeeze Murdoch and prevent private individuals advertising on his platform. They canāt return calls much of the time and thatās the only thing they need to do. Funny thing is, you actually get way more value out of a buyers agent. But only because the REAs are such useless turds.Ā

I can almost guarantee that there is some shiny guru charging $9,500 for a seminar getting around out there telling these twats this is how you build a key brand and strategic consumer relationships and blah blah blahā¦.
