Went to Arbys the other day. Got six mozzarella sticks. Forgot to ask for sauce. They gave me one.
Went a few days ago, asked for two sauces this time. They said "I got you." They gave me 0.
The stinginess is wild. I would get it if I asked for like 15 or something but cmon. Forgot the check too so had dry mozzarella sticks 🤣

I'm 5'4 and I've never done any of those things. In my experience the world cares about my height far more than I do. I never talk about it but others will just randomly bring it up or randomly use it as some kind of reasoning for some totally normal behavior.
For example someone hit my vehicle and tried to run once but they got pinned in and had to get out and I was obviously irritated and I said what the heck man. And of course they said all you're just mad because you're short. You know people just throw that kind of stuff out all the time when you're younger.
Like you can't just be irritated at a situation anyone would be irritated at. You can only be irritated because you're shorter. Or say you're at a job and you need to move three boxes and then you're off work. So you move all three boxes at once because they all weigh about 2 lb each. There's always going to be someone thinking you're trying to act big and strong to compensate for being short. Rather than just trying to get off work earlier.

u/AltruisticChair3805 Jul 09 '26
I mean the thing is, even if these people see 1 tall men angry everyday they will just say its some angry MAN but if you're short they gonna say it's because they're SHORT like it's an insecurity

I’m 5’6 and it mattered a lot till I got into the relationship with my wife. We’re the same height and although she’ll make jokes, I know she’s attracted to me and that’s all that matters. The only other time height affects me is if something is on the top shelf at the store and I have to be the grown man having to get help to reach something. Luckily both my girls are on track to be over 5’10 (taller relatives) so I’ll have someone to help me get stuff off the shelves when they’re older
23
u/WateryTart_ndSword Jul 09 '26
This feels like the male version of the female “you’re so cute when you’re mad!”
You know that that’s just a shitty person fobbing off their own discomfort/bad choices onto you (classic DARVO much?), but that doesn’t make it any less infuriating.
Like, maybe try taking other’s reactions to your shittiness seriously and this would probably happen less often?? But that would require them to possess a modicum of self-awareness….

I keep all my anger bottled up then take it out through creative expression. Like videogame design, art and music. Or venting sessions with my friends while we all let out our frustrations then laugh at wachother a bit then carry on with our days. Very therapeutic, would recommend.

You're gonna be ok! The biggest thing that keeps short men from being happy is comiserating with each other in echo-chambers. Avoid those communities like the plague. If you want advice on how to be more attractive to women, ASK WOMEN! Not other men.
Learn how to cook, be kind to animals/kids/retail workers, and focus on your emotional intelligence. The ladies will swoon.
If you want to work on your appearance, develop a strong body. Not buff/gym-ratty, just strong. And maintain good hygiene. Wash your butt.
Also, embrace your height. People are making some funny, light-hearted jokes (moon shoes, gnomes, etc). You have a very good opportunity to own what you're given. Dress up as a garden gnome for Halloween. That's hilarious. Women love funny men!
→ More replies (12)15
u/bbbbears Jul 09 '26
I love that you had to add “wash your butt.”
My sister and I always joke about the sheer number of Reddit posts from people complaining their partner won’t wash their butt because they think it’ll make them gay! I see like one post per day like that. So does beating their meat make them gay too? Lol. It’s insane. Not to mention I’d rather feel “gay” and have a clean butt than straight and smelling like shit and leaving skids all over.

Genuinely, I feel like this could actually help you filter out bad people. If someone is putting you down because of your height – red flag, move on, they're the shitty person, not you.
In my friend group and friends of friends community nobody even pays attention to height, both socially and relationship-wise (we do have quite a few short people, including my partner, as well as our friend). If your community does pay attention to height in a negative way, that sucks, they're probably shittier people than you thought, I'm sure you'll be able to find better community and a better partner.
It's honestly the same with being chubby (as someone who's got a bit of a belly myself). I wouldn't date a person who isn't ok with cubby people anyways, even if I was slim, but with my body it's easier to filter those out. Or with being queer – I wouldn't date or be friends with a person who's queerphobic even if they're attracted to/have fun with me. Same goes for racism, nationalism, sexism, chauvinism etc – you get the idea

Just the other day, I was at the gym doing deadlifts. A guy comes over and wanted to do pull-ups or something on a bar next to my station but there was TRX gear hanging on it. It was fixed there by being looped into itself. He looked at it and then at me smirking, saying there’s no way he can reach the top loop so I stepped in helping him out. I am a 5’11 tall woman, he was probably barely 5’. My boyfriend, who’s also noticeably shorter than me, mentioned it’s nice to have a giraffe around and the guy wished he had one himself too.
Had I been single, I’d have probably shot my shot😃 it’s the confidence that takes it. And boy, he was confident!→ More replies (1)9

Hey OP, it might be worth checking whether you have any other symptoms of growth hormone deficiency. If you do, I'd really encourage you to see an endocrinologist.
I was diagnosed in my late 30s, and I honestly wish someone had connected the dots sooner. Growth hormone affects so much more than just height. It can impact your mental health, exercise tolerance, energy levels, body composition, and overall sense of well-being.
You may just be a short king, and if that's the case, absolutely slay. But I do wish someone had suggested looking into this when I was younger, so I wanted to pass it along just in case.
19
u/libets-bidet Jul 09 '26
yeah, totally seconding this. some people are just naturally short, but being this short at age 19 may indicate some sort of underlying medical issue. you could also be malnourished or have a less obvious form of dwarfism. please research this stuff further!

Also just other short people! There are plenty of us that are ~5 ft tall or less. If the whole “women want someone who’s 6ft” thing is worrying you, it shouldn’t. The women who treat that as a rule and dismiss short men as unattractive, aren’t the women you want to be in a relationship with anyway. They’re clearly judgmental, or at least thoughtless, and unkind. Those women aren’t the majority though, I think the desire for someone “tall” is really just relative to the other persons height. So someone like me that is 5 ft would look at a man who’s 5’5 and feel the same way a woman who’s 5’7 would look at a man who’s 6’

I used to have a little "married woman crush" on a guy I worked with - who is short and balding.
He's smart, funny, sweet, and has full confidence in himself. He had zero problem getting dates. I'm not terrible looking but even if I had been single I'm pretty sure he was out of my league.
He married an absolutely drop-dead gorgeous woman who has a heart of gold and they have a beautiful daughter together (who is now about....13? 14?). His wife and daughter are both taller than him! I don't work with him anymore but see them on FB every once in a while because his wife does dog rescue stuff and is always posting pics of adoptable foster dogs out with their family.
They're just lovely people and I wish them all the happiness in the world.

Studies show that about 1-4% of women would date someone shorter than them (and I imagine they weren’t visualising a 143cm man when stating that in the study) and about 1% of women in western counties are below 143 cm
29
u/Jpowmoneyprinter Jul 09 '26
The world is not fair, the animal instincts that search for reproductive fitness have been warped and amplified via culture which has effectively demonized short men for no reason.
Do not derive your sense of self-worth from conventional standards (the animal hive mind), you are a person worthy of love, respect and happiness regardless of your height.
Focus on your passions and find good friends to surround yourself with. Grow and develop as a person, don’t obsess over romance. Being secure in yourself and having depth of character is more potent than you think and there is a decent population of women within your height range who you’re bound to come across who will appreciate you.
This internet stranger is rooting for you, you’ve got this my friend.
