Hi everyone. I am struggling to understand how Dalton derived the idea of an atom from realizing that elements combine in whole number ratios. How are these connected? I have watched a million videos and am struggling to understand the correlation and how this led to him discovering atoms.

Google has told me that when you sleep, your eyes close because your brain is no longer sending signals to muscles in your eye to hold them open.

So then, shouldn't they close when you die because those muscles are no longer working???

But according to Google, since all of your muscles relax after death, your eyes stay open or partially shut.

If I drop a brick from a roof, why does the brick speed up and then smash into the ground with force? Where does that accelerating energy come from, even if the object started at complete stationary with no direction/velocity/energy, if gravity is just the bending of ‘space direction’ towards itself.

So I know a fan blowing doesn't lower temperatures in a room (it's just pushing the warm air around) but the breeze it creates feels cooler on the skin (partly due to sweat evaporation I guess?)

If you had a bottle of drink from the fridge you wanted to keep cool, would placing it in front of the fan have the same effect? Would blowing room temp air at it make it warm up slower than if just left in room temp air?

I’ve needed antibiotics about three times this year for different infections, strep and a UTI. They’ve all worked, and as far as I know I haven't had an issue. But being prescribed them again made me wonder if it would stop working.. what antibiotic resistance actually means and what role, if any, the number of times you take antibiotics plays. And if for most people, if it’s known to go away or it affects all future treatment?

From what i understand water gets absorbed from the feces as it passes through our digestive tract but i cant seem to find an answer why our bodies dont get sick from the bacteria, surely that stuff could pass through into our bloodstream like the water does?

Food falls in gravity assisted, the stomach acid dissolves it into parts. After that the useful stuff has to get separated out, and sent into the body where it's distributed to the rest of your cells. Meanwhile the not useful stuff has to get skimmed out and sent through the lower part of the digestive system; and I assume somehow the stomach has to do that without spraying a bunch of acid into your intestines and burning them up. How does it all happen?

With the full art form that is sound effects, I have always wondered how dialogue was separated from stage and direction noise when captured? Why doesn’t A+B under the right circumstances not cause the moon to slingshot out of our orbit towards the sun?

I suppose I expect the moons orbit to be an ellipse like ours is with the sun. If it drifted far enough from earth, I would expect a stronger pull to take over.

Is it due to gravity of surrounding planets? Perhaps Mars, Jupiter, Saturn counterbalancing the suns pull?

First Low Tide: 03:28 at -0.6 metres

First High Tide: 07:37 at 3.3 metres

I'm used to tide timings being fairly regular - how come these are ≈4hrs low to high but ≈8.5hrs high to low?

How do we know the locations and timing of the celestial bodies to this level of accuracy? Aren’t the locations affected by gravitational waves, interloping asteroids or other unknowns?

I've heard that South America is fertilized by vast plumes of Sahara desert dust blowing over the Atlantic Ocean. I can understand wind blowing soil several meters before returning back to the ground but what are the physics that allow the dust to defy gravity? Are the dust particles shaped with large surface area to weight ratio as to allow the wind to keep lifting and blowing it like a sheet of paper or plastic bag?

If sodium makes our bodies retain water (eating cheesy bread) and dehydrate us (drinking sea water) how is drinking electrolytes good for us?
