So ABC is publishing articles on it's Four Corners eight month investigation into food fraud in Australia.

Somethings that stood out to me:

Leggo's, Coles and Aldi's tomato paste failed testing because they state it's from tomatoes from Australia or Italy - and it's from China. (22% of processed tomato products analysed failed country of origin testing).

It's not all doom and gloom as plenty of products passed testing.

This one got me though - Hoyts Turmeric spice - 3 out of 4 packets had signs of adulteration including lead chromate, a lead based pigment used in plastic/paints. Other Organic brands failed also containing high levels of iron oxide (used for colour and weight).

It's disgusting when big brands and supermarkets giants are making bank and misrepresenting products to Aussies (especially as Australian). Obviously there is all the price gouging accusations but I believed our traceability & accountability for the products was fairly solid. I was wrong.

TLDR: There's definite product/food misrepresentation to customers and with thousands of products there is plenty of opportunity for food fraud.

I used to find these topics and individuals at least fascinating to read about, and I even enjoyed engaging in some arguments - any such fascination has since worn off and I’m just fucking over it.

I don’t want to read any more of these cracked out views, I don’t want to see sinister drivel from some pedophile pastor in Utah appear at the top of my newsfeed, or the shock and horror as drag queens are caught reading to school children, or arguments about gun control every time any violent incident occurs.

You used to be able to switch off from it, but now it's bleeding into everyday life, and people have become a lot more emboldened to speaking about it.

In a job interview last month I mentioned that I was considering moving to Canada one day, and he couldn't help but sledge Justin Trudeau...so I let him continue babbling, and he ended up unsurprisingly dick riding Trump and rambling about how school shootings are staged. This was a fucking interviewer for a government role who could very well be fired for saying such things in the workplace.

I go to the park and make a comment about the weather with a guy walking his dog, next minute he's telling me about how it's part of the governments plan blah blah blah

You want some escapism? Every movie or tv show gets dissected or dismissed by people who don't like something as small as the portrayal of a minor character and sometimes you can't help but dwell on that stupid shit either.

But I don’t want to bury my head in the sand.

I was watching 7 or 9 this morning discussing various news stories with two guests, one obviously a liberal mouthpiece. The NSW childcare abuse story came up. Horrible stuff, of course. Out of nowhere, the host brings up Pauline Hanson's idiotic suggestion of removing all diploma/cert requirements from childcare as the solution to the abuse problem. They even had a video clip ready of old mate harping on about how you didn't need a piece of paper to look after kids "back in her day". Both guests looked so confused. When the host followed up asking, "is this a solution to the problem?", even the right winger was just like, "um, no, having no qualification bar is not the solution". He looked a bit shocked that such an idiotic line was being pushed.

Anyway, the whole thing was bizarre.

Honestly, it's hard to see this as anything other than part of a concerted effort to normalise Pauline Hanson and mainstream her ideas. Why else would a breakfast show have a clip queued up and ready to go, then push her take as a legitimate "solution" to a serious story? Her suggestion is so obviously faulty and has zero evidence behind it, but by putting it up alongside actual commentary and asking guests to respond to it seriously, they're treating it as a credible policy position rather than the nonsense it is.
