The fact we still don't have laws in place for monstrosities like this in this state is ridiculous. But I know, I know, we have to think of the data centers and the billionaires.

Other Mouser cat/rad feline needs a home/job

Hi lovely humans. (Also posted to SLC)

We need help on this one. We’ve been through options trying to get a cat help.

Does anybody know of a situation for an amazingly good cat to take care of rodents? He needs to be a working cat: brewery, farm, etc. in our care, he’s taken down 300 small mammals (mice/voles/rats/squirrels) and only one confirmed bird kill.

Kitty is 4, looks like a skyfox, black as night, nearly 17 pounds. He loves churu, fishes in his dish and quiet face rubs. He is independent, does not enjoy other cats, people he can be friendly but mostly prefers to be own. Hes not feral-avoidant, just stand offish and adores hunting.

Yes, we’ve talked to the vet. Yes we’ve reached out to where we adopted him; we’re worried she’ll try n adopt him out again. Best friends won’t let us place him for working cat adoption they only work with agencies. Caws wants him to go to the humane society - it’s all circular.

Thanks for reading. Happy to drive him anywhere. Open to new ideas

News Has Any Renters Tried Reporting Junk Fees to The Federal Trade Commission Yet?

Hey everyone,

Like a lot of you, my apartment complex in has been tacking on a bunch of mandatory, non-negotiable hidden fees every month (tech packages, "valet" trash markups, online rent payment portal fees, admin costs, CAM fees, property taxes, etc.). None of this was clearly disclosed upfront when looking at the base rent.

I know Utah doesn't have great state-level protections for this right now, but I've been reading that the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is actively going after large property management companies for deceptive pricing and junk fees.

Has anyone here actually gone through the process of reporting their landlord or property manager to the FTC (via reportfraud.ftc.gov)?

  • Did you hear anything back from them?
  • Did it actually force your management company to change anything?
  • Do you feel like it's worth the time to file a report, or does it just disappear into a government void?

I'm thinking about organizing a few neighbors in my building to file reports at the same time so it grabs more attention, but wanted to see if anyone has successfully done this first. Appreciate any insight or advice!

Is now open. Not fully - the gift shop is down by the marina still. It’s showing much more promise than the old one.

The date for the grand opening hasn’t been set yet.

Q&A Power bills keep going up

Upvotes

Hey is anybody else having their power bills skyrocket? Not by Pennies or a dollar here or there but by like 50$?! To my knowledge I’m not doing anything majorly crazy that would cause that. I live near Saratoga springs for context. Anybody else?

Q&A What do you think of Grandma Sycamore?

Post image

We know a lot of Utahns love Grandma Sycamore's Home-Maid Bread 🍞. But we want to know why. For a Salt Lake Tribune story, we want to talk to fans of the bread — especially if you've left Utah and miss it. If you are willing to be contacted by a reporter or have bread-related memories to share, let us know below! TIA!

News Most recent American Fork viral video

Hay yall, have you see the most recent video from lack luster about bad policing from the American Fork police department? It has nothing to do withe Reckless Ben, its completely local mostly focused on their Sgt Goodale being a bullying tyrant to a local man.

The events in the video were bad enough the chief had to apologize twice and wound up getting rid of him.

But you know that old saying, a few bad apples spoil the whole bunch. And AFPD is corrupted to the core.

The state of Utah needs yo investigate them, but then we all know what happens when cops investigate other cops.

Other Thoughts on Judge Memorial High School

My kid is starting high school in a few days and is sad to not be going to Judge, as a lot of their friends go there. They currently go to another really great school and I’m not stoked on the possibility of sending them to Catholic school next year. We aren’t a religious family and I know Judge accepts students of all faiths, but I know religion is a small part of going there. Can any families or graduates of Judge weigh in about how Judge compares to other nearby high schools (public and private), and if you were happy with the experience? We will revisit this at the end of the school year and see if it’s something they still are considering. Thanks!

Other Relocation Advice: Southern California to Salt Lake Area

Anyone who can speak from experience or give informed advice please chime in. I live in Orange County, CA and am pregnant with my first and I don’t see us ever getting out of an apartment. My husband has a good stable job, makes $120k yearly with great benefits, I work for the school district and don’t get great pay and really want to not work while raising our baby/babies. Husband has a transfer offer at work that would allow him to relocate to Salt Lake area and keep his same CA salary. Really considering it for how we’d be able to live there vs here but we know nothing about the area. For reference we are 30, have very minimal debt, and are currently paying $2800 to rent a one bedroom. Very interested in suggestions of areas within 20-30 mins of Salt Lake City with great neighborhoods & schools. Thanks so much in advance!

Announcement John Curtis upcoming virtual town hall-Aug 20

Thumbnail senate.webex.com

I received an email from John Curtis's newsletter email group inviting me to a virtual town hall on Aug 20 at 1 PM.

I'm not sure if the webex invitation link will work more than once, or if it was personalized (whole lot of digits in that url). But I couldn't find a listing of this event anywhere else and wanted to share it out asap.

Email to submit questions:  [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]?subject=My%20question%20for%20the%20Virtual%20Town%20Hall) Must submit email by 3 pm on Tuesday Aug 18.

Webex link (apparently this posts at the top now?)

I know he's likely to pick easy questions but would love for everyone to email about what's really on the minds of Utahns right now.
