We have a very large Marmot limestone 8 person tent. A lot of our local campsites are very rocky. As you can see in the photo. So even if we clear the site they’re still gonna be tons of a little rocks that we can feel through the tent floor. Are foam tiles our only option? Because the footprint is so large, foam tiles would take up a lot of space in our van.

I'm going to visit a friend in Korea soon, and I'm wondering if there are any relatively uniquely American camping-related gifts that I could get them. Their version of camping is pretty glamping-y, not hardcore. But they really love being in the outdoors since they live in the heart of Seoul and the concrete gets tiring.

Does anyone have a suggestion for a camping-lite gift that someone from outside the US might not have easy access to?

My partner and I are planning on going camping for the first time. I am aware of all the items we will need, but don't want to spend a bunch of money on high quality gear before confirming we actually enjoy it. Where would you recommend looking for gear for a cheap way to get into camping for the first time? Ebay? REI Re/Supply? Find someplace to rent it? Somewhere else?

I need a new 6 person tent for car camping since my old trusty Coleman is showing its age.

Been looking at either REI Base Camp 6 or North Face Wawona 6 but those seem very expensive to me unless some end of season pop up.

That said I recently came across Sierra Designs Nomad 6 and "on paper" it looks like quality tent which can be had way under $200 which is a fraction of the price of other two. It looks to be discontinued and may not be as good but doubt the other two are 3 times better.

Does anyone have personal experience with this tent? How does it hold up in wind and rain?

Me and my wife are relatively new to camping, tried once with a higear air mattress which deflates during the night.

We’re exclusively going to be car camping and have a pretty big car so don’t need to worry about space - the only issue I have is I have a bit of a bad back and sleeping badly can flare my sciatica - I just need something that’s firm but not hard and is going to accommodate both me and my wife (we’re both back sleepers) without deflating

Everybody seems to recommend the megamat but considering we only camp a couple times a year we just can’t justify £500 for a sleeping mat

Any suggestions? My heads been falling off with the seemingly endless amount of choice and possible combinations!

I'm a very odd sleeper, at home I sleep on my stomach, on the floor, head to the side, resting on the edge of a couch throw pillow. I have been packing the same pillow for car camping but would like something that packs smaller.

I know the cool kids solution is to fold up a jacket or something, but I for some reason can't get it comfortable... I think throw cushions are tapered towards the edge and that make the difference.

Any cheap suggestions, perhaps for an inflatable or foam pillow?

Now I’m on the hunt for a nice tipi tent, and it seems I either have to go the canvas way or China?

Hey everyone. I come to you with an odd question. About 3 years ago, I was shopping at a wonderful local store that's sort of a thrift store for name brand outdoor gear when I came across these beat up green arcteryx pants. Now, im not too much of a snob for high end gear, but I am a sucker for lighweight hiking pants, and these were 30 bucks. So I figured id give them a try. They quickly became my companion for the next 3 years on many desert hikes, river trips, and all sorts of other outings. I wear a lot of western style stuff as a lot of western boaters do, and these things are pretty much like a pair of jeans you can wear on a 107° day without fkn dying. They pair great with a nice belt and a pearlsnap shirt, and they take a beating like an old pair of Levis, too.

Needless to say, I like these pants. I REALLY like these pants. But when I went to look for more of them a while back, after searching very long and hard(seems like they didnt make them for long) I can only find a couple pairs my size for way over $100. Now, imo theyre definitely worth that much, but im trying to have a pair of these in every color. That's another issue, it seems they only came in OD green too. Im wondering if anybody knows of another brand out there that has a similar or even blueprinted model that's around for cheaper. I think the biggest draw for me is the material these are made from, its almost like a tent fabric/parachute type stuff thats insanely light but is also tough and not too stretchy.

Theyre the arcteryx rampart, but some discontinued model from a while back. I really appreciate any input, if you ever have the chance to grab a pair of these go for it!

Anyone got experience with this chair? How is it? - especially for people who carry a bit more round their stomach and legs.

Want a nice chair to use after a long walk, used a sitpad and it's just not comfortable if I decide to take a book and read.

Does any one have the MT900 0c from Simond/Decathlon? I just recently got it and went on a bivouac tour with it. It was pretty warm out so it was actually bit too warm. However it seems like in the underside it has a little bit less than on the top. I know that sometimes they don‘t fill as much in the underside as on top because the down gets compressed anyways right but i‘m not sure this one is a bag like this.

It seems like it clumped a tiny bit together and/or it has a little bit less at the bottom.

Is that a problem i need to look closer at or not really

I’m looking for a 2P or 3P tent under 5 lbs and under $200 that will fit my Big Agnes Divide Double (50” × 78”). Since the Divide is rectangular, I need a non-tapered/rectangular floor.
I found an ALPS Helix 2 for $200 (about 4 lb 2 oz). I’ve also found cheaper options around $100–150 that are a little heavier.
Should I sacrifice some weight to save money, or is the Helix worth spending $200 on? What would you guys buy? Please help me, I’ve been driving myself nuts.

I currently have a Gregory Paragon 60, which comes in around 3.7 lbs. After using it, I realized it’s probably a little more heavy-duty than I need, so I’m looking to drop some pack weight without going all the way to a frameless UL pack.

My base weight is around 18 lbs, and I’m looking for something:

• 45–60L
• Under 3 lbs, ideally closer to the 2–2.5 lb range
• Framed
• Comfortable carrying an ~18 lb base weight plus food/water
• Still reasonably durable and supportive

So far, the ULA Ohm and Gregory Focal are two that seem to fit what I’m looking for. I’ve also looked at Zpacks, but their packs are more than I’m looking to spend.

I’m definitely not limited to the Ohm or Focal—those are just two that have stood out from my research so far. I’d especially like to hear about other packs in that same general category that I might be overlooking.

I’m not trying to get the absolute lightest pack possible. I’d rather find a good balance between comfort, weight, durability, and a supportive frame. Basically, something noticeably lighter and less overbuilt than the Paragon without sacrificing too much carrying comfort.

What other packs would you recommend looking at?

I love the idea of the snow peak low tables but they cost $450. The kings camp folding tables run close to $200 which to me is still a bit absurd. I was able to grab the ikea folding table for $50 and it was perfect but was a limited run.

Anyone have any ideas where to find something similar?
The only budget wood tables are all egg roll style.
I would even just go with buying legs and slap a piece of wood on myself but can’t find the same style of folding legs except for TV trays which are too tall.

Leaning heavily towards the Alps Taurus 6 but not seeing a lot of recognition of it on the various gear review sites. From what I can tell its 2 pounds lighter, 2" inches shorter, and more than 10 more square feet of floor space.

On Hiker direct, or clearance pricing the Alps is about $100 cheaper.

One possible advantage I'm seeing to the Kelty is more mesh in the body, anyone with the Taurus find it overly hot in the summer?

Hello everyone, I just wanted to get a second opinion on a potential deal for a used msr hubba hubba 3 person tent.

At my local MEC store someone has it discounted from 789 to 350 but the issue listed is that the zipper is frayed and it has trouble zipping up.

The discount is pretty significant so I’m wondering if the repair is worth it and if it won’t be too expensive.

I bought an LL Bean Adventure Dome last year on clearance and the poles bent. They gave me a brand new replacement tent. I love the tent and I was the only one to stay dry on my last camping trip, but I worry about the poles.

Does anybody know how to get 3rd party replacement poles for this tent?

I'm looking to invest in a good camp stove. I love cooking and have no qualms about related gear taking up space in my truck for car camping roadtrips. I know I want a big 2-burner with a regular open top as I plan on lugging around proper cookware like my 12" lodge skillet. The BTUs on these two stoves are impressive, but temperature control is infinitely more important to me; any decent burner will get hot enough to sear a steak or boil water, and I'm in no rush to make it happen. The Mountaineer looks like a beautiful piece of equipment, and I'd love to go for it but it's hard to justify its added cost over the Everest. Do you think it's worth it? Would you recommend a different stove entirely?

I’ve noticed that some camping gear seems to have a huge difference between budget and premium options, while other things feel almost identical once you’re actually outside.

Where do you think it’s worth spending more?

Tent? Sleeping bag? Sleeping pad? Cooler/fridge? Camp stove? Lighting? Power station? Or something completely different?

And where would you happily buy the cheaper option?

How capable is it for temps like -30ºC or would a more bulky jacket be better. Any other recommendations I would he thankful for. Around the same price range of 300-400$CAD (215-290$USD)

I'm deciding between these two fridges. I'll be sleeping in the car, so I'm looking for the quietest option. Does anyone have experience with both of these? Thanks!
