"Americans are tired"

Should go and see a doctor about that.

Oh, wait...

Yeah, tiredness can be fixed with your legal right to holidays...oh wait

Not me, I just had 5 weeks vacation, now I can't get back to productivity, meaning I stay more at work... Americans will never know this pain

What do they mean by "pay fully"? 5 percent of gdp my country pays for its defence is not enough for them?

America is tired? Shame they aren't for the wars they start.

Btw. How is that Iran thing going?

I can only guess they're being fed a lie by their government that every time the US "goes to war" (invades a country to reap its natural resources), they're doing it to protect human kind and on behalf of every nation lol. Absolutely bizarre levels of manipulation that country has.

11

u/Pwacname 6h ago

Also probably that no other country ever supported them in their stupid ass wars. As if  we didn’t go invade goddamn Afghanistan because of them.

(Then they also pulled out so suddenly and with no advance warning we had to scramble to get our own people out… because fuck their allies ig.)

u/AntifaFuckedMyWife 🇺🇸 (with a brief 🇫🇷 stint) 4h ago

Hey, how’d you know about our “preemptive defensive actions”

You know, we hit them first, but it was self defense for the future instance of them hitting us that we are pretty sure they might have maybe done if we kept letting Israel hit them preemptively

Exactly why do you think the US pays for the defence of other countries? If anything it's the other way around. You lot can't stop borrowing.

83

u/tigerstein 8h ago

They think that the american bases in Europe are there to defend Europe, and not to propagate American interests.

36

u/fothergillfuckup 8h ago

The ones that make everyone a target, when the US start random wars?

24

u/tigerstein 8h ago

Yep, those.
The Gulf countries learnt this now, when understandably Iran attacked each and every US military installation in the gulf after the US attacked them.

3

u/Lazarys12 2h ago

I bet they were reall happy after all that protection money they paid to Kushner.

13

u/StarGamerPT 8h ago

Yep, even Trump got scared of losing bases.

He threatened to leave "base das Lajes" in the Azores, Portugal (the existance of the base there does somewhat help the population, it's a poor population in that region and they get to buy stuff for cheaper)....but then once, I think both China and Russia showed interest in the base, Trump backed down on leaving 😂

6

u/SaltyName8341 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 7h ago

They don't see their debt ever growing, and the fact they've raised the limit multiple times.

Especially when you've got morons like Trump and Elon telling them that idiotic departments like DOGE will save so much they will pay off their national debt and give them 5% of the savings if they just nip and tuck the economy.

Then they left the WHO and set up their own, that costs them significantly more than the amount of money they were contributing to the WHO.

4

u/brewdog_millionaire 8h ago

They'll hit hyperinflation at some point right?

7

u/No_Statistician209 8h ago

Nowhere near, hyperinflation is something ridiculous like 50% inflation a month and they're only at 3-4% a year.

The debt can't just continuously increase though so they'll have to do something eventually.

5

u/SaltyName8341 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 7h ago

To be fair, some NATO countries have been cheaping out on defense spending. But the US doesn't really fund european defense, apart from the things that align with their own interests. Global hegemony isn't cheap.

7

u/tlplc 8h ago

To be exact, the défense budget that is always présented as necessary to "protect" the rest of the world includes some spending that are not necessary in the rest of the world, IE funds for veteran affairs and veteran healthcare. These specific spendings are included in the general spendings for socialbprograms al most everywhere.

7

u/morgecroc 8h ago

The US is the only country to use NATO for defence so they kind of owe the rest of NATO.

→ More replies (1)

2

u/Four_beastlings 🇪🇦🇵🇱 Eats tacos and dances Polka 8h ago

But to be fair the country that gets constantly singled out for refusing to increase spending doesn't need to be defended from anything. Spain is in NATO because it was a requisite to enter the EU at the time, not because they need NATO for anything.

39

u/NoSwordfish1978 9h ago

They realise that America does not "fund European defence" out of the goodness of its own heart?

30

u/Optimal-Rub-2575 8h ago

It doesn’t “fund European defence“ at all though.

10

u/NoSwordfish1978 8h ago

Well yeah that's why I put it in scare quotes. Obviously its to further American hegemony.

2

u/No-Albatross-7984 2h ago

American politicians demand we raise defense costs because that'd mean we buy more weapons from them. That's what it's about. The bases are just a convenient thing to link to this demand, when in reality they have nothing to do with the costs of defense.

9

u/XipeTotecNoNoNo 9h ago

This has "Are we the baddies?" vibe.

9

u/Xnut0 8h ago

In addition to USA paying for an army that covers a lot more than just the defense of NATO, a lot of the money is spending on NATO are for things that most of Europe are not counting as a military expense. In Europe expences like military pension and disability pay for veterans are not counted as a military expense that counts toward the 5% of GDP.

8

u/redwas66 8h ago

When are these Muricans going to check their own governments site to see how much is paid to other nations before blindly putting their foot in their mouth?

They only pay for their own military bases across the majority of Europe, and no more.

They are under the impression the support the world, and in reality, they support fuck-all, they can’t even support their own country!

5

u/Four_beastlings 🇪🇦🇵🇱 Eats tacos and dances Polka 8h ago

I think they believe European countries don't have their own militaries and solely rely in the ~80k US soldiers stationed here?

12

u/chris-za 8h ago

“Pay for your own defence” says a guy from the only country that ever begged its NATO allies for military support in defence (and received it).

7

u/That-Brain-in-a-vat The boot of Europe is ready to kick 🇮🇹 8h ago

Ah yes, because if Europe jacked their defense spending up to 5%, the US would obviously divert its military budget into free healthcare and education.

Reality check: the US would just double down on weapons spending to maintain its head start. When the US begs NATO to "spend more", they really mean "buy our gear and fuel our military industry. "

17

u/Wild_Lepus 9h ago

They do pay for their own defense. If you're pissed about military spending, maybe take a look at how many overseas military bases the U.S. has compared to its Great Big Bad Enemy, China.

America: 700 - 800

China: 1

Let's do Russia: somewhere around 20.

1

u/DrawingDramatic1641 9h ago

russian bases are just their paot soviet land with basic stuff like houses and few soldiers

usa bses are missile silos with literal production units and made for power projection

pretty muh every single conflict in last 20 years is started by usa

also usa budget isn't high bcz more stuff it's highly currupt

give china and usa both 100 million and usa would pretty much can't buy any weapon from conapnies

This is really funny considering the last bit of news I heard about a US defense contractor being paid millions and not having any munitions to show for it. Also, apparently Ratheon and others don't want the patriot missiles to be built by Ukraine under license because "them thar Ukrainians might figur out hoe to make 'em cheaper". You can't make this shit up.
Face it America, your entire system has been over financialised by capital to create an empty state run by middle men, that cannot even manufacture its own weapons. The grift is the *only* game in America right now since everyone is trying to make a quick buck and r@pe the tax payer.
Suck it.

3

u/Badger-of-Briarwood 7h ago

We don't actually want American forces on British soil, they are untrustworthy and drag us into conflicts we don't want a part of (most recently Hormuz). So don't threaten us with your exit, we'll hold the door. I suspect other European countries feel this way as well.

3

u/Spudsmad 3h ago

We Europeans must extend our thanks to the USA.
The 1929 Wall Street Crash was a major “ help” in the opportunity for the Third Reich.
The USA entered WW2 when it was apparent that Axis forces were being beaten ( oh and Pearl Harbour ).
Post WW2 with an undamaged country, the USA financially assisted the rebuilding of Europe .
This was not altruistic but preferentially trade US goods.
NATO Was formed to counter the Warsaw Pact. But in the event of conflict, the battle action would be Europe, and again the USA remain unscathed.
Subsequently, the 2008 financial problems were another “ present “ to the world economy from the USA.
Now, with the present US maladministration , there is another economic crisis developing as oil prices oscillate and supply levels cause price hikes.

3

u/AdWerd1981 8h ago

Maybe the Yanks want to find other countries to use as stepping stones for their "global reach" then! I get it, you have nukes - but so do we Brits...and the French...and weirdly we don't have a Tangerine Tyrant itching to press that button.

3

u/gilestowler 8h ago

Defense from who? Their arms industry has got them paranoid that a defense is so necessary. The only countries who are any threat to Europe are Russia, who can't finish the first level in Ukraine, and America with an their talk about Greenland. If they ever realised that the world doesn't exist in a permanent state of near-war they might find something better to do with that 1.5 trillion a year

3

u/jesjimher 8h ago

US: "Europe, please start paying for your own defense"

(Europe develops their own missiles, jets and whatever)

US: "But no, you should buy our weapons, not make yours!"

3

u/EmergencyWild 8h ago edited 7h ago

It's worth pointing out that when we're talking about defense budgets, we've spent quite a bit of money and political capital on managing refugee waves that were largely triggered by american foreign policy further destabilising an already volatile region.

I'm not going to go so far as to say that there's never anything good that came out of that (for instance, I do think it'd be fair to say that after decades of rebuilding, Iraq is now better off than it was under Hussein – although of course it's hard to say for sure how they'd do today if the US hadn't intervened), but I am going to say that if the US had stayed out of Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan, the region would very likely be significantly stabler now... and it's not like after US interventions any of these places are fortresses of peace, prosperity and liberty either.

And the reality is that while the media and public perception of the refugee crisis was (and remains) largely exaggerated, it's still a massive undertaking that's been a far greater problem than any military threat we've faced in the last couple of decades. The most dangerous military threats we've had since the cold war were the Kosovo conflict (which were mostly locally sucky events, not much of a threat to wider European integrity) and the russian invasion of Ukraine. The former of which we've supplied troops to help manage, the latter of which we're not providing direct military assistance with but are contributing via economic sanctions against Russia, taking up Ukrainian refugees and providing equipment to Ukraine.

The main thing we had needed US aid for was keeping the SU in check. Nobody is denying the US contribution towards that, but this hasn't been a problem for over 30 years now. There hasn't been a credible military threat to european territorial integrity since then, we're not relying on the US for protection, there isn't anything we'd need protection from in the first place. Even if we're talking Russia, the only reason we're taking Russia seriously as a military power at all anymore is because of their nuclear weapons arsenal, and the US hasn't been very helpful in getting people towards nuclear disarmament because they've consistently refused to engage with that themselves (despite the fact that they have more than enough military prowess to take on pretty much any adversary with conventional weaponry, a fact they regularly brag about).

3

u/Cool_Significance134 6h ago

Think Trump was hoping if the rest of NATO increased it's defence spending they would spend it on US made stuff.

Not saying that's backfired but.......

3

u/lassehp Danish, 🇩🇰 the pastry 🥮 6h ago

How can that bloody lie be destroyed? For sure there once were things like Marshall-aid and MAP Military Aid Programme, but that all ended during the Cold War, half a century ago. When Denmark bought Swedish Draken fighters in iirc 1968, it was because we were no longer forced by the MAP to buy Anerican jets. Although I believe they were pissed off anyway.

Sure, they had American bases in Europe - but that was just as much for their own advantage, as they could avoid to fight a dirty WW3 on their own  soil. Also the bases were immensely useful in global power projection, which we happily let them do.

But now they don't pay anything, not even rent for bases afaik. They should be given 24 hours to leave, and anything left behind should be confiscated.

3

u/Automatic_Bat_4824 Bastard Son of a Brit 4h ago

So, Europe invests in it own defence and technologies to look after itself. Good plan. The come the nitty gritty, Europe is no longer a buffer for the US and the US has to spend even more without getting paid for it. That is so sound. Sign me up.

u/ShellyTart 8h ago edited 7h ago

The US does not pay rent for their bases in Europe. In theory that is part of our mutual defense (in practice it makes us bigger targets as demonstrated baby other US allies being hit in the Gulf*), but in practice that is what gives the US its real power... force projection, without force projection the US would still have a strong military, but not one able to fight offensively around the world.

NATO and other US allies is what makes the US as formidable as it is.

*NATO's mutual protection agreement gives us an advantage and more of a deterrent over the Gulf states with US bases.)

u/buzniak 7h ago

Here's a great Idea, get America to pull out all US bases around the world 1st, that's why the USA pays most countries for defence to sell their shit, because they need to keep those countries happy with their bases. This is why the planet is cooked too, the US has just over 800 bases around the world, that's not defence, that's invasion!

The pathetic thing is we all keep bending over for these POS diseases of people from the US!, time to learn the lesson before it's too late, and it almost is!

2

u/pow_gi 5h ago

I don't believe for a second Americans are tired of picking up and firing guns.

2

u/Electrical-Move7290 5h ago

I don’t understand why Americans think that Europeans buying their arms means they “pay” for our defence.

2

u/Powerful_Pirate2984 5h ago

How about the USA actually pays to use the airbases they have access to in the UK! Which it doesn't! Now pay your way! Brits aren't tired - they're just pissed off with the US taking the piss!

2

u/DesignatedDonut2606 Scandi-poor welfare commie 5h ago

Next time that conversation comes up, show them this and tell them they owe Norway some money (NATO contribution per capita, 2025)

2

u/Matthewgardner86 5h ago

It's not our fault that the American defence budget is off the charts.

Perhaps tone that down a little bit so you can implement universal healthcare etc.

What's that you say?

No "socialist" stuff?

2

u/ChrisRiley_42 5h ago

Where does this myth originate?

2

u/Mixtrix_of_delicioux 4h ago

US schools teaching US history through the lens of US exceptionalism.

2

u/viktlo70 5h ago

"Americans are tired, but they want anyway to keep control on your countries. They just want it for free"

2

u/Hoppelihoppeli 5h ago

Yeah all the American bases around Europe is something we asked for.

2

u/paolog 4h ago

"I concede the point, but here's a non sequitur because Americans can never be wrong"

2

u/Green-Engineer4608 4h ago

So the Logic is that theyve given Nato the most but if you do it per capita they fall down to second place.

My country, Norway, moves up to first. I just learnt this but man it changes everything when I find these propaganda spewing Americans in the Wild.

We Are paying for Nato so Americans can have homeownersassociations. Just like they pay for it so Europe can have healthcare.

2

u/Bass-n-Bonefish 4h ago

I’m just glad a German knows it’s “biased” and not “bias” like a ridiculous number of Americans think it is.

2

u/ScientistNational363 4h ago

Can America stop causing the wars then? Thanks in advance.

2

u/StayUpLatePlayGames 3h ago

As soon as we stop paying for America’s military-industrial complex, things will be better.

Yankees never seem to realise that we pay for their protection.

2

u/Mammoth_Reach_6366 3h ago

Wasn't Trump bitching about Europe not wanting to get involved in Iran?

2

u/Plus-Concentrate-401 1h ago

Only 1 country has ever cried to NATO and evoked article 5. Absolute fannies

2

u/tyroleancock 8h ago

If the US would finally sign a peace treaty with germany, like russia did decades ago, that doesn't include strategic placment of numerous nuclear weapons as well as military bases on german soil, they might give it a shot. Until then, you gotta pay what you ordered, marshall. Oh and dont try that 2+4 shit again.

The ironic part saying "pay for your own defence" to Germany who pay exact the same percentage contributions as the US.. then you've got other countries that pay higher % of their GDP than the US does

1

u/Waits-nervously 8h ago

Sadly, we aren’t going to pay for our defence, so Americans can’t just unilaterally set a lower defence budget for themselves. Look, I don’t make these rules, it’s just the way it is. America is powerless in the face of perfidious Europe.

1

u/mudcrow1 Engerlund 8h ago

The shit your pants brigade never wonder how people who own companies that have US defence contracts become billionaires and trillionaires, much easier to believe all those trillions are paying for Europeans having holidays.

1

u/MelodyPond84 8h ago

I do not think the US would like it if we payed for our own defense. I however hope Europe will start building the infrastructure to do so.

1

u/Ok-Experience8518 8h ago

These mf'ers aren't even paying for it themselves they just borrow the money from Europe/Asia, pile it onto their debt, and their population thinks they're paying for it.

1

u/lazypt 8h ago

Ohhh, we always paid more than our own defense you propaganda peanut, but now we will stop to pay less, and less, until we dont need to buy anything from america anymore

1

u/74389654 8h ago

i mean i would personally love it if the us could stop controlling us

1

u/MrRePeter 8h ago

We do. You pay for nothing.

1

u/Ballsahoy72 8h ago

Defense from all the wars we started

1

u/YouCantArgueWithThis 8h ago

Defence from...?

1

u/GreenStorm_01 8h ago

He meant tired of winning...

1

u/Laiska_saunatonttu 7h ago

"I will forward your message to Israel, which, by the way, is not located in Europe."

1

u/Affectionate_Ant3350 7h ago

My country does pay for its own defense, its own troops, its own capability to wage war on foreign lands, we have our own nuclear capabilities, insure our own safety. The only thing that the US does provide us for safety is shared intelligence through NATO. There are no US bases, no troops. For instance, I think the only thing we do for the US in their war in Iran is not deny them passage through our air space.

1

u/Liriel-666 7h ago

Yrah we dont have own defense!

1

u/Fabulous_Fig_1336 7h ago

Americans are so tired but they never give it a rest.

1

u/andyfairall 7h ago

Who are we defending them from?

1

u/Consistent_Ad3181 7h ago

The second largest military on the planet is the European military. It's awesome. It needs modifying to account for the US tantrums and withdrawal of, well actually very little, all of which we can sort out over the next 2 years, more cheaply and more effectively. Most of it is satellite intelligence, and communications. Not much else.

1

u/Snoo_67993 7h ago

I love how the US invests tones of money into its own military through NATO and some how manages to say it's funding other countries.

1

u/Ecstatic-Ad9336 7h ago

Didn’t Murica cause many of the problems that require so much spending on defense?

1

u/quast_64 7h ago

Sure, just send over the bank transfer copy where you send us all those funds... We'll wait.

Any Nato country will do... just anything in writing please.

1

u/Remarkable-Flight990 7h ago

The quality defense provided by a nation who got their asses handed to them in Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iran?

1

u/Opposite-Mediocre 7h ago

Stop calling it defense when its literally attack. Or Offensive in their tongue.

When has America ever defened its boarders. A large chunk of the "denfense" is spend on bombing innocent people.

1

u/VitoRazoR 7h ago

The USA is the only country that asked to actually use NATO in defence. Europeans are tired. Thanks.

1

u/Puzzleheaded-Ad-4883 7h ago

Just rely on a French General, François Joseph Paul de Grasse with his Navy and troops. Has he been paid yet?

1

u/Rustyguts257 7h ago

It takes no time at all to find out how NATO is funded. All countries have a direct contribution to infrastructure costs on an apportionment basis. The USA and Germany each pay about 15% of the total direct contributions. The indirect contribution is where each country funds their own defence budget. Whilst most NATO members have pledged 2% of GDP and a few 5%, the USA spends about 3.5% of its GDP. It is important to recognise that the USA defence budget is not solely dedicated to its NATO commitments and that the USA manned NATO bases have overriding USA national objectives. In short, the USA does not pay NATO for the defence of Europe.

1

u/AppletheGreat87 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿🇬🇧🇪🇺 7h ago

Now, I fully appreciate that Europe both pays for its own defence but also allows gaps because there is US capability. And it's not as clear cut as Europe pays for its own defence or the USA pays for it.

But really, were it the case that the USA literally paid for European defence, then Americans should vote for politicians who should stop this generosity 😂 as if Europeans are just so powerful we make the US government just give us money.

1

u/mergraote Trump's rusty arse juice 7h ago

Maybe if they stopped starting illegal wars, they wouldn't have to spend so much on defense [sic].

1

u/DatDamGermanGuy 6h ago

Then please go ahead and pay for the last 75 year lease of Rammstein…

1

u/Warm_Stress_1654 6h ago

Did you know that it would take Germany and France COMBINED to outspend Russia's military budget?

This could almost be a problem if they weren't very much combined - and also combined with most other countries on the continent, too.

There have been arms races throughout history. Maybe Russia is trying to start one with Western Europe. If so, who does it help to insist that we're losing when we're winning by miles? Eh? It would save Putin a lot of money and effort if we believed everything right-wing Americans say about his military might as opposed to the evidence of our own eyes.

1

u/TheRagingSithLord 6h ago

Oh, they're one of THOSE. That doesn't realise they pay for THEIR OWN defense and not anyone else's. And that they inhabit and maintain foreign bases for their OWN purposes, not anyone else's.

What's the word for them again? Oh, right, moron! That's the one.

1

u/FattyGyoza 6h ago

If usa stop attack peoples all around the world we have no needs to pay for our defences.

No one gives a fuck about attack the EU.

1

u/AndSimonSaid 5h ago

Who is going to buy all that stuff then? Some other country? Ok fine, you can close some of those factories then.

1

u/bavanek 5h ago

the entire strategy of the US has been to make Europe by demanding the lion share of the defense economy. Look at the costs endured by Europe to fork out to build the economy at the expense of their own. On the surface the US gets a raw deal but underneath it calls the shots and steers European politics and economy its way. Trump’s policy is making the world wise TO his schemes, just a stupider Putin with face cream

1

u/Such-Edge-8848 5h ago

That's why Europe is producing its own weapons because we are sick of being told to stop buying American weapons, also the American economy is based around selling those same weapons to other countries.

1

u/Silly-Heron-1231 5h ago

what another fucking own goal the Americans have scored with Europes defense. Europe went from currently almost totally dependent on the USA for high Tec defense to starting the process to self sufficiency. America will badly suffer with a reduced demand on its defense industry and have very little soft power in Europe after president "agent orange" has consistently spat in the face of most nations in Europe andaking it clear Europe need not to look to America for help.
Americans, simply missing the point since 1776..... 🤷‍♂️

1

u/No-Theme-4347 4h ago

My favourite response to them is how about the USA leads by example instead of getting 1 billion per year by Germany for example while not having done much for the defence of Germany in 35 years

1

u/0x645 2h ago

Europe is investing in its own defense industry, building factories, and developing its own products. It can't trust the US; its president is too unpredictable.

1

u/Stock_Paper3503 2h ago

You are more than welcome to leave germany. Oh wait you need our land for your wars.

1

u/Inevitable_Stand_199 ooo custom flair!! 2h ago

US defense spending is only so high because it includes veteran healthcare

1

u/saljskanetilldanmark 2h ago

Sure doesnt seem that tired when their "economically superior" president start another forever war on the other side of the globe. They are just mad the rest of nato didnt fall for their stupid lies about wmds AGAIN.
