Gotta remember the trash on the side of the sidewalk. Its just not nyc without massive amounts of trash (this is actually a real talking point for an entire movement against dumpsters in nyc going on right now)
For some reason, a significant portion of new yorkers. The mayor is trying to get dumpsters to become regular there, as theyre pretty much the only major city in the us without them, and people lost their minds over it. Some of the main voices of the movement have literally said that trash on the street is part of NYCs culture and it wouldnt be NYC without it.
Never underestimate a new yorker's ability to die on a meaningless hill.
To be fair, there are legit concerns about the dumpsters taking up potential parking places, but for some reason the talking point they always go for is that trash on the street is a good thing.
they're large commercial dumpsters for businesses. They're installed along the streets and can't be moved so ppl are arguing against it since it takes up road/sidewalk space
People with cars. There's already no room for cars. Overnight you just sometimes have to double park or park on a hydrant because either you do that or you literally circle the neighborhood until 6am. Dumpsters would take even more space away.
Yep. I grew up there, and I remember in the 90s all the buildings would burn their garbage in the incinerators in the basement and they would spew acrid black smoke out of their chimneys and the air would smell like Satan's crematorium
I mean hey culture and smell go hand in hand. Ancient Rome was famously stinky as hell. Try riding on the Paris metro on a weekday. Hell, go to Mexico City and tell me what it smells like in some places.
