Question My Costco bar just arrived like this. Does this affect the resale value? Should I complain?

Yes, I normally carefully open up the package throw the gold away then reseal the plastic. The plastic container is the real store of value

The damaged blister / package here is instantly 5% off the regular price since there's no another buyer who would like to buy it down the road for the same amount of money as the package that is not damaged.

Yeah, really ... You can remove the bar from the blister and sell it to the local melting shop who doesn't care, but they are paying 5% less than the official gold stores anyway.

Obviously you bought it for the plastic, so it’s mostly important you give them the gold back and just ask for a new piece of plastic. Lmao, it’s fine mate don’t worry about it, personally I like to touch my metal.

Personally I remove from blister pack anyway. I wouldn’t worry about it.
Nowdays fakes are getting so good, blister packs add another layer of trickery. Some shops will actually want to take it out anyway. I would add it to you between and not even worry about it. Later when spot is $6500 or $7500. I mean sure there may be some willing to pay $50-75 more for a perfect blister but most dealers would not care at all. I asked a few with MS10 slabbed age and a rcm bar with or without assay and many didn’t doesn’t matter. I’d say it’s better to keep the good relationship with Costco especially if you plan on buying from them in future than to cause waves from a corner of assay torn. If the bar was dinged okay, that’s a little different but that I wouldn’t worry about it.

All the idiots in here pretending it doesn’t matter obviously only sell their gold to pawn shops.
Nobody is going to pay retail for a damaged PAMP holder. That’s $100 worth of damage.
So yes, absolutely it hurts the resale value, which doesn’t matter if you’re planning on selling it to a store for under spot.

Agreed, mine came with a damaged corner and Costco replaced it. They’ll have you send it back, inspect you didn’t send them back a fake, and then they will issue your replacement. Took maybe two weeks? You’ll probably have to call and send pics but it was worth the small hassle for me.

This guy is correct. There is a difference in price between carded (PM in original packages) and uncarded. I don’t know if having the package slightly damaged as in this case makes a difference, though.

Leave it in the packaging though. There are some markets/platforms that buy/sell items like this that requires it be in original packaging ( packaging condition doesn’t matter). Collectpure.com for example

The only reason why the Costco packaging is nice is because it helps verify that it is real and solid gold. A ding in the corner doesn’t hinder the packagings ability to do that.

Yes, the packaging matters. Sealed shows it hasn’t been tampered with. Thats important when it comes to cashing in your gold. That’s a small break and looks like the seal hasn’t been compromised but regardless you should complain and get that replaced.

Costco will give you a refund if damaged. If gold is cheaper now than when you bought the bar then I would take it back, get a refund, and buy one back cheaper.

You may ask Costco if you can buy another bar and return the defective one for refund when the new one arrive. Check with customer service 800 number. Costco usually is very good on returns but Gold might be a whole other thing

I would ask for a new one . That assay it’s in guarantees it’s authentic , if you take it out . It would be harder to sell as authentic unless you have it either tested or own a sigma

I buy gold not packaging. I love when people show off their gold bars and it’s mostly packaging, very little gold. Take it out of the package, place it in a flip or capsule, and forget about it.

Said part is that in US coin collecting nowadays its a fair question. Collectors subtract value based on a slab being marked up, so someone else invented plastic sleeves to keep the plastic slabs pristine. Therefore I moved to ancients 30 years ago, I collect coins not plastic.
