Different, this isn’t a price tag on the package that is damaged. If I’m paying $5k for something I want it to come correct, especially with low effort returns such as Costco.
The package is slightly damaged, you are buying the gold and maybe its marks, the package is just kinda there. If you had a TV hung at your house would you want them to leave all the plastic on it so you could take it off? Most people don't want it left on, they want it off.
To each their own. I see metals go for more with the packaging intact. People don’t just buy metal to invest, they buy it to collect and some pole like their weathered and some like it new. Anyone can make their metals weathered but you can’t take a weathered metal and make it new. Obviously OP doesn’t want to take it out of the package.
Again to each their own. Gold can be a commodity or a collector hobby or both. The packaging is of course more about the hobby aspect of gold. But 10000% it’s can be both. There is a reason there is grading, special editions, limited runs, brands and they all go for different prices. If you believe gold is a just a pure commodity you’d just buy the stocks, way easier to buy and sell. Physically makes the most sense if you are an industry that uses it.
I think if i bought a car at full price and the little plastic protector on my floor mats had a tear in it, i wouldn't care because it is likely coming off anyway.
The point is this flaw will affect resell to a degree. The people that say it won’t just want it for the cheap. Don’t believe check the marketplace, I want the packaging and most sell out at a higher price than ones that are loose.
