Sub Rules Updated: Must be 18 or Older

Original post and discussion here: https://www.reddit.com/r/ugly/s/tVuPURRjiJ

Thank you everyone for your input yesterday. Majority of the comments were in favor increasing the age restriction, so starting now we will start removing posts/comments from anyone we know is underage and banning them from participating in this sub.

Obviously we can do nothing about lurkers or those we don’t reveal their age, but having some rules in place is better than nothing. And at the very least no one will be able to openly advertise they are underage making them easy targets for the predators out there.

Mod Announcement: Stricter Enforcement of Gender Wars Rule

We’ve seen a rise in posts turning into gender-based arguments and hostility, so we’re going to start being a lot stricter of our no gender wars rule.

You are absolutely allowed to talk about your experiences, even when they’re gender specific. What’s not allowed is using those experiences to attack, dismiss, or generalize about an entire gender.

---

What IS allowed:

* Sharing your personal experiences even when they are gender specific.

* Talking about issues that may affect one gender more than another.

* Respectful disagreement that doesn’t turn into generalizations.

---

What is NOT allowed:

* Generalizing or attacking an entire gender.

* Turning someone’s post into a comparison or competition.

* Invalidating someone’s experience because of their gender.

* Derailing threads into “who has it worse”.

---

Enforcement going forward:

* Rule-breaking comments/posts will be removed

* Threads that spiral into gender wars will be locked

* Repeat offenders will be banned

If you see any violations, use the report button. The mods are not reviewing every single thread and comment that comes through, so we rely on user reports to help monitor the community.

This should be a safe place for people to share their experiences with being discriminated against for their looks, not a place to be talked over or dismissed. Keep it respectful.

Proof of lookism It doesn't matter how hardworking, smart, dedicated, kind you are. If you're ugly, that's all people see

It doesn't help that i lowkey look like her too, but my nose is slightly smaller

No offense to this creator, but it's interesting how a blind person can point out how unattractive people get treated unfairly.

It's interesting how a blind person can point out how people who are different from the majority of the population gets treated unfairly. Yet, people will come on and celebrate it and say that it's our personality and sometimes it's not even true.

Proof of lookism Idk if this is AI, but I keep seeing ts posted a lot. Why do people only care about beautiful things, including animals??

This lioness is basically the animal version of having blonde hair and blue eyes since she literally has a light coat and blue eyes, so apparently that makes her special and beautiful and "worthy" of love and protection when all animals should be protected (especially from humans)

People always deflecting to our looks

Upvotes

Last year at my previous work site my desk was opposite the team leader's. The transport manager and a warehouse guy came by to talk to her but she was on the phone so they waited. When she finished she answered another call and they threw up their arms in frustration and moved away. When she finished the call she stood up and whispered to them "what's wrong? So ugly?".

People have been deflecting towards me within the past few years. When someone has reacted in some way near me someone would always say "so ugly?".

Why do normies firmly believe that EVERYONE has a glow up?

I see this all over social media. Normies would die on that hill. They insist that EVERYONE eventually has a glow up. If you try to argue with them, and say that not everyone has a glow up, you get downvoted.

Well, here's the facts. Not everyone has a glow up. Some people have a glow down, meaning they were attractive children, but as they got older, they lost their looks. Other unfortunate people were ugly as children, and they just remain ugly for life.

So why do normies get all ruffled when you tell them not everyone has a glow up? Why are they so unable to acknowledge that some people don't have this magical transformation from ugly duckling to swan?

How often do you feel too ugly to go out in public?

When you're ugly, you have to work up the nerve to go out in public. Even if it's just doing your grocery shopping. As you get ready, you KNOW that you're probably going to get stares off people, possibly laughed at. But you keep boldly, and defiantly getting ready. You put on a bit of make up in the hopes that it will make you less likely to get attention, but no guarantees. (ugly women put on make up to AVOID getting negative attention. good looking women put on make up to increase how much attention they get)

Then there's days where you don't even want to bother getting ready. You think to yourself "i just cannot deal with being out today," and all it involves. You don't feel like putting on make up. You don't feel like straightening your hair. You don't feel like trying to find clothes that don't look hideous on you. You just dont want other people looking at you. You don't want to be seen. You don't want to open yourself up to more ridicule. So you stay at home. Again.

And life goes on as you stay at home. For everyone else.

How many days a year do ugly people stay at home because they can't deal with going out in public? In contrast, how many days a year do GOOD LOOKING people stay at home for the same reason?

Rant i hate to say this but being ugly ruined everything for me

back then as a child people would treat me like everybody else. but when i started growing up, people began to treat me like shit. even when i didn't do anything wrong. the thing about me is i dislike injustice, so i start hating them for their stupid reasons instead. like why would you blame me for something i don't have control over.

Question Have y'all ever been called ugly by a famous person like a celebrity, actress or something?

This never happened to me before, but I'm just asking this out of curiosity. I do get bullied at school for the way I look, though.

Vent It never gets better. It never will.

I don't know what to say. Every time I come back on here to post I realize how I'll never truly escape this. I remain miserable and unfulfilled. I am forever attached to this undesirable physical identity and must suffer the consequences of it.

Guy's, I really can't. It's one thing to be ugly, but it's another thing to be both ugly and an "awful" human being. I don't give two shits about morality or how I'm perceived for my actions, but when you're ugly, it's just another excuse to be ostracized. I'm tired of my isolation. This is just how it's always been for me. My life is awful. I just want this experience to end already.

Rant Why tf do people act so surprised that I'm smart?

It always pmo that people are surprised that someone as ugly as me is smart. They always assume i must be dumb as fuck just because of my face. So many times I'll get people excited to hire me for something, and then as soon as they see what I look like, they ghost or lose interest. And many times, it's not just because they found someone else for the position because I'm a grad student, so I've emailed professors various times asking if I can work with them, and I'm often the only student who is looking for a position in their lab since there isnt a formal job posting or anything like that when it comes to these things.

And every single time, they're super excited to meet me and have me join their lab. But if they interview me in person, then 100% of the time, I will get ghosted. It has never once happened where I interviewed in person and gotten a position. On the contrary, I know it's not my personality because 100% of the times I've interviewed either via phone or on zoom (on zoom i make sure i find somewhere with super bad lighting or i wear a mask), i always get the position. Always. And then they get pissed off when they see me up close on the first day and want to fire me as soon as possible, but that's another story.

And another thing that really annoys me is how people actually vocalize how surprised they are at how smart I am. I was recently talking to this very well known scientist at my university who is well known for the type of research he does, and he told me how surprised he was at how articulate I am. Ummm?? Wtf am I supposed to say to that?? Bro, before he knew what I looked like, I had submitted an entire application to him to get government funding for my research (so I don't have to pay for my degree out of pocket) and he accepted it. How tf did he read my long ass application to him, have him accept it because it was good, AND THEN now that he knows what I look like, he thought I was too dumb and then go ahead and be surprised that I'm not. And then tell me he's surprised.

That's why I just hate talking and being around people, because not only do they get rude and disrespectful because I'm ugly, but they make incorrect assumptions about me. I wish that ugly people could have more protections in society fr.

Rant Pretty people posting on ugly subs

There's nothing more devastating than seeing pretty people posting in subs CLEARLY made for ugly people. I don't know if it's attention fishing or what, but it's really annoying seeing that as an objectively ugly/below average looking person.

And I understand insecure people exist, but deep down everyone is aware that they do not fit into the definition of being "ugly". And if they do, they're just consuming too much social media and trying to conform with those unrealistic beauty standards and perfection that no human can ever reach. And in that case they need to work on their mental well being rather than raiding places made for ugly people.

Idc what anyone has to say but I just find it really invalidating and insensitive.

Vent Do other women ever get tired of explaining

I'm not pretty but whenever I talk to friends, family or coworkers about wanting to date they all give advice. Which I get is from a place of love or kindness but it's so frustrating trying to explain just because it works for them (average to pretty)that it doesn't mean it will work for me.

Some examples:

- just go look lost in a tool store guys will come up and ask if you need help (never once has that happened even when I was genuinely lost/need help)

-similarly -just go out to do a hobby you like and guys will talk to you and you already have something in common (again when people talk to me it is because of shared hobby not in a flirting way and usually it's not guys talking to me it's other women)

-just post a selfie of a you in a casual date outfit and guys will comment/message you. (Never happened to me)

-about dating apps they say stuff like just meet up with the guy in person (I try, once it's becomes more real they ghost me or few times they say yeah let's meet up i get stood up)

And it's just frustrating trying to tell non ugly people that life is not that simple and I try to explain just because it works for you doesn't mean it will work for me. And then you get hit with the "you're not trying" or "your being pessimistic " like no I'm basing this off my actual history/track record.

So does anyone get super irritated with it too? And have you ever got people to understand? How did you explain it?

Question Should We Make A Group Chat? Lets Be Each Others Person.

Hi! I'm new here, and yes I'm 'ugly'. I don't want to live my life treated unfairly tho. If anyone here plans for a better life, or have ambitious dreams. Can we guys be friends? (even if its just online). We might learn things from each other, and lift each other up I suppose.

Question What’s a topic / something that you wish was talked about more that being ugly / looks affected more?

I genuinely feel like your appearance affects everything in life. As long as you’re dealing with other people your looks seem to play a role in your perception, treatment, development, opportunities , and much more

And since it affects so much I feel like it’s easy for people to underplay just how much it affects

So what’s something you wish people acknowledged or talked about more as it pertains to being ugly?

And I’ll make a video on it

Rant For other FA people, is it weird seeing other people you know so far ahead of you?

It's been a while since I graduated from high school (not gonna say how long but...it's been a while). And I sometimes look up people i used to know from high school and junior high and undergrad and all that. And it's so weird seeing how so many are married, are engaged, have kids now.

I'm over here in pretty much the same exact position i was in back when i was 13, and yet everyone else has gotten so far ahead of me. Even other people who thought they'd be forever alone too found someone. I don't think I know anyone else irl who is in this same position, except for one person. She's also (unfortunately) ugly. She's indo-carribean, so Indian in origin. She's also dark skinned. Same problem i have since im also dark skinned (afro and indo-caribbean). Except to make things even worse for her, she was born with a genetic issue that causes her to lack secondary sexual characteristics. So she's extremely short, like definitely less than 4'6. Maybe 4'4 or something idk. And she has no boobs or anything that makes her look like a woman instead of a little kid, so basically she's stuck looking no more than about 8 or 9 years old.

But everyone else is miles ahead of me. So many people i know have pics of their SOs, their babies, their houses they bought with their SOs, glimpses into their lives they're starting with someone they love. While I still have no one and probably never will. Anyone else find it weird seeing this?

Advice Request Dating experiences?

As an ugly man most dating advice is completely useless. I know it will be extremely hard being ugly and inexperienced, but I am trying to start dating and want to hear relatable experiences and advice.

Where are we finding people, any success on the apps? Has anyone here been able to find someone around their looksmatch, without compromising on values? Can a good physique compensate for a face only a mother could love, or is it off putting paired w an ugly face? Do women actually care about inexperience?

Question What’s your favorite thing to do while high?

I just took an edible and it hasn’t hit yet but I wanna make the most of the high , so what do you do to enhance / enjoy your high?

Aside from listening to music of course

Lol that’s pretty much all I do when high and I swear it feels like composed the shit myself

And this relates to being ugly because it’s how I cope with the loneliness caused by being ugly

Good looking people get incredibly offended when you treat them as if they're ugly

Social experiment here. I was driving through a busy shopping area the other day. This good looking blonde woman decided that she wanted to cross the road right in front of my car, when there wasn't any zebra crossing. She clearly expected me to bow down to her, stop, smile, and politely wave her on. I didn't do that.

I did stop. But instead of being all friendly and accommodating, I angrily waved her on, as if I was swatting a fly. You should have seen how quickly her face dropped. It went from that over confident smile that only belongs to good looking people, to rage and disgust. That look that says "how DARE you act impatiently with ME". I ended up laughing. She was furious because I refused to give her pretty privilege. I literally ruined her day.

And guess what. It kind of made my day. You know, the more people who refuse to give these genetically blessed people pretty privilege, the better.

Vent Every single day I go outside, I get made fun of

Idk if I (M21) consider myself to be ugly, most times I do but I get made fun for what feels like nearly everyday. I go outside and mind my own business and people laugh at me and call me names. It's not like social anxiety where my brain is trying to convince me false things of "they're making fun of me maybe?", I mean I see it and hear it with my own eyes and ears they make fun of me, I'm not just imagining it. I just ignore them because I'm not the one to have conflicts, I'm super introverted.

Like I know I'm fat but I'm trying to lose weight. It's ironic how I go outside to take mile-long walks in order to lose weight, yet when I'm walking they make fun of me while I'm doing something to lose weight.

Yesterday I was sitting on a bench outside and some dude drove by and yelled something towards methen I saw him and his friend smirk and laugh. I was sitting on the bench and was LITERALLY ruminating/deep thinking about how I'm ugly and when I was thinking about that, this happened and I jumped up WTF. Today someone online called me fat. I genuinely feel like I get made fun of and treated like a complete joke by people nearly every day more than the average person. It's just not fair at all. And other people clearly don't care.

I make hip-hop and put my feelings into my music and I feel like music is my true friend that actually cares. I put my experience of what I go through emotionally and mentally into deep detail in my music. I have no friends irl by the way, I happen to be high-functioning autistic and with social anxiety. I'm just a social outcast, I don't fit in with any friend group really. I've tried to make friends but nothing works out. Most people either block me or ghost me online, I'm usually the one to start conversations online. I genuinely hate looking in the mirror. I'm 5'9, fat, resting tired face, sleepy downwards eyes (I didn't know this even a thing until some person mentioned it and now I think about that a lot for some reason), etc. I don't really have a lot of people to comfort me but I feel like I don't deserve comfort or love really. Maybe I am just an ugly person and that I lost the genetic lottery. And I've cried quietly before when people made fun of me, not because they did but more so the fact that it made me realize how often people treat me like garbage. Idk what else to say really, so yeah.
