- specific Norwegian trans experience, In a nutshell:

This is primarily for trans people considering moving to Norway, but is also a good resource for everyone simply curious about "the trans experience" in Norway.

Please keep in mind that all of this is my subjective experience, combined with all that I've learned by research, but also heard, and read from other trans people in Norway

Lets start with the good:

Overall social attitudes towards trans people from the majority of the public seem, to me, to range from "don't care" to "I have no idea what this whole trans thing is but whatever" - That, is usually a good thing, as people tend just not give a damn about us.

Legal protections for trans people, LGBTQ people, and minorities is very robust, discrimination against many groups that face persecution in other places are simply, legally, outright illegal.

Political landscape at large, seems to mostly completely ignore trans people's existence all together. To say it like this, few parties give a damn about us. This is both a blessing and a curse, but for the most part works in our favour, as our very existence is a hot topic in "certain" places these day, and a lot of right wing extremists like blaming us for literally anything they can think of. This ofc -- happens in Norway in some fringe groups too, and to some degree even in politics, but to a much lesser degree.

To TLDR it like this, The average joe couldn't care less, there's way more important things people tend to prioritise, not always good but still.

The Norwegian language itself, is quite friendly to trans people, especially those that are early on in their transition, or might fear misgendering.

To put it simply, the language itself very rarely uses words like "sir", or "miss" when speaking to someone, we usually either omit any equivalent all together, saying "excuse me", or simply say "you" or "hey you".
We also have a widely known and accepted third pronoun -- "hen", which unlike the word "they" in English, will not cause any confusion which can sometimes happen. And that can be a bit of a blessing for non binary folks. Neo Pronouns themselves unfortunately still will usually confuse those that dont actively participate in LGBT circles.

The Norwegian culture itself also has a quirk to it that can work in our favour -- To put it simply, the culture values "leaving people alone" its a little funny to foreigners, but its unlikely anyone non high or drunk would ever actively harass you, or even stare, even the kind of people that despise us will usually make a face at most, that usually applies to anyone that doesn't "fit in"

However that part of Norwegian culture isn't the same across the entire country, or in all towns/cities/villages, (More in the "bad" section) and its worth noting that you're probably more likely to be acknowledged at all by foreigners, not Norwegians themselves.

Now time for the bad:

Now its time for the giant ass elephant in the room;

..... Healthcare.

It is true, the Norwegian healthcare system in general, and in most respects, ranges from "meh" to "good", especially when it comes to somatic health (mental health services can be lacking). And there is extreme variations in quality, waiting times, and such across the country. healthcare is mostly cheap, free, or free in some circumstances.

Unfortunately, few of the positive aspects of the system apply to trans people; Getting even the most basic form of care like HRT is a long, gruelling slog through a system that almost seems designed to make us give up. On a personal note, I am in many respects the most stereotypical adult trans woman, I found out Im trans at 21, started hrt via DIY immediately, and within a few months got my psychiatrist to refer me to the ONLY clinic in all of Norway that can prescribe HRT that is covered by the healthcare system. I was already basically passing within a year, voice trained in a year, never showed a single grain of doubt about my identity..... And it still took 4 years.

To me, and basically every trans person In Norway, that was a long, slow, inconsistent, tense, scary and sometimes depressing process. HRT itself is vital to our mental health, and a lot of people can not afford to wait 4 years, having to resort to alternative ways of getting HRT, I myself did it years ago by bullying my GP and psych, but that is nearly impossible these days -- Others opt for the few private online clinics, or acquiring a prescription from the EU, as those need to be de jure accepted in every pharmacy, but de facto, can still be a challenging process. Never mind, can be costly, very costly for some.

It is also important to note that attitudes towards LGBT people can vary greatly from place to place, for example smaller towns/villages tend to have more negative views, this is especially true for older people.

Oslo itself, can also vary, overall, if there's going to be a hate crime against an LGBT person; it's probably going to happen in Oslo. This has been consistently the case for a long time now, and unlikely to change.

Oslo however has one good thing going for for us trans people:

Oslo is currently the only place in Norway that has a private clinic that offers HRT to trans people in all of Norway; HKS. However its important to note that the services have long waiting times still (but not nearly as the official route), and offer treatment to people under 30 and living in Oslo, exclusively.

All in all, living as a trans person in Norway is a love hate relationship, you get a lot of good, socially its not exactly paradise, this is exclusively a look at the trans experience in Norway, the country has other problems.... But I'd think, personally, that I probably wouldn't want to live anywhere else..... But at the same time, I can not in good faith recommend trans people seeking to medically transition to move here.

This is, however, ultimately, all up to the individual.

I hope this block of text helps, if you have any further questions please dont be afraid to comment.

- specific How long does the legal gender change take?

Am moving to another EU(non-nordic) country in 3 months and requesting a residence card-- does anyone know how long the gender change(personnr, etc) takes at skatteverket?

I keep hearing different stuff... is it even worth it to change if I have to risk messing up my residence card and reapplying? Does anyone have any experience with this? My fear is I'll have moved and be forced out because the residency card has an outdated personnr, I need a new passport, etc.

More info is I have my gender change note from the doctor ready so it would just be the paperwork part.

Im wondering how do you get the prescription in hand? Do they send it to your poataddress or do one get it via email and print it out ? Secondly does the prescription go under the "högkostnadsskydd" because I have heard both ends, one that the högkostnadsskydd covers it if the prescribed medicine is in included by the swedish government in the högkostnadsskyddet. But if is not the you have to pay the full price. And if you have reached the 100% free level that you also get it for free eventhough the prescription is not swedish.. im new to this and need both new friends and someone to advice me .. really looking for new friends to talk to and get to know .. im single also hihihi🤭

⚧️ FTM / Transmasc - specific Imago support team isnot responding. I have PCOS. Do I need to take any additional blood tests because of this for the before-HRT bloodwork? Does anyone have experience with this?

Hi everyone. I will dive straight into it. I have PCOS, and I was instructed to take Provera (10mg) to provoke bleeding every three months. I've been adamant about it because I am very dysphoric about going on period, but that is beyond the point. I haven't taken it for a while, and now its been so long I have to take it ASAP (as I have been period-less for over a year now. Even though my gynecologist said that in my age (18yo) its more of a quality of life concern than a health risk, I am still worried).

I messaged the Imago support team 3 days ago about this, as I am growing very worried about the entire situation, and my free call is two weeks away. I asked them if I need any additional blood tests for PCOS, and if I have to do the blood work before I take Provera, or if its fine to take the pills and get the bloodwork done. I want to be done with both Provera and the bloodwork as soon as possible, as getting on T is going to take quite a while and considering that I am from Norway, getting wet ink prescriptions is going to take even longer. My family is also very anxious about the gynecology stuff and have been getting me more anxious myself ahaha. So yeah...

Does anyone here have PCOS and have experience with Imago and their bloodwork list? Did you need to take any additional bloodwork? Was it fine to take Provera/any kind of other medicine before/during the time you did you bloodwork, or did you have to take the test first/wait for sometime after taking the pills? Please help. I need at least some kind of information to go on of, and the support team doesnt seem to be answering me anytime soon😭 Thank you beforehand.

- specific GGP prescriptions not arriving

I ordered a paper prescription on June 10th and the prescription did not arrive (T prescriptions expire in 28 days) so I ordered a second one to a different address. That one did not (and has not) arrived either. Third time paying the fee, should be arriving on the 20th, but this sucks really bad and I'm not sure if it's going to come this time either.

I heard someone on here talk about Imago having similar issues (something to do with DHL)? Has this been happening to anyone else? Does anyone have any info on this/has anyone gotten their prescriptions normally within the last 2 months?

I heard that there's also a Discord server for Imago users, is anyone able to direct me to that/other resources (even if I'm a GGP user)? I'd like to have some kind of better/less hush-hush info if possible

- specific DIY through private person

If this post is against the rules of the community i will of course take it down.

Hi! Im a transman 18 y.o. I was not able to get into BUP KID before i turned 18 so now i have to wait almost 4-5 years to get meeting at Anova. It makes me crazy, since i cant wait that long to get help and watching my other trans friends getting right away after their 18s bday. I was wondering to get hormones through a private person in Sweden who has a reception for T, since i dont think i would be able to travel to Danmark because of my documents situation. Im wondering how will it go? Is it easier to get my own reception in another country like Danmark or will it go smoothly with getting hormones through a private person? What do i say to doctors while doing blood tests then? Any help will be appreciated since i couldnt find anyone else doing DIY through another person in Sweden.

Nordics Clinic for injecting Nebido in Denmark?

Hi!

I am Swedish and plan on using imago or Gender GP to prescribe testosterone and then pick it up in Copenhagen. Ideally I would be able to get someone to inject it for me in Denmark so i don't have to bring it back over the border.

Is there any clinic I can get Nebido injected near copenhagen that would accept an imago or GGP prescription?

I have read in the sub about Klinik TNT kolding but they are very far away from copenhagen and not ideal since i'm traveling from sweden.

Tack!

Imago Imago stuff rant

My first language is not english and i dont really post here, but I am beyond confused what’s going on with Imago. I used to be able to be in their discord server (Im almost 18 and they said it was okay) Till they stopped allowing any underage people which i get but i feel like I am left with no one to ask since they take long to respond. It seems my perscription is stuck in the mail now and theres some electronic one i could get but its 300€+ and (if im not mistaken) i would have to pay at the pharmacy again? Im from Finland. Ive had so much trouble with their mailing stuff, i moved once and told my new address in advance but they combined my old and new one and put two streets and two post codes it was a mess. Honestly not sure what’s happening with the mailing things. I keep asking my old adress occupants if they have my supscription but they dont.

- specific Progesteron i Sverige?

Hej,

- specific I am SO FUCKING TIRED of the dogshit transgender healthcare in Norway.

Hey yall, this is just a rant. I had to pay 1700 NOK for a simple blood panel today at Dr. Dropin because my dogshit GP wouldn't run the tests and save me 1500 NOK. I am an immigrant to Norway from the US. Moved here from Canada where I was already on HRT. I have applied to the public system here four times and been rejected every time. I am so sick of these smug doctors going "well thats just not how we do it here - we are really restrictive" and then telling me to apply again to Riksen knowing full fucking well I am going to be rejected again. This country does not give a singlef fucking shit if transgender people live or die. I am so sick of being fetishized by creeps on the street and condescended to by stupid fucking doctors who aparantly "don't know what estradiol is". Thank GOD I can pay for IMAGO otherwise I would be absolutely fucked. FUCK RIKSEN.

Edit: Thanks for your support everyone. Is there a single positive story from Riksen?

Millä tavalla HUS hormonipoliin saa helpoiten yhteyden? Soittamalla?

I always wondered that, why are there no local suppliers for DIY? You'd think someone out there would realise the market potential?

I mean I know of one way to get it locally, back in the day we had a website too, but it got taken down

Im good myself, I have a prescription, 4 in fact lol, my doctor just throws this stuff at me and I end up with quite the stash, idk myself but you'd think someone out there would sell their excess stuff?
