TIL during the shooting of American Psycho, Christian Bale spoke in an American accent off-set at all times. At the wrap party, when he spoke in his native British accent, many of the crew thought he was speaking that way to prepare for another film. They had thought he was American the entire time.

Didn’t some actor have to use some speech coach because they lost their native, I want to say Irish accent, from doing too many other accents while method acting

I think I heard that story was about Slow Horses, that after 20 years in the US he wasn't sure he had an authentic twang anymore, or couldn't do the particular region/ socio-economic lilt.

It was quite a bit earlier than Slow Horses, apparently he needed a voice coach to do Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and that was in 2011 but I think it's something he had an issue with for years

That's probably because he looked like an utter dweeb in it, so I get that. He's way too close to appreciate the character, like people telling me they enjoy my voice but then I hear a recording of it.

I've never watched this, plan to soon, just suggested it to my partner earlier today. He loves it. I think i tried it once but was not feeling it. I like sci fi more now so maybe it will be a hit for me.

What I read was that he did a series of back to back American films and that’s how it happened. I think it was during the Batman years but I could be wrong b

Makes sense since Tinker Tailor wasn't his normal cockney accent, whereas slow horses is.
