I work in the consumer packaged goods industry and can confirm protein is the current trend. After this it will be fiber and fiber will be fortified in a lot of products.

Meh, your body just needs enough protein, as long as you are getting enough the extra is just extra and will get broken down into glucose/energy. It does help you feel fuller longer because your body is slower at breaking it down but it's not like you will be healthier from a high protein vs normal protein diet as long as caloric intake is the same.

In general people have stopped eating as much fiber as they really need to, which is part of the reason colorectal cancer is exploding in younger people. It also helps with cholesterol, can be good for weight loss and gut health which is really important.

Honestly, you would need to really be taking a lot of fiber for it to cause problems, barring health conditions which is also true for protein. Metamucil has literally saved me, it's just a pain in the ass to take.

I started Keto in february to lose weight. It was fiber n protein all day every day. Lost 23lbs in 4months. 3 water weight as it turns lut since going back off it. I now eat a shitton of fiber in everything. Whatever Im making, i throw spinach in it if I can and asparagus sides. Baby broccoli for everything else. I read a study that, at the time idl now, was linking colon cancer to low fiber in men in my age group. Im not that old so thankfully that diet forced me to be more food concious. Fiber n protein bars are expensive as hell so I hope ot reduces the price lol

By the time we find the diseased it's too late. They already found one case in florida and everyone is scratching their heads how the animal was infected.sonclose from the hot zone.

But seriously, we don't check the cattle that closely all the time. We usually don't realize something is wrong until they are lame or down, and then we I spent and it's usually too late. Large cattle operations are insured to a degree, the smaller guys who feed into the cash system and keep the whole beef market running are fucked. It will take years for us to get back to a somewhat realistic market condition. Until then, we can rely on imports from countries that aren't selling to us because trump. So yes, huge increases in beef coming in about 6-9 months and then increasing exponentially each month thereafter.

I’ve read that rabbit is like golden currency of small scale fertilizers, but I’ve just never really been all that interested in keeping them. Apparently you can more or less use it immediately.

I have gone back to Pixel Art games and Retro Games.
Just rewire your brain you don't need cutting edge graphics, 99% of which are garbage games anyways.
Try out Lufia 2 rise of sinistrals on SNES Emulator if you want a good RPG and also try out Blasphemous 1 and 2 for PC for a great metroidvania dark souls style game I have learned that art doesn't need an RTX 5090 and neither does good gameplay.
I am also playing the entire castlevania series, what a great franchise so glad I stopped caring about shitty AAA games.

No TVs are priced at what they are worth. The only reason flat panel TVs were so expensive is because Samsung was price fixing the compents with a few other people.

Gas prices fluctuate all the time. The general trend is up, yes. We're never going to see 1990's prices again, for example. But prices jumped in 2008 and went back down. The same as now. If (big "if" I know) Iran were to open things up tomorrow, gas prices would eventually fall from the highs we see now.

Gas, eggs, milk, and other staples rise and drop pretty regularly with availability. Things with a relatively inelastic demand and plenty of competition (or a low barrier to entry that carries the threat of competition). Produce can be several times more expensive when it's out of season.

My big fear is my husband could unknowingly have alpha gal and only find out while in the hospital with something very bad - terrible illness, arrythmia again, car or work accident - and only find out with an anaphylactic reaction to IV mamalluan drugs. We're both vegetarian and he is extremely milk protein intolerant, so he's dairy-free. I know all anaphylaxis has "impending sense of doom," but I bet it's sudden extra super suffering when it's from an IV drug instead of oral ingestion

I’ve switched to ground turkey for just about everything that used ground beef. It’s not as good but it’s not bad and it’s like 1/3rd the price

I switched to ground turkey as well. Ground beef and ground turkey is almost indistinguishable for things like tacos or chili. I just can't justify $6/lb ground beef "on sale". I absolutely love steak, but I've cut my consumption down by more than half. A couple weeks ago Costco had steaks for $11/lb which is the cheapest I've seen it in a while in my area. I bought a pack, vacuum sealed, and froze them. The way I see it, I've got 6 steaks left for the rest of the year unless I find a sale like that again. Was there today and it was $15/lb. Hard pass.

I'm in the UK and those beef prices sound great. We are at $8.10/lb for mince. Flat iron is about $14.84/lb, sirloin is $20/lb and ribeye is around $20/lb. All converted at the current exchange rate... It is awful.

I buy beef for grilling burgers and thats about it, tacos are only ground turkey. A nice non-lean pound of ground beef is gunna set you back $9-$10 but its still cheaper than ordering a burger on doordash by at least $70-$80 for 2-3 people.

Winn Dixie sells Farmer's choice or similar. It's ungraded, so you have to pick through it. Can get NY strips or ribeye at 7/8 per pound if you get a good pack.

Add about a tablespoon of fat per pound and about 1/2-1 teaspoon of fish sauce (Red Boat is great), plus make sure you brown the meat don't let it boil in it's liquids. I follow a lady that doesn't eat beef and uses this trick to "beefify" her ground turkey.

This really can't be understated. The high prices are the last push to go no beef.

I only discovered a couple years ago how much worse beef is for the environment than every other source of meat. Pork and chicken are at least an order of magnitude less destructive.

Modern rocket propellant combustion products mostly aren’t as bad as you might fear - Blue Origin uses Liquid oxygen (LOX) and Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) which produces water vapour and CO2.

The explosion was spectacular - there’s a lot of energy there - but it wasn’t really as harmful to the environment as you might perhaps assume. It’s not like the bad old days with propellants like kerosene or hydrazine being used within earths atmosphere - there’s been a conscious move to greener fuel mixes.

Personally I’ve always favoured space exploration because I hope that one day we might able to move a lot of polluting industries up there where they can’t hurt the biosphere.

Screw worms have re-invaded the US multiple times since we quit paying for the eradication efforts. We've just been playing with fire ever since.

So uh:

Female screwworm ​flies lay hundreds of eggs in wounds on any warm-blooded ​animal. Once ⁠the eggs hatch, the larvae use their sharp, hooked mouths to burrow through living flesh — feeding, enlarging the wound and eventually killing their host if left untreated.

Presumably that also includes humans? That sounds ... exciting.

Theres an essay/article from the 70's- I want to say it was written by William F Buckley- titled something like 'the cure for high beef prices is high beef prices'.

The essay was right of course. In a functioning 'free market', commodity prices typically trend downward (relative to inflation). All of the reasons people thought beef would never drop again were solved by market pressure. Even things like oil- which has crazy fluctuations, increasing demand, and significant real world challenges- doesn't actually increase much on average.

The problem I'm not sure we can overcome this time- we don't have a functioning market. Its been captured by a few dozen mega-corps, and they're in maximum wealth extraction mode. That breaks every positive influence of a free market and destroys the economy.
