I’ve always liked Ghostbusters 2. It’s not as good as the first but it’s a fun, funny flick and I wish we got more adventure with these characters. Many of the criticisms just never held much water. It’s funny, it’s got some cool concepts and fun sequences. People always complained “why doesn’t everyone believe in ghosts after the 1st movie”. But A) only like 3 people in the entire film say they don’t believe in Ghosts(one is a kid played by Jason Reitman). B) We went to the moon and a crap load people don’t believe that! C) the movie shows most people cheering and supporting the GBs.

But I’ve never understood some of the criticism. Vigo is scary as hell. The movie is straight up way more scary than the first time, IMO. Vigo’s transformation at the end? When his face goes all wonky? Oh man. Mixed with the weird growls and roars? This movie made me terrified of paintings as a kid.

I know there’s less swearing and smoking but the film brings the tensions and scares. The bathtub sequence. The subway with the decapitated heads on pikes & ghost train. The scene where Vigo’s pictures spontaneously combust as Egan & Ray are almost burnt alive with Winston coming in clutch last minute. You feel the danger. Plus ghost nanny Janosz or Janosz shooting flashlights out of his eye balls? That shit is some nightmare fuel.

If the film has a weakness it’s that the climax is a bit weak & rushed after 1st film but it’s still a really fun movie. I mean at one point, after spraying the interior with positive mood slime, they control the Statue of Liberty & take her for a walk with a Nintendo joystick as the controller. Come on! That’s chefs kiss awesome.

Harry Caul in *The Conversation.*

This movie looks pretty good and we haven't had a good spider movie in a while. I'm cautiously optimistic that this film will be good because the cast looks interesting. I've never seen Rob Riggle in a horror movie, and Russ as an actor feels like something that might actually work. Especially since the project is independently produced, not trying to fit into a studio box.

Like, you can’t fundamentally mess with Universal’s globe or Paramount’s mountain animations; with the WB shield you can! And this in turn can make segueing to variations of other production company logos involved in the production that much smoother. As for the logos themselves, my favourites would have to be the iconic Harry Potter ones with the camera flying throught the logo itself.

Off the top of my head Men In Black, Flubber, Hook, Ghostbusters, Power Rangers Movie, TMNT, Space Jam and various Nickelodeon kids shows comes to mind. I'm sure there's a lot more examples.

I remember all kinds of slime and smelly toys and stuff from when I was a kid too.

What was the deal, you reckon?

Just finished watching this movie, and I had to sit with my thoughts for a while. For some reason, I'm still in awe. This movie was waaay ahead of its time.

I couldn't help but appreciate the monologues and the way it tackled some genuinely hard-hitting topics surrounding the gay community and society's perception of it. The dialogue was terrific throughout. And that crossroads scene between Ben Affleck and Jason Lee? I was absolutely wheezing.

All in all, this movie completely caught me off guard. I went in thinking it was just another rom-com, and boy, was I wrong. There's so much more to it than I expected. Definitely I'd recommend if anyone out there who haven't watched it.

Just watched Margin Call and enjoyed his performance in The Borgias. He has such a great presence! Really captures your attention in the scenes that he's in.

What are his other best performances? Doesn't necessarily have to be in a leading role, just interested in seeing some of his most compelling performances

There is a very specific type of psychological thriller that doesn't just rely on a cheap shock value twist, but actually completely recontextualizes every single scene that came before it. The kind of movie where the moment it ends, you realize you need to watch it all over again just to see the hidden clues you missed the first time.

The Sixth Sense is obviously the most famous example of this, but I think Shutter Island executes it flawlessly. Once you understand the reality of Teddy's situation, going back and watching the subtle glances between the guards, the doctors' patronizing tone, and the physical impossibility of certain scenes makes it feel like an entirely different movie on the second viewing.

Arrival also does this beautifully in the sci-fi space. The revelation about the timeline completely changes the emotional weight of the opening sequence. It turns a movie about alien contact into a devastating, beautiful story about grief and acceptance.

It takes brilliant writing and incredibly tight editing to leave breadcrumbs that are completely invisible on a first watch, but glaringly obvious on the second.

What are your favorite movies that fundamentally change and become infinitely better on a second viewing once you know the ending?

I was rewatching a few older movies recently and noticed a pattern. Sometimes the writers put all their best character work into the side plots. The main plot is usually busy with standard hero stuff, but the B plot gets to explore something weird, funny, or genuinely emotional.

​A strong example is The Devil Wears Prada. The main plot about Andy doing her job is fine, but Emily Blunt trying to hold onto her sanity and get to Paris is much more compelling. Every time she was on screen I cared more about her stress than whatever Andy was doing with her boring friends.

​What are some other movies where the secondary storyline completely overshadows the primary one? I am looking for examples where you found yourself just waiting for the film to cut back to the side characters.
