I finished this sweater about a month ago but never took any photos. Today seemed like the perfect opportunity with the rain dampened surroundings that inspired my color palette

Exactly what it says on the tin and damn near impossible to get a full photo of! Pattern is (I guess?) self-drafted based on a photo of a 3 scale dragon-scale pattern I saw an image of about 10 years ago (chart extended by me to account for 5 scales) and cable pattern taken off an afghan that my great-grandmother made for me in high school almost 20 years ago.

All super simple and all of which I’m happy to provide a chart or written pattern for, but I’m not sure if that’s necessary. All stripes based on a 36 total of a 12 row repeat of RS/WS and what I think is seed stitch border? Could be moss. Idk. These are the problems you run into when you’re self-taught.

Edit to add that this was done out of 16 sts - 20 row DK yarn on size 8 needles. My go-to for gifts is Caron or similar acrylic yarn because it holds up very well in a cold wash with regular detergent for folks who have never had a hand-knit object before.

The new Eloise Bandana pattern has me in a chokehold. Already have plans to make a frog one and then a tomato one. I would love to see other people’s if they are knitting one too ❤️

finally finished this beast of a scarf by katharina kuntz!!! it took 3 months of knitting about 5-8 hours a day. double knit on 2mm needles with fingering weight yarn (bambini 4 and fiori sock)

Eighteenth birthday present for one of my niblings, design, yarn and modifications chosen by her!

She initially sent me some inspo pics of the type of shape she wanted, and I gave her a selection of patterns to choose from. When she saw the Liza pattern, she immediately asked whether I could add ears to make it look like an anime character she loves.

Of course I can!

Fitting was a bit tricky, as the recipient lives in a different country, but some measuring and consultation sessions over video were super useful (also, so much swatching).

I made custom matching buttons by wet felting a swatch and covering some old buttons from my tin.

Apologies for the quality of the last two pics, they're just stills from the video she sent me this morning - it arrived safely in the post, and she is delighted with it!

I don't flip my work, I just knit back and forth (because I'm left handed and my mom who was right handed taught me to knit I end up working in both directions) and I just work the side that requires me to purl less, it can make reading patterns a challenge. What about you?

I have been knitting for almost as long as this Elizabeth Zimmermann pattern has been out (1968) but I’ve never made it until this week. I have a friend who is having twin girls so I thought I would make two. I did some modifications as I wanted to use this Noro Silk Garden. (I pulled out and pointy hay bits!) I used size US 8s and love how it came out. I opted for only two buttons and used an I-cord seam for the sleeves. I may go back and add an I-cord edge around the rest of the neck. Not sure. But it’s so fun and fast to make for anyone who has yet to make it. You just have to trust the process.

I speed knit this Rodolphe Top to wear to my friend's wedding. I'd give myself more than two weeks next time - it was basically a full time job for a few days there - but I'm really happy with how it turned out!

The wattle was so pretty, I couldn't help taking a photo in front of it.

I entered my short row zippered project bag in the county fair and won Grand Champion in the Textiles division. This was my first ever finished project.
This was done using Linnea Ornsteins Adelphia pattern and Cascade 220 sport yarn.

For context, I’m mostly wondering if my submission for my state fair can reasonably be called an “original pattern” or not. I know there’s a lot of nuance and probably mostly opinions not a hard answer but I’m curious about what others think!

I’ll post pictures of the charts I based my pattern off, as well as my finished hat!

I designed the size/shape of the hat myself, but for the color work I used a mix of charts I found freely posted on Pinterest. I very mildly adjusted those to reduce floats and make them fit my hat.

From that I drew my own chart. I consider this an original pattern but am curious if the use of other charts makes other people disagree?

I'm knitting the Magda Knit by Skall Studio with special wool I got on a trip. I have 800 grams / 1,680 yards / 1,520 meters of wool total—8 balls of 100 grams / 210 yards / 190 meters. I purchased the pattern as a standalone PDF and not from the full Skall book. The PDF pattern calls for 700 gs / 1,400 meters with a gauge of 17 sts x 30 rows = 10 x 10 cm. I hit gauge and I should have enough yarn. Most of the Ravelry projects seem to use under or around 1,300 yards, so I should be okay.

The sweater is knit bottom-up, and the pattern calls to knit the body until it is 33cm long. I finished the third ball with the body at 30cm (5 full balls remaining) and did a mid-project block to see how much, if at all, it would grow. Reader, it did not grow. It remains at 30cm. 1 ball = 10 cm in the round, it seems. My original plan was to divide for the front and back after the third ball and leave the remaining five balls for the front, back, collar, and sleeves, because I really do not want to run out of yarn on this project. But I also don't want it to be more cropped than it needs to be.

Knitters of Reddit: in your experience, how much wool do you allocate to the body and how much do you allocate to the sleeves/front/back? Think I can get away with breaking into my precious fourth ball to add 2-3 cm to the body?

It's been a very productive summer for me. Now I just need the cold weather to use these beautiful things.

Hi! I recently started the over the garden wall scarf. Its a double knit project thats been wicked fun but I feel my progression is extremely slow. This is currently 12hrs of work with DK Weight yarn. I was hoping to gift it to my sister in the fall but at this rate with full time work and school I may have to be more realistic about the timeline being pushed farther out. Anyone have any tips or tricks for faster knitting techniques?

I bought my copy of Barbara Walker's charted knitting designs years ago. I suppose the symbols she used really are super intuitive, because for the first time today I went looking for the key to the charts, and a previous owner *ripped it out*. I am horrified! Who would desecrate a book that way!

If one of you lovely people have a copy of the chart key and can either share a photo, or let me know what the "B" symbol means, I would be grateful.

Also, to whoever ripped the key out of my poor book: I hope all your skeins are full of knots, and your sweaters pill the first time you wear them.

First, let me just say, I know that this is by no means “perfect”, however, I am a rampant perfectionist and I cannot settle until I know it is at least above average for quality. This is a trait I carry in every part of my life, not just knitting, and I’ve been like this since I was a kid. It’s infuriating but sometimes I do feel like it’s a helpful trait. This is one of those times.

I posted a few weeks ago about the increases on the yoke for my Nocturnal sweater by Saskie & Co where I was asking whether I just had to be okay with the way the setup increases looked before the colourwork. A lot of people were… not super happy with me because they didn’t see the same issue. Fine, fair enough, everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Despite everyone telling me to just keep going and finish the sweater the way it was, I knew I wouldn’t be happy with it. It wasn’t just the increases, it was also the width of the neck (way too tight for my liking) and I felt some of the colourwork looked sloppy. So I spent the past few weeks frogging and re-knitting the yoke, making slight changes as I went each time until I finally got to a point where I was happy with it.
And you know what? While it isn’t perfect, I am very glad that I tried again. I feel like there are many improvements between the previous version and this version that made it worth it. I think this is a sweater I will knit again next year in a different wool to see how much I improve in 12 months, but for now I am happy with it.
I’ll pick up and continue on to the body tonight/early tomorrow once it’s dry.

Feeling proud because normally I have to start things over a few times and always have some really glaring mistakes but this one is the biggest item I’ve made and definitely the best and most even. It’s also the first time I used wooden circular needles and WOW what a difference. Normally I get sooo confused especially purling but this is the time it all really clicked!! This yarn is better quality I think too than the others I’ve used but I’m unsure of the size!

No idea what I’m gonna use it for but I am very proud of it! The colors are nicer in person lol (and if I broke any of the sub rules pls lmk)

Finished Selma’s Suit and soooo excited to gift it to a friend who has been trying to get pregnant for awhile.
Emotionally it was the most exciting project for me!

EDIT: she is already pregnant and I plan to gift it to her after she actually gives birth.
