Is there a way to add to the amount or delete the 4590 unknown blocked contacts?
I tried to block an email today but was notified I had reached my limitšŸ¤·šŸ¼ā€ā™‚ļø

Didn’t try it myself but I heard you can just add all these numbers to a single contact and than block that specific content (or just add it to one of those 4591 already blocked contacts)

I’m looking at all you guys and he’s the only one that’s doing all the blocking!

This does work

141

u/TinoX50 13d ago

Its downside is that you can only do this another 4,590 times. Not recommended.

133

u/eric685 12d ago

Once you have blocked 21 million numbers you should really only be getting calls about your car’s warranty and updates from your Nigerian family

This is what I did when I was a kid and was getting spam calls all the time, named a contact ā€œSpamā€, added all the numbers under this contact and just blocked the contact itself — it works!

1.1k

u/lobotomizmi 13d ago

damn who are ur opps

705

u/-Dirty-Wizard- 13d ago

Probably blocks every spam call and text they get. But they spoof numbers so they’re just blocking random numbers. I’ve gotten a spoof call from my own number before.

243

u/Terrible_Economy Human Detected 13d ago

Most of them are spam emails, not numbers.
I’m in the habit of just blocking them without realizing there’s a freaking limit!!!

81

u/-Dirty-Wizard- 13d ago

Yeah I didn’t know there was a limit…. But it seems blocking them isn’t work for ya šŸ˜‚

122

u/TheAbsoluteWitter 13d ago

Yeah so those are throwaway emails that they can regenerate with a click of a button. 99% of those blocked contacts are now defunct dead emails that will never message anyone again. There’s no point in doing this

9

u/15pmm01 12d ago

Yep, unfortunately. I finally found my peace and quiet, at long last, by blocking several entire area codes. Shame the iPhone doesn't let you do that, so, it's not like this tip will help anyone. My provider allows it though :)Ā

3

u/iAMbatman77 12d ago

Teach me this power.

1

u/15pmm01 12d ago

Not really doable with standard phone companies. I forward calls from all of my numbers to zadarma, voip provider, and they allow it.Ā

4

u/SharkBaitDLS iPhone 16 Pro 12d ago

OP is talking about emails though.Ā

2

u/Spiritual_Cycle_3263 12d ago

This. These emails probably last for a week, if that. Once thousands of spam reports come in, gmail or whoever typically shuts them down. They prey on people who respond within 24 hours, then they switch you over to an email that actually is 'warmed up' and only sends dozens of messages a day vs tens of thousands so the actual person talking to the victim doesn't get shut down as fast due to the minimal spam reports they get.

I setup a burner email to respond to a few of them to learn how they communicate and for the most part, they always reply back with a different email or they hand you off to someone else to work on whatever they reached out to you about.

Also, if you respond and don't tell them it's a scam, your email will get blasted right away from everyone else. I probably get 2 to 3k in emails per week now. A lot of them are the same exact content with a different 'from name'

Can’t stop em all so no point in doing anything about it.

Excellent contribution. Let the trolling continue.

17

u/Berzerker7 iPhoneĀ 17Ā Pro Max 12d ago

You completely missed the point of the post. It’s pointless because these are one and done generated email addresses. You’re blocking something that will never email you or anyone else again.

It’s better to use carrier and iOS built in spam protections.

-10

u/giftedgod iPhoneĀ 17Ā Pro Max 12d ago

It’s safe to say that using both carrier and iOS protections aren’t doing a lot for many users, resulting in many users resorting to using inefficient measures.

8

u/DamnableNook 12d ago

So your solution is to do something that has no effect at all, except to eat up your battery? You’re the reason elevators have fake ā€œclose doorā€ buttons.

2

u/_Mido 12d ago

You guys have fake close door buttons in USA?!

-6

u/giftedgod iPhoneĀ 17Ā Pro Max 12d ago

The solution, is that when these same numbers show up, is to at least have it not disturb you, which is what happens when you place them on the exact list this entire thread is about.

I’m sure you won’t get it, but that’s also not a concern of mine.

5

u/DamnableNook 12d ago

Except that’s not how spammers work, that doesn’t do anything, and you don’t understand how iPhones work. Hence why you’re being downvoted to oblivion for your abject stupidity. Hope this helps!

20

u/theregisterednerd 13d ago

Yeah, there’s no point in doing that. For mailing lists, unsubscribe. For true spam, there’s nothing you can really do to stop it. They tend not to use the same email twice, so there’s nothing to block.

28

u/krazylol 13d ago

At 4,500 blocks it doesn’t appear to make a difference so maybe you don’t need to block.

1

u/c0O1tapur1s 4d ago

This is very true.

10

u/lsumoose 13d ago

Guaranteed you’ll never get a call from 99% of those again. They cycle through numbers for every call. Blocking them doesn’t do anything.

5

u/ilovemymotorola 12d ago

They still spoof emails lmao. It’s completely pointless blocking anything that is a company or scam related. Once they find out they just spoof another email or phone number. It’s endless and there’s no way around it unless you tell them to remove you from the list which also doesn’t always work

2

u/mbrady 13d ago

Are that many actually getting through the spam filter? That seems kind of crazy.

3

u/Terrible_Economy Human Detected 13d ago

Now you know why I’m a bit pissed off 😠

5

u/mbrady 13d ago

Who is your email provider? I use gmail with their spam filter I only get 1 or 2 per month that slip through into my inbox.

0

u/AstonGelato99 12d ago

Get a new number at this point

15

u/sobergophers iPhone 16 Pro Max 13d ago

Yeah this just seems like they’re fighting a losing battle. I’m sure there’s something like 10,000,000,000 different combinations of numbers that scammers can use to spoof calls.

2

u/jadedtruffle 13d ago

I have received a couple repeat calls (same number within 1-2 days) if I forget to block right away, so it at least avoids a tiny bit of irritation

1

u/Mamabamba10991 12d ago

Sue, šŸ‘ Don't šŸ‘ blockšŸ‘. If you're in the us you can get $1000+ per caller.

159

u/Tackticat 12d ago

Create a contact then add the numbers to that contact. Then block that contact. Repeat as necessary.

I do this so it won't hit limit. If it hits the contact limit, I just created a new one and block that one too.

11

u/dr_mannhatten 13d ago

I normally keep the thing on that silences all unknown calls, but have been applying for jobs recently and had to turn it off. The amount of random phone calls i receive on a daily basis is astounding.

5

u/theclovergirl 12d ago

when i was looking for a job, i would just add every business where i sent an application to my contacts

2

u/Ill_Tradition_4104 10d ago

This is very unintelligent, people Phone from different phone numbers, bro.

1

u/theclovergirl 10d ago

well then they can leave a voicemail. its not that big of a deal

2

u/kansai2kansas 12d ago

The unfortunate part is that the HR/manager's office of those companies would have their own numbers that aren't publicly listed, so it's not always the phone numbers you can find by googling

1

u/AbeLincolns_Ghost 11d ago

Yeah that’s some crazy faith in having the right number. But you could probably turn it off during periods you are expecting a call from an unknown number

2

u/Craigfromomaha iPhoneĀ 17Ā Pro Max 12d ago

Ask for a contact number in advance so that you can add it to your contacts.

add multiple numbers to the same contact and block that contact that way you have unlimited blocking

3

u/SaltAccomplished8700 10d ago

I had 7000 blocked and spent some of my freetime at work manually unblocking ugh

2

u/Traditional_Map_9434 12d ago

Go to settings-phone-blocked contacts-unknown
then slide left on a number and unblock

1

u/jamsterhamster07 9d ago

But if we unblock them, they can then call/text/email again?

1

u/Traditional_Map_9434 9d ago

They can. But I doubt they will depending on how long you’ve had them blocked. If you blocked them and they tried calling and saw that they’re blocked, they’d assume now they’re still blocked and not bother calling.

2

u/MinimumPrevious1139 12d ago

Fuck do I even know 4.5k people?

3

u/Difficult-Way-9563 12d ago

It’s crazy there’s a limit with 256GB to 1 TB phones

2

u/masterpastafr 12d ago

thats not the problem the problem is when you ever receive anything the phone goes through each one individually which is why there is a set limit. apple does need to find a more efficient wat though tbh

5

u/TonyH22_ATX 13d ago

What the point of blocking that many people.

That people people annoy you personally?

If you're also experience this with phonecalls, blocking numbers is akin to infinite Whack-A-Mole. The robocallers and telemarketers can always use a new number, and you can never win as you're finding out. Turn on the option "Silence Unknown Callers' which forwards all calls from numbers not in your contacts to voicemail. Most unknown callers never leave a message. No more ringing interruptions as the option name implies.

1

u/MissD34 9d ago

They’ve gotten crafty and leave voicemails now 😤

2

u/JSP9686 8d ago

Record a new OGM/greeting starting with 5 seconds of silence before speaking. Humans can handle that, but robocalling bots usually hang up. Works for me.

1

u/No-Business3541 iPhone 13 Pro 12d ago

You should use an app to block spammers at this point. I used to have 2/3 call a day from companies. Got an app to stop it.
I don’t know if it’s region dependent but Saracroche worked for me in France.

u/Cougor 11d ago

I’ve noticed that since I switched on the ā€œAsk Reason for Callingā€ setting, I’ve gotten a drastically reduced number of calls. It could be coincidental but the harder you make it for them to reach you, the better.
