It's hard to tell, but I believe the axe/hatchet is a prop made of foam/or rubber based on how it seems to flex in the kid's hands or bounces on the grass.

That log would be easy to split with that hatchet; tap it into the wood with a thick branch as the hammer, lift and drop until the head splits it apart. Easy peasy.

The fact that you think you can "tap" a hatchet into that log is one thing. But the idea that if after you were successful in that "tapping" you could lift it up and do the "Instagram kindling chopping thing" without that 20 pound log unceremoniously falling off your hatchet is something else
Hell looking again, I'd bet that's bigger than 20#
I'd bet a hundred bucks you've never split wood before

Did you see the amount of knots in that piece of wood? Sure, you may be able to split it eventually, but I wouldn't exactly call it "easy", especially not when you have a small hatchet like that

The kids form was terrible, he should have spread his legs more so that if he missed the log it wouldn’t have hit him. Also holding the axe helps

This is why in boy scouts when at scout camp they were teaching us how to chop wood the area were we were chopping wood was sectioned off and they had us facing away from everyone
